  1. Sorry but i dealt with all this 11 years ago. 20 a day mini and then  many more when travelling…….

Question.  Why do you need to put all this on a forum ?

My solution, grow up (ouch) and deal with it. I did the so called cold turkey route. If you really want to give up you will. Sorry, but strength of mind is the way.  But then i’m a hard nut 😜

Sure,  it takes time but wow, a couple of months after you’ll think it was worth it.when your friends are lighting up and you’re  refusing. THAT is a great sign you’re nearly there. Then when you make your house a non smoking zone, thats the key.

My wife, who  btw i love dearly, is into hypnosis. She still smokes, but really reduced. She’s getting there. But then’ her will power is not what mine was. But hey, she and her friends smoke outside. No, thats not a criticism. YMMV however..

    whatever, good luck 👍👍😜

The band I was in seemed to have choosing a bad name down to a fine art. Iwas always outvoted and during my time we had at least 4 and the last one was the only one that I wasn't totally embarrassed to say out loud - The Sons of Katie Elder - which was nicked from a movie.

Could have been worse I suppose - we did once share the bill with the delightfully descriptive.... Dead Pigs under the church floor. The lead singer was a dog. I kid you not.

    So this was you ?

  3. Yes you’ve made that very clear in other posts you’ve made.

Some of us don’t have several PC’s, so we have to keep our DAW on line.

If you are careful, you’ll not have issues. As least I don’t.

And, after all, you can exclude your VST  and Cakewalk files from being scanned by Defender……….

The only harm then is Windows Update! 😆

Frankly, if there was not always this threat from Windows Update, then I would agree. There are 2 things that disturb me then: 1.) The updates are time consuming, 2.) there maybe some settings (happens all the time) or driver changed. Not that I mind security updates, but especially feature updates are (or have been) worthless for me.

Nevertheless I do it like you proposed with my mixing pc, but on my recording machine I can't, because I do not have internet in the barn.

You do realise you can turn off the windows update service ?

  5. Whereas 5/10 years ago there was reason NOT to keep a pc on line all the time, there really is no reason not to nowadays. You’re just making activation complicated.

Of course purists and, dare i say it, luddites, will scream and shout that you must never keep a DAW on line. But, Hell if the PC guru from Sound on Sound says its ok to be connected, well, its possibly true, no ?

YMMV of course, and i respect your Point of View. Its just not mine.

  6. i had this at one time, but since updating drivers for my 18i20, all is rock solid.

Focusrite have recently (a month or two ago) updated their drivers to be compatible with W11.

Download the latest one for your device from their website and install - it removes the old drivers as part of the install process.

My apprehension isn't about compatibility with Windows 11, it was primarily with dealing with plugin licenses.  Swapping out computer parts in the pasts has caused plugins to have to be re-registered.  It's not a big deal, just an annoyance.  I should have put in the first sentence, "This is not a big deal, or deal breaker."  Just wanted to know if anyone experienced if their licenses had issues if they updated to Windows 11, not a clean install of Windows 11.

I updated.  And, as i said above, had to re-authorise certain plugs.

Personally i would be more worried about whether my PC could pass the MS test. Mine did, many do not.

  8. You’ll need to check that your PC meets the W11 requirements. MS have a tool for this.

Its a piece of Cake to re-authorise vst’s nowadays. And just a couple of clicks using proprietary product portals.

Those vst’s that depend on a pc id (Toontrack, XLN …….) just fire up the product portal it really is easy.

W10 audio drivers will work in W11 (Soundcraft for example),  however most manufacturers release W11 compatible drivers (Focusrite for example).

That being said, before any upgrade you need to do a little bit of homework……

  9. I have the Oxygen 61 version. Just plug it into a USB2 socket, turn it on and then start CbB, in that order.

As it is class compliant you do not need any drivers for it. Windows will take care of that. It should now show up in Preferences/Midi Devices. Check the boxes to select it as input and output, Apply and you’re good to go.

I have the exact same issue as you Colin, and have had for quite some time. I also saw the same thing happening Terry in this thread from early 2021.

As stated, completely dumbfounded why this is happening during export, listening back to the WAV (44/24). I have a fairly well built i7 computer with 32 GB RAM, all SSD equipped, RME UCX interface with the latest drivers, no internet, AV or any other processes disturbing things. Now trying to export a finished, mixed and mastered  progrock-tune only containing roughly 75 tracks, and the computer/RAM or HD isn't sweating. Chirps still random on the export.

I will probably go REAPER from now on I'm afraid. After 20 years.

You could always change your i/buffers upwards when mixing and mastering, especially for such vst’s as Melodyne and Ozone.

i do that frequently, no issues.

    YMMV,

TREESHA... you're NOT the only one!!1
Many, too many of us have got that error ++ others that are appearing lately with Cakewalk SONAR by Bandlab.
(Maybe is the price to pay for "FREE" something that used to cost money... I for one, PAID FOR IT and now I've had to go back to Cubase, MOTU... )
The Customer support is only via email of course and is DREADFUL!!
Answers to problems to a Computer technician and Music & Technology MBA such as... Reboot the PC... Check your Firewall...

Pls, GET SONAR Platinum back and CHARGE for it so we can complain and get answers.
Bandlab... You have made a complete MESS of a decent program with EXCELLENT Client Support.

    NOT Activated.jpg

…….. and you have of course done something as simple as reading the other thread called :

    Cakewalk  Activation Error (20)

you being  in IT and having an MBA ? That might help you plus you should dial down the anger a little.

    All the best,

  12. I was only with my company for 32 years, but as i was productive when i worked, i was productive in music also.

Since being retired (its when others pay your contributions Mr Dickins) i’ve certainly been less productive in music. I honestly don’t know if there is a correlation there but ………

For the last few weeks i’ve forced myself and i’m getting back (i hope) to where i was 3 years ago.

    YMMV of course…..

For the first 18 months of COVID I let my hair grow. Now that I'm older my hair is just fine strands of silver threads. I'm back to same old bapu now. In fact, I'm due for a trim.

I did it upside down. I let my beard grow, which served me well for the grand kids at Xmas 2019.

    Then i shaved.

But i haven’t shaved for a few months now, and have got past the itchy stage. To shave or not is now the question……

But it never made me a better player (or worse for that matter).

    YMMV

Thank you very much for the answers :) I see that have to do it manually: create instrument tracks, move the content of the midi tracks to the instrument tracks, delete MIDI tracks as  msmcleod said 👍, and also write the name of the tracks one by one :(

It's a pity because Cakewalk opens the midifile and assigns the tracks perfectly, including the track name, it's great, but it's not useful because have to assign instruments.

Yes, but there are not GM MIDIfiles

    Greetings

And how does CbB (or any other DAW)  know which instrument VSTi  (eg EZBass)  to assign to your midi tracks ?

i export as midi files from Guitar Pro 8. Then i import said midi into CbB it gives me the name of each track. Then its just a question of transferring the bass into EZ Bass’s midi track and the drums into EZDrummers’s midi track.

    Unless i’m missing something …’
