Hmmm, already have 3 of these. And I'd rather get the WGII- Studio Grand (as opposed to just the WGII), but $43 is pretty cheap. I think I'll wait to see what comes up in the future.

We can get the WGII-Studio Grand for $25 using Audio Plugin Deals reward credits.

And Sampletekk's TVBO is the same piano as the 7CG, recorded in the same space, with the same microphone, but has 50% more samples. The TVBO includes a 2nd microphone choice, I guess That's the only difference I can see, other than a diffrent GUI. If I were to get only one of these, it would probably be the TVBO. Unless someone with more experience has compared these two and still recommends the 7CG.

Just wait till Sampletekk has a sale. They might have one now.

  2. People don't realize how difficult it is to take over one's code.  Magix hasn't done much with Acid except change the paint and overprice it. Garritan bought the Gigastudio technology but too much code to do anything with it.

You have more than me, I didn't even bother downloading it in the first place.  I just grabbed it for free and left it right there on their servers.

Maybe I should grab the few midi files as they don't take up much room though.

I keep the midis, presets, then convert the demo of each construction kit to mp3.

Guys, this is a total rookie type question, but I rarely use loops in my productions. I greatly use multisample libraries and mulyisample based VSTs (KONTAKT, Superior Drummer, Addictive Drums, MTron Pro, Battery...) that I can play with a midi controller keyboard or drum kit . I was wondering if CR-8 and Cosmos are mainly just useful for loops or and one shot samples for more EDM type music -- and especially,  I was trying to understand if CR-8 can be used for creating playable instruments like multi-sample libraries I use in KONTAKT? Thanks in advance.

Me too but I could probably do all of that in Live and of course Kontakt.

It's not that painful to reauthorize with the License Manager if you've not used it for a while, honestly.  I got a free expansion pack (Horsepower) when I migrated.  I track actual acoustic drums nowadays but BFD3.4 works well on older projects which I tracked with e-drums.

Any content that was created for BFD1 or 2 is EOL now. Except the 8 Bit Kit for some reason, not sure why.  They shifted from wave files to BFDLAC which take up less space.  No great loss.  The current 3.4.3.7 build is way easier to mix with.  The paradigm shifted from a plethora of drum makes and models sampled, to a smaller assortment with better mixing options, and better presets, etc.

Sorry it's giving you grief.  I know I paid a lot more than $49 way back when so there is that...

    It is.

Sorry didn't catch your drift 🙂

I use WaveLab 11 pro and Cubase (occasionally) on my PC... It is for mix capture and Mastering only... the rest is on Mac . W10 works great, oh and I have Network and Wifi switched off as well... Hope this helps  🙂

Usually when I start with a fresh install (which is rare) I install less with the thought of "I never use the app anyway". Over time that smaller disk space creeps back up with more hoarding.

Exactly.  That was the motivation for my post above.

Waves is fairly aggressive with their pricing which makes me wonder how much longer they can last.

When there's this much competition, that 'race-to-the bottom' pricing someone mentioned above drives companies out of business.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some serious consolidation where the big 'fish' eat the small ones.  It seems inevitable at this point (unless selling plugins is much more profitable then I think).

Maybe now's a good time to download and back-up all your serial numbers...

Waves had a bad reputation with their WUP at the beginning of the century.  iLok also had a reputation for ruining hard drives back then.  Those don't die quickly. Waves also has the worst licensing model along with Steinberg,  How many people are willing to pay $200 for a  plugin with WUP?

At the same time both companies often don't have mediocre products either.

6 years of resistance is pretty insane in computer terms. At a certain point people are just asking for trouble, and I'd prefer audio software developers not cater to people who clearly aren't taking the security or stability of their computer's seriously. Total waste of resources to cater to these 8 people.

That's why developers don't bother with Linux.

I didn't even bother as yet to try to upgrade my Windows machines, as main comps are Macs. Complete re-install takes time...

The only blessing to that is you often cut down on apps only to start the cycle of acquiring more stuff.

Love MSF but am curious what crossover you are seeing between that and this CR8 business.

You can create your own stuff.  I haven't watched the full tutorials yet.

They were based in the UK and gave good customer service.  That's not cheap.  Lots of people like to buy direct too.

It all part of the "race to the bottom" on prices I guess.    I love a bargain as much as the next guy/gal but I also think we need to look at the bigger picture when we buy.  Developers/resellers deserve to get paid just like everyone else.

Unfortunately some developers are offering better deals direct instead of the distributors slugging it out.

I have a Seagate external USB drive that I use for full disc images (using Macrium Reflect).  But I have a second USB drive and alternate backups.  If one were to fail, I still have the backup from other drive.

Current Seagate drives are as reliable as any other brand.  Anything has the possibility of failing, regardless of the brand.  If things never failed there would be no need for warranties or service techs.

Seagate did have a reliability problem  5+ years ago but that was fixed.  I think Western Digital owns Seagate.

I remember when a 500gb drive was the max and I had a Seagate the lasted over a decade.   I still have some WD Blue 320gb drives I use for archiving.

I usually use at least 5 SATA ports on each machine.  I'm thinking of getting a 4tb HDD and going with 3 1TB SSD drives for libraries.
