Or they’ll do a final $99 offer for those who own Kontakt versions :)

I'd like to see it reversed by getting a deal on that Kontakt versions.

Something I noticed is going to their youtube channel that were they could do better.  I downloaded the Iceland library but any videos were mostly talk. There's nothing about what makes it different.  Sure you can hear the individual sounds but no demo of the sounds together.  This is where they seem to lack a walk through unless it's a flagship product.

A new GM synth shouldn't be too tall of an order for a future Sonar update. In fact the synth engine used to preview midi in Bandlab assistant (before they removed it ) wasn't half bad.  Side note, I had hoped Loopcloud would add something like that to preview midi too.

I never cared for the Loopmaster label because their lack of midi.

I'm hoping Image Line will have this function but yet they don't have that in their DAW.

FL Studio, Live, and Reason don't have these functions.

FWIW, You do NOT want to disable Hyper-Threading.

That was necessary many years back... with the very first implementation.

Hasn't been necessary since Steinberg and other developers caught up (shortly after).

When I see disable HT I  find it hard to follow any advice from the author.

I have had tts since it was made available. Although,  I have moved on to shall we say more pro line synths and samplers.

I was speaking in terms of new Sonar customers who will no longer have the option of a GM synth right out of the gate!

It has is handy if you like to audition midi files without more clicks to open up a VST.

OK, you guys talked me into it. 😀 This is my first venture into the Kontakt ecosystem.

A question for people with a bunch of big sample libraries: can you run them successfully from a portable USB-attached hard drive? I've got a Western Digital drive I plug in for local backups, but I've never tried running samples from it. Before I go and load it up, I thought somebody here might know if it's worth trying. Thanks.

The size of a library and the speed of a drive have a lot to do with it.  There are some affordable USB SSDs out there.

Be aware that a lot of the recent NI updates are making old Kontakt 6 libraries only work with K7.

They only require the free Player version, but a lot of people have been having issues with K7, so keep this in mind if you’re the cautious type.

I'm sure that a lot of the issues have been sorted by now but why take the risk if you don’t see an upside.

They are often adding NKS2 support too, if that gets your interest.

Which they should have done earlier.

I'm not jealous because someone is paying less. Good for them getting a great deal!

You always have to pick your own point of entry that you can afford, since there's always a new deal or a new product just around the corner. And I did and I can live with it.

However, I do feel dumb thinking that it would take at least more than 2 months (6-12 maybe?) for the price to meld another $100 after the "biggest fomo sale season" on a product that is this extensive. Especially considering how, aside from price glitches, Cinesamples used to be quite conservative with going beyond "normal" discounts.

Here's hoping East West follows suit... still need to get Fantasy Orchestra and Forbidden Planet.

Well they have for HOOPUS upgrade.  I still have HO Gold and the upgrade is $199.

VSL is heading that way.  I got the Sax collection for their old player and the upgrade to Synchron was cheap.  The upgrade doesn't render the other license useless.  This is another knock against Waves if you upgrade the other license s gone.

Musio 1 is definitely worth $199. Hell, it was worth it when I paid $299 and I owned a good chunk of Cinesamples Kontakt libraries.

But oh boy, do I feel like a dunce and cheated for paying that price in the Black Friday/Year End promos not even two full months back. I understand ever deeper discounts at some point, but after less than two months a drop of a full Benjamin Franklin sure leaves a bit of a sour taste. Also made my mouse finger twitch as it tries to figure out whether or not Cinesamples moves below the line that separates those that deserve support and those that do not.

Great libraries though and especially so if they keep improving the software (which they've already done and seem willing to listen to feedback).

I hate being jealous because someone pays less.   Every industry is like that.   I rarely pay the price of a new game release and I wait for the race down to the bottom.

  9. Sooner or later it had to happen with library developers in the race to the bottom.  There is also less costs in involved with no mass producing discs and shipping. Maybe shiny and new isn't always working since the small number of heavy orchestra users.   Oh look there's another new string library - like who cares?  Not enough.  I think these deals are only for the casual user who might want strings or brass once is a great while. I feel that way with Komplete but I can never seem to blow off upgrading.

I'm thinking about this deal.  The reality is I haven't even audition most of the stuff I bought since November.   The drawback is I still prefer Kontakt libraries.  VSL is the only proprietary player I prefer.

Kontakt is "the man" like MS were people want to dethrone.  I takes awhile for a player to mature.  I remember Kontakt wasn't even considered in the same league as Gigastudio.    I'm already annoyed at the numerous apps one has to install for a developer's distribution.

These licenses work only for the hardware first activated on. If your motherboard dies you would need to purchase again (or any change to hardware significant enough to confuse the licensing server).  I've used these types of licenses before, you're activating against a volume license key.

    Must be OEMs.

Absolutely. It is. I certainly agree.  I just strongly suspect that from CInesamples getting very aggressive with their pricing (discounting) for their Musio line and, especially considering the industry trends (that is, that some of their competitors, including NI, are heavily discounting) , that it's very likely that it will impact their KONTAKT line too.  There's just too much going on -- pricing-wise -- in the marketplace that makes it likely to happen. Probably more than anything, NI's increasing aggressive with their discounting of sample libraries is likely to have the greatest impact on the marketplace. It does make sense that developers can afford to heavily discount older libraries that long ago paid back production costs.

As a sample user, I've been loving it. I picked up Alicia's Keys for 13 bucks this week! Come on CInesamples --Piano and Blue (KONTAKT) for 13 bucks! Make it happen!!!  ;)

NI can lower their prices all day.  Outside of Komplete I rarely ever buy a NI library.  It's mostly 3rd party.  Part of it is no direct downloads and trust that Asshat (cr)app.   It's fine when it works but with 3 machines it's rare I get 100% performance.  Their NTKDeemon is often the problem when it wants to f'upgrade.

  13. Enshittification - when successful companies are bought and the stuffed shirts make it worse.

I guess VMWare may be on that list.

Izotope and NI are getting on my sheisse liste with Native Asshat and Product Poortal.

Poor eco system but great software.

Too many developers spend time updating their distribution proccess.

I have to folder with a least 20 shortcuts just for downloading and upgrading software.  It's great when it works but when it doesn't it's a hassle.

Some people leave companies when they are bought because they smell the crap ahead of time.

At what point does one throw out the baby with the bath water?

Hopefully the developers of certain products quit and start their own companies.

Some companies are getting like sports owners of habitual losing teams.  They look at profits but never winning.

Hats off to developers where you can download directly.

I know more people that use Adobe than use a DAW with adon effects as a hobby and I live in both worlds.

Both are worlds of a sea of hobbiests vs a small pool of people making a sustainable living wage at it, and ironically it takes most more than a decade to make pro level results in music and plenty of people can get good enough for a small gig in photography/editing in less than two years without prior experience with some practice and youtube instruction.

Much harder to overcome the investment costs in music than it is in the digital art world.

Unfortunately the stuffed shirts in the DAW industry haven't quite figured that out.   Eventually the sub service price increases have the hobbyist finding alternatives.

I second that and why I normally just upgrade to standard which is everything but the extra vsti and libs which amounts to orchestral stuff and some other things I didn't need. Quite a bit comes with the suite package. My upgrade before the end of Feb from 11 to 12 is $127.00.

That's the worst part of it.  I never install the originals. They added some small stuff from Spitfire.  People use Simpler far more than Sampler.
