In my case, I am only interested in Kontakt 7 and Guitar Rig 6. My upgrade price to K14U is around $250. If I just upgrade the items I want, its around $120. One of the new Kontakt libs I got, the Kareem Riggins uses uses K7. I run it through player.

How does that new Kareem Riggins compare?

  2. When I drag a track template from the browser, the only place it will let me drag it is to the bottom of the track list.

It would be nice if the drag and drop functionality would function so that it shows a red line where it is going to drop, or highlighting a track if it is going to replace it (and giving a dialog to confirm replacement of the track template.  Of course, that means the replace functionality has to work, but that's another topic).

  3. Over the course of time, I have made a few track templates containing a simple instrument track.

If I add an instrument track into a project, and then decide to right click on the track and select "Replace From Track Template" and select one of my single-instrument track templates, I always get an error similar to the following

Track template 'R6 Monark Lead' is incompatible with this track type.

Why might I be getting this error?  I might understand if it got confused by sends or routing but this is a situation where you have an instrument track going straight to master.

In the Arturia web page, we can find the FX Collection 3 only

    https://www.arturia.com/products/software-effects/fx-collection/overview

But, nothing about FX Collection 4...

Tha image of the package in JRRShop is the same for FX Collection 3, so... I think that is a mistake from JRRShop

"My Account" shows a $69 upgrade from FX Collection 3.  It seems the team that sets up the promotions got ahead of the team that puts content on their website.

  5. In order to do things in a plugin like search for a preset or save or rename a preset, you have to be able to type that in.

Unfortunately Cakewalk seems to impose an extra step on the user, that you need to first click on the keyboard icon in the plugin window to send keystrokes to the plugin.

Wouldn't it make sense to have Cakewalk assume that if you have just clicked your cursor in a text box, that you want your text going to the plugin?

Anyone who gripes Groove 3 doesn't have enough content hasn't really looked at their offerings.
Aside from tutorials on various DAWs they also have tutorials on playing jazz, blues, singing, guitar, piano, how to use a various soft synths and other VSTs, production techniques for various music styles, and more.
Anytime there's someone offering a free month or more of Groove 3 or a nice discount on their subscription it's worth grabbing.

Their Play-along series is great for the artists that they cover.   One chapter covering the main parts of the song, one part a play through where you can see the instructor playing along with the tab, and one part full "Music Minus One" mode.

Groove 3 is owned by Hal Leonard Publishing, so you have a huge collection of their instructional materials for a variety of instruments as well as songbooks.  Every week they add more.

  7. I definitely agree that it still is a bargain to get the update for $99 as opposed to just Kontakt for $49.  There is an awful lot that is included that I have already used.

However, I think the Play series tends towards filler.  I also think the expansions are as much trouble as they are worth if you don't have Maschine.  It's nice that they throw in presets for Battery, Massive, and whichever, but they don't install them in a directory where any of those programs normally look for presets.

  8. All I want from them is two things

    1.  Ability to rout midi input in browser to tracks.  Right now, if I try to audition a midi drum track in BW, it just plays a bunch of discordant sine wave tones.  It's not like this is rocket science, in fact Project 5 figured this out over 20 years ago.

    2.  Support audio input on the WASAPI drivers.

Is there any danger about getting flagged for copyright infringement (e.g. on YouTube) when using loops and your song sounds identical to someone else's?

I highly doubt that the algorithms were written to determine if any loop comes from a royalty free library.  Even if they were, google would have to invest in a lot of libraries to figure out that.  I would also guess that the algorithms are focused more on melodic content because otherwise they would have a ridiculous amount of claims generated.

  10. One of the things I like is the piano roll image in the pattern browser.  It's great because when you can see what the pattern looks like, you waste less time cycling through the patterns that don't look like what you want.

The marketing speak says you can import your own IRs. I have Waves IR plugin, but find it really clunky to use. Anyone know if you can import the Wave IR's, or do these developers typically keep everything proprietary so you can't share things cross platform?

Waves has their own proprietary format but not all IR providers do.  I think Melda uses standard wav files.   EchoThief does use some unique standard wav files but you need to use something like 7zip to extract them from the executable.  All the impulses in Reflektor are also standard wav.

  12. It's pretty much what you would expect it to be and has been pretty stable for me.

If I am remembering correctly, the impulses are proprietary, but they are not alone in that.

Also it would be nice if they had better preset organization.  It would be nice to be able to tag these with attributes such as the general type (hall, plate, special, etc) as well as which instruments to use.

Finally, once you purchase the full version you get a 20% discount going forward on all Rematrix preset packs.  This stacks with sales, so you will probably end up tempted to buy presets during Black Friday.  They also tend to throw in a few nice free packs every once in a while.
