  1. David- My focus will be more on using acoustic/electric bass samples as available in the DAW(which I'd also appreciate an overview of)along w/audio recorded using a keyboard workstation w/various bass options, rather than a synth bass..... Aware of the SI Bass, the TTS-1,and seem to remember something else I found(MIDI options in one of the Browser dropdowns??)at one point.. Been working on figuring everything out and keeping track of things w/notes...at this point it's all still a bit undigested....
  2. Glad you joined the discussion..have you been doing this and if so w/what type of instrument?
  3. Thx for the double tip man... BTW new here as well as to CbBL and am glad to find people that know things and will offer info to the less-experienced,hope to keep these online rel.going as there's a ton of other stuff I could also post about as well.... How much of a difference in the end result is there between the features of Melodyne before/after,i.e.does the fact that it reverts to setting up a mono MIDI track mean much in terms of the interleave track/bus/master output options?
  4. Did a little research and according to Documentation, just dragging an audio clip directly to the MIDI track converts it(see Audio-Midi conversion a little ways down the page where it says,"Do one of the following" https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR X3&language=3&help=Region_FX.04.html#1679092 Also found a couple of YouTube tutorials, this one shows using Melodyne- and coincidentally uses a bass audio track, while this one shows a different technique involving setting a synth up on the MIDI track prior to dragging the audio... https://youtu.be/u4b5r7fm25o
  5. Much thx to both people who replied above- Appreciate the info about Melodyne and will be checking this out ... After watching the tutorials yesterday my thinking was focused mainly on the idea of sample augmentation and/or replacement applied to bass(as well as other instruments)and the process shown in general without really considering the specifics of how to do this...appreciate the heads up re-pitch related concerns.... I'm under the impression that an audio track can be converted to a midi one fairly easily without having to get into all the aspects of working w/the Drum Replacer and that using both types of tracks together would allow for a MIDI-based sample to be combined w/the original track... Interested in further feedback about this, especially from any one who's actually involved in doing this who might be able to describe the processes used... For ex,could a drum audio track be copied to a midi track directly and then the same thing be applied as described above? What are the advantages of using Drum Replacer vs.this if both options are available? My concept of the ASP based on the tutorials I've watched was using it mainly in terms of quantization/setting up a rhythmic feel from a part of a track or a reference track/Groove Clip etc that gets applied to the rest of the tracks using the Pool;this was the first time I'd seen the Transients processes shown in terms of setting up samples.... Again appreciate the replies as well any continued info about all the related aspects of this stuff...
  6. Just watched some tutorials about using Drum Replacer and wondering about doing this same process w/a bass track...would using the ASP to analyze the transients then setting up a MIDI file be the way to do this or would getting into importing bass MIDI files into the Drum Replacement options be the way to go? New to using CbBL ,just starting to get a sense of things and would appreciate breakdown of the steps involved here as it seems using sample replacement w/an existing track is just as viable an option as duplicating it,processing the new track differently(i.e.w/EQ/compression/FX etc) then grouping it w/the original....
  7. Wondering about using this to replace/augment bass tracks...anyone done this?
  8. Really appreciate everyone who's replied here, much thanks for taking the time to post the links!!Will be looking everything over and would appreciate being able to keep this thread active w/everyone who's been good enough to post and get into things... If anyone who actually currently has Jamstix 4 installed and uses it in CbBL wants to post here w/info about things this would be great...
  9. New to CbBL but since I've been watching many tutorials and done a lot of studying of both the Documentation and Reference Guide,I've been able to develop a good sense of how to do things and have been working with projects already;however I'm posting this to get some community feedback about using third-party drum plugins... I had been studying an older(2010)series of Cakewalk TV tutorials about Session Drummer 3,seeing what it could do I investigated various drum plugins and found out about Jamstix 4,installed it but not sure about how to get it to actually work in CbBL,where it would go,etcetc... In addition I'd be interested in finding out about any of the other drums plugins options people use along with the included SI Suite Drums....

    SI Suite/Jamstix 4

New to using CbBL but since I've been watching many tutorials and done a lot of studying of both the Documentation and Reference Guide,I've been able to develop a good sense of how to do things and have been working with projects already;however there a couple of things I wanted to get some community feedback about- I recently installed the SI Suite, however they are not showing up in the Browser under the Instruments icon but rather as part of the FX plugins in the Overloud dropdown- I had been studying a tutorial that showed how to set up an SI option (i.e Drums) by drag/dropping it to empty area where it creates both audio/MIDI tracks and was able to do this w/the one Instrument that does show up in the Instruments dropdown in the Browser, the TTS-1,however this is the only one there... I was able to drag/drop the SI Drums onto an existing track in the FX bin,saw it come up and that it's active as I saw the levels move when I hit one of the drum pads but there was no sound as the above methodology for this wasn't used... I received some info about things relating to various folders/files where things are stored and looking into setting things up using the Cakewalk Plug-In Manager on one of the Facebook forums but wanted to check here as well to get a clear picture of exactly what to do before messing around with things I'm only somewhat familiar with... Along the same lines I had been studying an older(2010)series of Cakewalk TV tutorials about Session Drummer 3,seeing what it could do I investigated various drum plugins and found out about Jamstix 4,installed it but not sure about how to get it to actually work in CbBL,where it would go,etcetc... Appreciate any info about this stuff, especially from anyone using Jamstix 4 in the DAW..
  11. Thx for replying and for the info- To clarify things, what I'm looking for is feedback about the actual process involved in taking a full-length track(i.e. 3+ min.)and making shorter length clips from it in terms of setting the NOW time/SMPTE #'s to reflect the changed start /end times etc and being able to do this so the clip will be exactly 15/30/60 sec.long... Would appreciate hearing from anyone who actually has experience w/this...
  12. New to CbBL,been doing a lot of studying YouTube tutorials along w/the Ref Guide/documentation etc and starting to develop a sense of how to do things .. Looking for info/tips/advice on making edits where the focus is on getting very precise start/end times .. I've figured out how to do it using a combination of Audio Transient Markers/grid lines/setting markers/selecting clips/checking the selection using LOOP etc but I'd like to be able to find a screen that would show me in/out times which could be adjusted instead of doing things manually ... I've seen that the "SELECTION" drop-down in the upper R corner has in/out times that can be set along these lines but have yet to figure out the difference between the time increments used there and on the TIME RULER relative to the various options for setting the numbers on the counter etc...looking for a way of establishing 15/30 sec.etc clips lengths exactly .. Seeing the DAW can do everything imaginable I'm sure this has also been focused on by the people behind it and the method to do this is available somewhere in its' many features... Any help finding out exactly where would be greatly appreciated...
  13. Here's the other thread I posted here.. Just checked and found notifications for this thread were off, reset them so will get notified...
  14. Jake- Thx for replying..for some reason I didn't get notified about it although I've been getting notifications about another thread I have here...will have to check this out... Anyways I happened to review the video again today and scrolled down which is how I saw you'd replied last week... I've been studying a ton of YouTube video tutorials about using CbBL as well as the Ref Guide/documentation...found out that most of the Sonar Platinum info applies to the new version(as well as some of the older versions which have features they've continued on into this new one) so w/all the combined tutorials available I've been able to put together a pretty good sense of things..but I still would appreciate being able to run things by you as they come up... As far as my original post above and the specific things I was mentioning, any info about these in the context of CbBL would be great,i.e.if you know of tutorials where they're focused on... Saw you have a video on the Transverse Audio site where you give links for free stereo widening plug-ins,thx for this....what about this kind of stuff re-CbBL?...saw that you can get into mid/side panning/mixing w/it using included plug-ins etc,,what about extending this to binaural panning techniques-would this require adding a 3rd party plug-in? Thx again for replying man...

  16. Thx man for continuing to go over this stuff- Been doing a lot of studying things online/watching YouTube tutorials to develop a complete sense of everything involved re-doing exactly what you're suggesting above w/all the projects I'll be in importing as individual tracks along with getting started recording new ones using CbBL.... One thing I'm focused on right now in terms of tracking is - What kind of approach is usually used for the all the tracks of a given instrument in the context of the final multitrack mix? In other words, once the 2 mono tracks have been used to either make a stereo one or grouped in a aux FX channel/sent to a bus before being routed along w/all the other tracks of the same type(for ex,SN top/bottom as 2 mono tracks-various approaches to processing them before they end up in the main drum bus) ... Would there be any sense in including the original mono tracks/the pre-bus aux/FX channel in the final mix along with the main bus or would doing this just contribute to an unbalanced stereo field? Or,as I've seen on DAW screens/read about in articles describing various tracking approaches, would using the snare/kick original mono tracks along w/the main drum bus,or as part of a parallel processing set-up be the way to go? What's been a little confusing is that I've been focusing on the tracking used in the tutorials I've been studying but not seeing this in the final mix DAW screen, only as it's shown when various ways of processing a track are used-the original track along w/the new one are both shown and the person showing what's been done to the original A/B's them using the M/S buttons...wondering if just the new one is used in the final mixdown or if a wet/dry technique is involved? Thx again to Promidi and in advance to anyone else reading this who wants to reply w/a description of their own system of dealing w/this stuff...
  17. Hey thx man for taking the time to go into this in more detail... If/when you get a chance,I'd be interested in what kinds of approaches you yourself have actually used for this kind of thing .. Although I plan on recording directly into the DAW on future projects, right now I'm dealing w/importing mono wav.files. . Interested in finding out about different techniques that can be used such as duplicating a given track,EQ'ng it differently than the original etc, then setting it up w/the original track in the context of the mix...
  18. Thx for posting this-along w/some other replies to the same question on the CbBL FB group,I've got a good sense of this now- Does the DAW along for additional adjustment of the 2 tracks once they're bounced to stereo or is this something that has be done beforehand? In other words, once I set the pan position of the source tracks that's "set in stone" or can I access the individual tracks inside the stereo one?
  19. Thanks for replying w/this info-appreciate any further tips/advice about things... Looked over the ref manual pages(863-6/Dialogue Box description section)but would like to be able to understand things in layman's terms so to speak...
  20. Just downloaded Cakewalk by BandLab yesterday along w/the reference guide PDF and been watching a bunch of YouTube tutorials, did a Google search, searched these forums, etc but still can't find the info I'm looking for so I figured I"d post here- How would I take 2 tracks created by importing mono wav.files and combine then into a single stereo track? Also interested in info about how to set the individual pan position of each within the stereo track as well as any other related tips about the process...
  21. Jake- Appreciate you making this available, just downloaded Cakewalk by BandLab yesterday and this is the first video I've watched... Wonder if you could point me in the direction of others you'd recommend- My specific areas of focus are- Combining 2 (or more) mono tracks to create a stereo track EQ Compression Plug-ins that are already part of the unit and accessible as well as info about how to add others Stereo imaging/widening Importing reference tracks to A/B mix against If you get a chance, you can email me directly about this @ gary@garyshorecomposermusician.com Again much thx for making this video, very educational and easy to understand....
