  1. Thanks for weighing in everyone. I’ve got a decent i9/9900 system and maxed out RAM @ 64 Gb. I also run ParkControl, which prevents Windows from parking cores (which I understand it does by default), spreading out the CPU workload across all cores; in my case 8 cores/16 threads. This is what multi-core processing for plugins option does in CbB. ParkControl has always worked well for me, so I’ve stuck with it, and don’t run CbB load balancing .
  2. Always willing to try and boost data throughput performance, in this case USB port speed for my Focusrite 4i4 interface. If it’s plugged into a 5Gbps USB port, is there a marked advantage to installing a PCIe USB card that has a 10 Gbps capability? If it helps to improve audio latency balancing act, seems like an upgrade to consider. Or, is latency unrelated to a faster USB connection?
  3. Strange thing is, it doesn’t seem to be generating any MIDI data, per the Midi monitoring app I have. So it doesn’t seem DAW related. I’ll keep trying and troubleshooting.
  4. Was working fine, but I think I inadvertently deleted its USB driver. So I reinstalled the driver and rebooted. The unit powers on via USB connection. It's listed and checked in Midi Devices and Control Surfaces in Preferences, so CbB "sees" it. It's available as an input on Midi tracks, but there is no MIDI coming from the keyboard; I checked with a Midi Monitor, which shows no activity, while another MIDI control surface does, so I know the monitoring app is working. I also reset the Impulse to factory settings just to be sure I didn't wonk something out on it. I also tried another USB port. No use. Not sure what else to try. Any ideas appreciated. EDIT: What I ended up doing was downloading and installing a firmware update from Novation, and everything is working as normal. Apparently, user error, which necessitated frustrating troubleshooting and hair-pulling-out. The firmware update was a few steps and pretty painless. Back to the music!
  5. You make a good point here about needing some kind of workaround for the non-motorized fader issue on the Korg unit. If you set a track level, move away, then come back and the Korg/DAW fader are out of synch... hmm. Maybe disable the track’s Read function?
  6. I’m getting more into the NI VST world. Still trying to better understand how the Kontakt VSTs, Komplete Kontrol software, Komplete Kontrol keyboard, CbB can best work together. This helps, so thank you. So, it seems as long as one stays in the NI ecosystem i. The “instrument side” (KK keyboard “MIDI-talking” with KK software and KK VSTs) that’s rock solid, and a separate dedicated control surface like the Korg nanoKontrol Studio could handle the DAW control piece. Each would stay in its own mode/lane.
  7. If this is part of the the goal, something like the Korg nanoKontrol Studio may be part of the solution, either in tandem with the keyboard that you can dedicate to other VST/plug-in functions, or on its own. https://www.korg.com/us/products/computergear/nanokontrol_studio/ I’m exploring the world you’re exploring (I’m looking at a NI A series keyboard) and trying to figure out how all this hardware-based tactile control might work. Here’s some great info I got from from @msmcleodhttps://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/profile/162-msmcleod/.
  8. Other than this https://www.amazon.com/ORICO-Powered-Aluminum-SuperSpeed-Splitter/dp/B07XHL5399/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=usb+3.2+hub&qid=1608495379&refinements=p_72%3A2661618011&sr=8-4 A powered, 4-port USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 GBPs) I don’t see any other in that class with more ports. Lots of 3.0 (5Gbps) with 7 and 10 ports.
  9. Thanks for the note. I want to stick with USB 3.0 for the faster transfer speeds.
  10. Thank you for the rundown. Very helpful. Interestingly, the Amazon one is not currently available. Your experience with the Anker model makes me rethink the one that I’m looking at. I wasn’t thinking about this, but the ACASIS has built-in surge protection which seems like a great idea, although I will be plugging it into an uninterruptible power supply. I don’t plan on doing any charging, just running USB devices off of it.
  11. Maxing out my USB Ports so considering a powered USB hub which I understand from reading on their use in audio production is the way to go. Looking at an Anker 10 port 60 watt (7 USB 3). Curious to know what community members are using. Thanks.
  12. I think you need pro to use Remote Desktop to wirelessly project to something like an iPad so you can have it across the room to work with your DAW? I have Home and trying to access Remote Desktop in settings says it’s a Pro feature.
  13. Just ordered my Korg NanoKontrol Studio to get my feet wet with using it. I'll definitely be referring back to this super helpful information, and I'll check out your Mapper utility. Thanks so much! My if/then thinking is in for a workout!
  14. Thank you so much for the great info. Lots to digest here as I’m relatively new to the world of MIDI, where there’s lots to learn. So, the most direct route to controlling both DAW functions AND plug-in/synth parameters is to have a separate control surface specifically dedicated to each? Assuming I get things working, and am able to assign knobs and such on the Control surface to plug-in/synth parameters (say, to Waves Abbey Road Saturator or a Kontakt instrument) will the controller remember that when I use those again, or do you have to “MIDI relearn” parameters every time? do the controllers remember MIDI control assignments per plug-in/synth? Thanks again!
  15. Santa asked me what I'd like for Christmas, and I have my eye on the Korg nanoKontrol Studio control surface. Bluetooth compatible; one less friggin' wire! https://www.korg.com/us/products/computergear/nanokontrol_studio/ I think it fits Santa's budget. Any musical elves out there have any experience using this with CbB? Thanks, and Happy Holidays all! EDIT: Looking for something that I can use to control the mixer functions and Virtual instruments via MIDI Learn to assign knobs/sliders.
  16. Black Friday sale for next few days fo $29.99 USD
  17. Thanks, Steve. Kinda what I was afraid of! 😆 yes, would definitely prioritize which song-grouped articulations I spend time mapping. In the case of all the Native Instruments guitars, the song-grouped strumming patterns ARE the keyswitch artics.
  18. I'm using Native Instruments' Strummed Acoustic. Like other NI virtual guitar instruments, Strummed Acoustic features a bundle of articulations organized in what they call songs. Campfire, Country, Folk, etc. Each has a series of articulation strumming patterns designed to work well together. However, and this seems like a big however where time-saving articulation maps are concerned... The articulation key switches change depending on what song you have loaded. For instance, if you load Campfire, C2 has a pattern for that song. But if you switch songs to, say, Country, all the articulation strum patterns associated with the key switches change. Bottom line is: there is not a static set of articulations for the instrument. Given that, would I need to create ArtMaps for each and every song-set of articulation patterns? One for Campfire, one for Country, etc? Am I thinking about this right? Thanks.
  19. Try this: insert an audio track. If the Ketron is the virtual instrument the MIDI is triggering, you should be able to select the Ketron output as the input in the audio track you just inserted.
  20. Works great. Same process as EZ Drums.
