Well, the review states that their ToneSnap modeling features uses cloud servers to do the processing. How long can these servers be available now that the software us free?

I haven't used it, but I interpret that as the capture tech is done in the cloud instead of locally.  Something like TONEX capturing is a barrier due to the computing specs it needs to do advanced captures, but the playback after capture is rather low.

Letting cloud servers do the number crunching in the short term sounds like a plus.

I had been going through this procedure already, when Thermionic was discontinued. Shaun added legacy products to my account. No drama, indeed. Yet, it's quite outdated, not being developed and, despite claims that the AmpCraft replaces Thermionic, it doesn't. Thermionic suite had dozens of amp models, not one. Also, there is no upgrade path from one product to another. The "drama", if you wish to call it that way, is not about regaining access to something very old and hardly relevant. IME, buying Kazrog software often leads to a dead end, when a purchased product becomes obsolete, abandoned and hidden from customer's account.

At this point I even consider new amp sims outdated upon release given TONEX is on the market (and has hit $40 or less price points).

I think I already have such license for the Thermionik suite. Unfortunately, it's no longer available for download in my account. Another perpetual license for potentially abandon-ware? Thank you, but no!

Not sure about that product, but the ones I do have require no additional authorization so even if they go belly up then there is a decent chance they have a number of years of viablelaty on Windows.

All that said, the real irony from BF was Rebelle 7 Pro getting pre-released for $30 to anyone. It is still $30 off ($119), but that being $30 was an outright steal. It has already had 7 updates in 6 weeks, and the only feature in lacks over Painter is the cloning features for things I typically do. Some of the new features in Rebelle 7 Pro make Painter pale by comparison (plus the graphics engine is much smoother, even with the "nanopixel" setting enabled).

I got both during the last sale.  The cloning and some of the auto brushing features made me grab Painter too otherwise Rebelle would have been fine and even preferable for me.  It certainly has a more generous authentication system that I appreciate.

I hadn't got around to using the Amek Console 200 yet and wasn't aware of its cpu hit. I placed one instance of this on a track in S1 in order to compare it to the 9099. Boy was I surprised to see in the activity monitor that the 200 came in at 14% while the 9099 was only at 2%. I guess I won't be adding the 200 to my plugin to keep list after all. I wonder if it's set to a high internal oversampling rate.

Not sure but the standalone equipment it uses under the hood is also high consumption.  I'm sure they just reused code and with more functions in one plugin it adds up.

Too bad as it seems nice.

I've been wanting this too, any chance $25 vouchers are generic for everyone like they used to be? Can't figure out why I don't get them anymore. Re-signed up to newsletter too but still nothing

No more generic and even the $25 is based on recent purchase history.

    The glory days are gone.

Not that I need or want one but..Last month was my last voucher and I spent a stupid amount in 2022...don't remember how much in 2023 but a lot less than before.  I have some forever 29 that I've been waiting for something amazing to use but nothing has drawn me in.  The new Amek Console would have done it if it wasn't a resource hog...unlike the Amek 9099

True Iron, True Dynamics, True 252, Synth Warmer, KClip 3 all updated, no issues.

Windows 10 Pro, way out of date
Studio One Pro 6, up to date

Although it's not my regular, I use it for things like this only, REAPER 7.0.2, I doubt up to date, but no issues either.

Did you test on Cakewalk Bandlab by any chance?

(seemed to work in Reaper but not Bandlab for me)

I checked and counted around 60 free Labs libraries. Maybe it’s enough free stuff to showcase Spitfire. How many more do they really need to attract paying customers?

This.  While I'd like to keep seeing more, the reality is there is a lot there as long as they don't kill off the platform.  It remains an impressive free collection that could be a gateway to the brand.

  9. Big fan of the fact it actually does work as a plugin in affinity photo.

As for the main raw program they sell, it is frustrating that the version that comes with the plugin option costs dramatically more than the version with all those tools and more in a standalone form.  Great way to get some of that functionality for free here.

I get the same price if I am logged in or out for Mixbox which is $99.

    That is it.

It used to be something like $299 retail if I remember correctly.

I own it other than the Sunset sound and tape module but my price is the same $99 (and I have the vast majority of IKM products also)

I mostly agree, although I purchase certain things knowing I'm not going to use them, like the Nembrini stuff, Kuassa stuff, Audiority stuff, Audio Assault stuff etc, just to keep the collections complete and to soothe my OCD, as well as support those guys who I used pre TONEX, this Laney one is the same, foreknowledge that it would receive no or very little use, but mainly because I'm a Laney fan.

Also TONEX user, practically exclusively, and it would take something very special, exceedingly good to change that.

Yeah, I started out the same when TONEX came out, but as time has passed on, as much as I appreciate these other developers - I find it doesn't make sense for me to buy products I simply will not use.  Funds are limited and I've shifted that spending to those buying and capturing high end amps.  There is no reason why these other makers couldn't do the same and add packs to their lineup, they choose not to.   There are plenty of packs out there I want but don't have yet and frankly take some of this approach now with the tonex pack creators buying some packs when cheap enough even though I know they will get less use than other packs.

$50 is a lot of money for something I won't use.  Price needs to be far less than that to simply "support" the developer.

Slightly confused by the various feedback.
So what's the bottom line on this amp sim?
Is it, that if you have ToneX not to bother adding it to your collection?

<sigh> Yeah I could demo it & I will try to do that this weekend, but still value the opinion of the other guitar geeks who haunt this forum.

ToneX user here (with quite a few after market packs)

These $50 plugins are an easy pass.  I'd find far more value putting that money towards more packs.

Also when I'm looking for Laney tones, I'm thinking more along the lines of Tony Iommi,  Billy Corgan, or even the Lionheart (vintage tone and dynamics instead of a modern voice like the Ironheart)

My interest is more being a Laney fan, I had no thoughts that it would be of any match with TONEX.  I can play with the Laney for a good period of time, then switch over to something/anything in TONEX and to me it's immediately apparent, the sound the feel. I've been waiting, looking, waiting, looking for some good Laney packs to be released from a 3rd party vendor since the release of TONEX, I hope I find some before I pass this mortal coil.

Different Laney model but these Lionheart captures from FunkyBot (for free) are on par with other paid packs of different amps that are out there, and formatted in a similar way giving a good range of the amp.

He's usually on top of things, and in my opinion has capture packs second only to Amalgum Captures. IMO of course.

Clearly he had early access to the release.

He is doing good stuff though I also think it is odd having content creators getting all this early access as though IKM is passing off the job of updating customers.

I guess they ran into the same concerns that we did. But just to be clear, we don't charge a lot "more" ---- we charge the difference between what people actual paid. For example, if someone bought GP4.5 from PA at full price, then there is NO charge to get the latest version directly from Deskew even though it was a significant upgrade. If they paid $99 for it at PA, then they get a $99 discount for the cross-grade, etc.

It's not that we charge a lot more, it's that they were charging too little!   We are very appreciative that so many PA users did recognize the value inherent in GP and moved over.

I'm sure you have plenty of feedback that $169 is a tough pill to swallow for many of us that just fiddle around with opening some VSTs with low latency outside a DAW

I'm glad I got v3 and v4 at a heavy discount, but personally wouldn't pay any more for it due to the value I personally get out of the product.

Thankfully TONEX now has a pedal form (in addition to the ITB) and for me this dramatically decreases the need for a real time VST loader.

  16. Price isn't that surprising given the market.  Pretty standard pricing for a made in the USA hand wired amp that has a tube driven tremolo and reverb with built in power scaling

They certainly could have done an overseas job here, but when you build amps in CA the price tends to be top of the market.

  17. I haven't tried this yet but seems an odd play to not really market something as an AI noise reduction tool ala ClarityVX or Goyo Super tone Clear.

They already have Nectar as an "ai" assisted vocal clarity/enhancer with multiple product tiers.  A v4 update would be a clear way to add the noise reduction component.

And if the emphasis isn't on noise reduction using AI, then isn't it at the core a Nectar competitor?

If they bring back the Super Goldtones from the 90s/00s, that would be sweet!

Agree, was surprised and disappointed they didn't re-release the goldtones here and went with something different.
