  1. I happened to get a set of those very expensive cables for Christmas one year way back in the late 80s early 90s iirc? I still have them. I think they were something like $45 for a single 3ft cable? I remember the little arrow stickers. They are long gone now so I guess I'm screwed. ? I had a high end Sony head and high end Sony cassette deck. They were too good. The hiss from the tape deck just sitting idle was unbelievable. Same woth the cd player. Hooked up my $1.99 radio shack cables and it went away. I spent a fortune on those cables when I was a kid. The thing I remember about them most was they were so tight I broke a couple RCA Jack's getting them on and off. I remember the place I bought it all from charging me $75 for a "high end" optical cable for the CD player. Still have it too, and about 30 free ones that came with various things as the optical connection became more widely used. ?
  2. Well thank God we got that cleared up before he went out and got 30 rolls of green tape. Whew!
  3. @Bapu I read that the green painters tape sounds better. Might want to retape everything and see. Make some 384/64 samples and do some A/B comparisons? Maybe some null tests perhaps?
  4. There's a lot of great artists out there today like her but they don't make it to the radio, except places like NPR. NPR in Kansas City played a lot of music by artists like her. I don't think all NPR's are the same though. You have to search ind. artists on your own. YouTube, Twitch, places like that.
  5. Want proof "they're listening"? I got a call from my Sweetwater rep tonight asking me how everything was and he just wanted to touch base. 1st time in over 2 years. Just an FYI, they told me they make 3 attempts to deliver when a signature is required. After the third failed attempt they leave a note and a number for you to call to arrange for you to go pick it up. They stop trying after the 3rd time.
  6. Yes. It's available for situations like this. They drop it off and take a picture of where they put it. If it's at the wrong house then it's no different than any other wrong delivery. I despise FedEx. They have screwed me so many times at work and at home. In multiple states. NJ, PA, IA, MO. They are cheaper than UPS, or used to be, that's why people use them. But they really truly suck.
  7. I'm in a rush so I didn't read all the replies. Apologies if this was already mentioned. Get the FedEx app. You can go in and digitally sign for your package so they deliver it without you having to be there when a signature is required. I don't stress anymore when a seller says "signature required". It works. I've done it multiple times after my guitar fiasco with Sweetwater. I didn't know about it before I watched new guitar being driven away out of my driveway 3 ***ing times! ?????????
  8. Rumor has it, he's transitioning, to Linux.
  9. Does Starbucks offer you a shot of Atrazine in that vegan iced latte'? ?
  10. CC isn't a hoax. It's been happening since the planet was formed and theys aints a got dang thang anyone can do about it. Or should. @ the OP ... welcome to the forum. You found what I think is the best resource on the net for this hobby of ours.
  11. I was quite find of my old TI 99 computer. I remember programming animated sequences line by line in machine language. I didn't have the BASIC expansion cartridge. They call those complicated animatuons animated GIFs now I think.
  12. Creative phase manipulation? There is a plug in Ozone 9 Advanced that allows you to adjust the level of some instruments on a mixed down track. I used it quite a bit on my last project on old 4 track tape tranfers. I rike it a rot.
  13. I avoid that forum these days. No dough ray me and I have to avoid the temptation. ? I just hope they don't lump it all together and make some convoluted mess of never ending monthly fees.
  14. Just got an email saying iZotope is now Native Inatruments. I don't know if I see a good side to this.
  15. Isn't that basically what VST3 is? I haven't read anything about this in a while, but if IIRC the "advanced" capabilities of VST3 are very similar to what Midi 2.0 is capable of. Maybe we'll see the features of VST3 being used more often now. I could be totally wrong ...
  16. Probably something multicolored and more inclusive, so no other colors feel left out.
  17. I wouldn't worry about that. I read they are planning on changing it to a different color.
  18. This may be in Craig's posted links. I haven't had a chance to look yet. I've suffered from 3 distinct tones in both ears for most of my life. Caused by ear infections since I was born. I have messed up ears. One thing that helped me was using a tone generator in my DAW and finding the frequency of the tones I hear. Then raise the volume till it was equal or slightly louder than the tinnitus tone. I actually cured one of the tones and lessened the others. The other thing that helped significantly was a supplement that Craig had mentioned one time called NAD+. It significantly reduced the ringing although it never claimed to be able to do that. It's expensive and I had to stop it and eventually the ringing came back to where it was. Other than that, at this point it seems there's nothing that can be done. I have read that there is some research with gene therapy that has been successful. I think relief and maybe even a cure isn't all that many years away. I sometimes sleep with a desktop white noise generator going nights to mask it. It's maddening laying in the dark with it all quiet in the room and all you can focus on are the tones in your head. It also has ocean sounds with seaguls and crickets. You can get them cheap on Amazon.
  19. In the U.S. there are actually dB level ordinaces. You can get a knock on the door from the police, and a ticket if a neighbor complains and you don't comply with police request to turn it down, but what's happening in the U.K. is over the top. In NJ it's 65 dB from 7am to 10pm and 50db 10pm to 7am. I would guess it varies state to state.
  20. So, now that I have to pay for it again, will I be re-banned?
  21. Ozone 9 Advanced completely changed everything for me from mixing to mastering. I'm able to get to a finished master now significantly quicker, with subpar headphones. 2 years ago now, which BTW was the last time I turned on my DAW, I transferred some old 4 track masters my brother and I recorded in the 80s. I did a massive amount of editing including extensive vocal repair (using Melodyne) and added new instruments. I did it all with headphones using O9A. I didn't even have my monitors hooked up. It only took 2 or 3 trips to the car and listening to YouTube uploads to get the best masters that I've ever done. Those are my main listening environments so that's what I was shooting for. I really like O9A but I'm also 100% certain the same results could be achieved just as easily by someone with other plugs and a better setup than I have. I'm just a home DIY/hobbyist when it comes to all this. The visual plugs that help you master helped me significantly. The big downside I ran in to is, you need a powerful system. Even if you don't embed it in to all your tracks and just use the stand alone plugs it can bog you down real quick.
  22. I remember an original series episode along those lines. I forget the actors name that played the part of the creator of the AI, but I do remember he also played Dracula in the Blacula franchise in the 70s. He was a very good and underrated actor.
  23. I would be worried that the current free version wouldn't work anymore if they did go to a paid thing and those that can't afford to pay would be locked out of their work. You would be locked out of all the work you've one since the X series. I always preferred using Cakewalk but never switched back once the free version came out for fear of this happening, getting reinvested in it, then have it disappear again. That's why I stuck with another DAW. That said, you could look at as the best demo period of any software ever and just start paying if it comes to that and not miss a step. I just hope that they do not go with subscription service only if the time comes when we have to start paying.
  24. OpenOffice for documents and spreadsheets and Gimp for photo editing are just as good as MS and Adobe for my needs. I did buy Adobe Light room for RAW editing. I have the last version you could buy. I have nothing against subscriptions as an option. Most times it's actually cheaper if you are one to always upgrade to new versions when they are released. I just don't like the idea of being locked out if I don't keep paying a fee monthly.
  25. It's possible they weren't, but I have never heard a band so tight before. Maybe being from the big apple the bar is a lot higher and there's a better talent pool to form a group from? IDK. They even had a full sized sound shield in front of the drummer. I noticed when they started, the low mids were brutal. A guy came out from the back of the stage area. He had an iPad and was walking around the room making adjustments to their sound system with it and got it cleared up before the first song ended. That was the only time I saw him. The singers had iPads on their mic stands too. There were two small column like monitors that they were all mixed through. There was a drummer, bass, sax, lead guitar player, lead singer/acoustic player, keyboard, and a second lead singer. It was all controlled via an iPad wirelessly. I've been thinking about playing live again but after seeing that kind of competition I think I'll just slink back in to my hole and find another hobby. I'd be a hypocrite if I cried foul though. Toward the end of my band days we prerecorded tracks and played along. At least we did it old school. It was me playing all the backing tracks on an 8 track I then transferred to DAT and we didn't hide it. And we did do about half of the night 100% live. But it's accepted now and the norm I guess.
