    Regular Human prices ?

The funny thing is that people who could afford Spitfire prices already get the libraries free (for advertisment).

And having an installer with limits instead of direct download links defeats the whole purpose of an installer.
If they're that strained for bandwidth there are many ways of mitigating this.

  3. I mean if you want to talk about modern interfaces Tracktion and Ableton are technically the most modern in terms of UI while still being traditional.

AIR's Ignite was even more modern and sought a somewhat novel approach to making music.

REAPER is very much an open book. The default GUI layout looks a lot like your average FOSS DAW - it works, but it's not incredibly efficient.
It's advantage is customization, leading to themes like PiolitFM or Eyssina that change the feel of the program a fair bit.

It really depends on your level of experience, the kind of mentorship you can access, what kind of music you're making and, most importantly, how much time you are willing and able to put in.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that what some people miss about older DAWs is the efficiency of their workflow and lack of hardware latency, not the grey, drab, borderline non-functional GUIs.

  4. I'd say given Studio One is made by people who formerly worked on Cubase, we're probably getting... another feature from Cubase.

Studio One pretty much looks like a somewhat more approachable Cubase from my PoV.

Without wishing to get too political, and not a comment on the legality or otherwise of JRR selling to the UK - I should mention that, unlike some others here, I have absolutely no problem in paying taxes - except that we have a very right wing Government in the UK (well not as right wing as in the US of course!) and some of my taxes tend to go towards making rich people even richer! So given this option to avoid VAT I took it knowing it would give me a little more money to put towards the causes I support who are helping the most disadvantaged in society. 🙂

The "point" of VAT is that it "pays" for the cost of maintaining infrastructure critical to delivery and sales (among other things).
Yes they are selling a "product" (a license key) made in the EU (Italy to be more specific) but OTOH JRR has no physical stores in the EU, nor do their cars drive on EU roads.
And I highly doubt the underwater cables connecting the US with Europe are exclusive property of (or even exclusively maintained by) the EU.

As an aside, plenty of EU-based software developers prefer to "eat" the cost of VAT themselves (at currency parity), so if they sell a product for $99 in the US they will usually sell it for €99 (incl. VAT) in the EU.

Yes! I got it for $125.99 . for me it was a total no-brainer. Now I am just fooling around selling them duplicates :P

Ah, silly me! You're recouping extra cash by selling your duplicates. Yeah, makes sense then.

    Total Max 2 would cost $100 :D

IIRC IK only lets you discount up to 30% of the price using jam points.
So the lowest you can go is $125.99 + sales tax (or VAT for Europe).
Which (depending on your case) could still be a great deal.

  8. I suppose you can buy the Presonus plugins separately, but for most people using them today, they likely have Studio One Pro.
Couple this with Reason's new model (giving up on rewire and creating a VST version of itself)

And obviously Ableton's plugins will remain exclusive, it's one of the big DAWs.

  9. Is the new business model to make a DAW with nice plugins, then ask people to buy your DAW just to access those plugins in other DAWs ? :)

Are we headed into a future where you buy 10 different DAWs just so you can use their signature plugins in Pro Tools, Cubase or Ableton ?

Yes, but in these times there are still big budget projects? So nobody feels the world's ending or anything like that?

Yeah, people are still working on big projects at home.

A lot of the work going into big budget movies and games does not require actors on the set.

People still hope that by May-June we can start opening up a few things here and there.

If we hit Italy's numbers globally then, yeah that would absolutely be catastrophic.

But for now we simply need to ramp up testing and keep social distancing rules in place.

Maybe basing our economies on people working with less than 3 feet of space between them wasn't such a great idea after all.

Just came to say hi guys, and to ask you since I am here: Are you guys really spending all this money on stuff? Plugins and what not? In these times of the virus? Just wondering, not judging :P

    Sonore, perc, sound amazing.

I'm sure there's people spending lots of money, they're usually professional composers working on big budget projects.
But, at least in my case as a hobbyist, I worked my way up from Komplete 11 Select to Komplete 12 CE over almost 3 years, taking advantage of all the possible discounts.

  12. TBH, Ableton's 90 day Suite trial is fairly generous. And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't really like Live all that much.

Steingberg is also offering a... not-quite-as-generous trial of 60 days. But they offer a bunch of products.

This is a fairly good opportunity for a lot of younger people to use their free time to learn a new skill.

  13. Nice, IIRC this used to be 32 bit only.

And, again IIRC, this is non-commercial because the plugin author doesn't have full rights to the samples.

  14. There's also this one:

Yes I'm sure I got it free with an old MIDI controller years ago.

M-Audio controllers used to come with these. Got my copy with a Keystation 32 mini some 3 years ago.

It's a fun little program TBH. It lets you play piano phrases like a pro with 2 fingers on each hand. 😂

Too bad they didn't make it into a VST nor kept developing it.

If you look a compare versions, Free is not fully featured.

It has unlimited tracks, unlimited VSTs, and most of the features of Tracktion 7, 8, 9.
It's also compatible with Mac OS, Linux (including Raspberry PI).
Compared to other free DAWs it offers quite a bit.

In terms of pure features Cakewalk has it beaten hands down, no contest and it surprises me that so few people realize this DAW still exists and is free.

Yep - quite a few of the Lab instruments existed previously as Kontakt instruments.

I guess they are trying to get folks to like their interface.  Personally I prefer Kontakt over the Labs interface.

I have some of the older Kontakt Labs; a few have features that are missing from the newer Spitfire App versions.
