Nice to see. I was starting to think that I was the only one left in this sub-forum still using  Cakewalk!  I mean, I remember when everyone was getting Studio One. I bought the premium version but never used it -- and now Presounus is the company being bought.

I always thought going from Sonar to S1 was an easier transition,

I checked Native Access earlier this evening. Nada. Now this post, and voila, there were 4 updates. P's me off that NA insists on reinstalling the 32-bit .DLLs after I delete them after each update. At least it's only for Battery 4 this time.

Most of my updates fail and then I have to use their reg tools or Windows Installer clean up to update.

Cakewalk, to me, is the best DAW, aesthetically, on the market!  And the Skylight interface,
again, to me, is the way a DAW should work.  I came from Cubase to Sonar X1, and ever since
then, Cakewalk, has been my main DAW.  It just seems "logical" to me...and I have Pro Tools,
Samplitude, Reaper, Mixbus 32C, Mixbus, Mixcraft Pro, Acid Pro, Sound Forge Pro...blah blah
blah.  They all do basically "the same thing"...it's just "how they get there" that's different.

To me, Cakewalk just "makes sense" but YMMV

I made a project in Sonar 2/Gigastudio.  I somehow lost the midi files and only have the tracks left. I'm trying to resurrect the midi from audio.  The drawback is the notation editor just sucks.  They also need to make the grid lines longer for measures when editing.

I find most modern DAWs annoying with the docking, undocking.  I know these were meant for laptop users and multiple screens.   Sonar 2 was my favorite.

I like watching the Creative Sauce guy on youtube for Cakewalk.

I have all of the versions of Sonar but skipped 6.

  4.  Not a fan of subs.  I know there's the usual yada yada the people use for Waves that you don't have to upgrade and you can still use it but not everyone has that discipline.  These have a long term cost compared to most DAWs.

I think I will take the next year to spend some more time with FL while i sit out and see how the new Cubase 12 and the new  licensing plays out .. It seems daft to buy an upgrade for something you have no clue what is in it.

Those 2 are like apples and oranges.  You have to login to FL Studio at times.  A lot of software is like that.

I like how Reason does it.  One machine keeps the offline license and you can install it on other machines and you just login in to use it. What's nice is the login remembers and you don't have to type.

Let's not forget the mad dash to get the freebie for the limited number runs out!

I'm at the opinion of those who can't rearrange their life to score the giveaways is they get like a real heavy discount like at least 75% on the missed giveaway. It seems like a win for both sides. I guess the only drawback is running out of serials. The reality is some have gotten free stuff more than they bought. I'm not saying this in jealousy as I happen to be one of those who have gotten free products more than I bought from some developers.

It's weird. Back in the day when I was studying for my BBA degree, one of the things that was emphasized is that it's always easier and cheaper to keep a client than to acquire a new one. I think they showed us some numbers and it cost like ten times as much to get a new client, depending on the industry.

I wonder if that's changed with modern CRM and marketing tools, or if there is just a huge number of businesses that haven't done the math, but it feels like customer loyalty is rarely rewarded these days.

Sounds like a great topic for the coffee house.

Oddly enough the ones I see rewarding users are ones that have free lifetime updates.
