@Will_Kaydo - make sure Cakewalk's data files, your projects/audio folder, and any samples folders are excluded from Windows Defender.

Personally, I also exclude all my VST directories too, but then I manually virus check any free VST's I use before doing this.

Yes,  thanks on the tip. I completely disabled it with the following steps.

    1: Open Start.

    2: Search for gpedit.

3: Under ADMINISTRATIVE TENPLATES: Browse the Windows component tab and click on Microsoft Defender Antivirus folder without expanding the tab. Information on the right side should pop up.

4: On the right window:  Double-click the "Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus policy."

5: Select the Enabled option to disable Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

    6: Click the Apply button.

    7: Click the OK button.

You are mistaken. Plugin categories have nothing to do with activation. The categories not showing properly were because the database couldn't load the data.  Cakewalk can be in a deactivated state and plugins will show fine.
What did you do to fix it. If you reinstalled that was what solved the issue not anything else.

So, this morning when I went into studio, switched everything on - I ran into the same issue again.

Here's the thing: this is a brand new 1TB SSD with a brand new install of Windows and so on. So I suspect this is a Windows Defender problem.

Completely disabled Window Defender permanently. Everything works fine again after a reinstall about 5 mins ago - since sending this feedback text.

    First time:2.thumb.png.e280d0c098fa494e01b04011ca48736d.png

Second time: on an empty project.

Tried to reinstall and this is what triggered my memory that WinDef might be the cause. Disabled it and it installed properly.

Just thought to give feedback on this issue / again - since it was solved 3/4 days ago and now happening again.

    SOLVED AGAIN.

Is it a glitch in a new update of Windows or Cakewalk?

Yes, there is. The latest optional KB Quality install, caused problems by me - it was slowing down my PC. As an Insider to Microsoft Windows I did report this and I wasn't the only one. It's even worse in the new 21H1 (Not out for release yet) and using 3.6GB of memory to run.

This might help you to locate or identify your problem. Read Here

I just downloaded Cakewalk fully updated, and I'm not getting any audio output. I recorded my voice once and I could hear that, now I can't, and I don't know how to fix it. I've watched a couple basic tutorials but I don't know what to do beyond listing the input and output as not "none." I'd appreciate the help so I can hear anything to make music!

    Your OUTPUTS can't be "None."

Set all your OUTPUTS to a master bus, by creating a BUS CHANNEL naming it "MASTER" (If your using an empty template) and route all other tracks through it.

    This is incorrect.

64 bit double precision floating point numbers are exactly the same in both 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems - they're both 64 bit structures.

This is not the same as 32 bit vs 64 bit address pointers which is what you were referring to in your earlier post.

Okay. Maybe I'm wrong OR maybe i'm being misunderstood. Either way, i see the same answer between what I said and your answer.

Beat me to it, Mark! And just to untangle a little further, the bit depth of the OS has nothing to do whatsoever with the sound of the audio files. It's two entirely separate things.

Oh - but it does. you need to read what I've said again, cause it expains itself.

Using Double Precision in a 32bit OS does not give you nearly as much of headroom as in a 64bit OS. Read carefully what I've said. This does not affect "Quality" but only headroom between the ceiling of the wave file (Dynamically.) You don't get nearly as much of headroom in 32bit as what you get in 64bit. Like Mark said it db thing. 750db (considered as infinite) over 1500db (also infinite)

Someone smarter than me should follow up and confirm my hypothesis regarding 64 bit Dbl Precision Engine....I do believe one must be working with 64-bit audio files for one to need 64 bit DPE engaged.

That is how I interpreted it's purpose.  ...-waiting for forum user tech person smarter than I to confirm and/or correct me--  until then, be excellent!

Not really. What all this mean is . . .

In a 32 bit OS you could only access to 4 GB of RAM for each process, and in 64bit that = 192 GB max (if I remember correctly.)

So, a 24 bit audio is exactly the same as a 32bit or  64 bit file, these numbers are for the memory address mapping of the OS, the audio is not affected in any form (other than adding headroom.) Internally, most modern DAW's work at 32 bit floating point.

Most well known producers will tell you: that they still prefer a 16/48khz audio file for all its grittiness it brings to the audio - over a 24bit file.

We can't even hear the difference between 32bit and 64bit. FWIW: This goes for "dithering" as well.

This subject is slowly attracting the same attention the "LOUDNESS WAR" did back in 08/09.

At the end of the day - its all about taste / and what works best for you at your disposal.

    Maybe.

I installed an old version and took it from there. Uninstall and re-installion of the 27.01.98 didn't fix it. I went 3 times through that. So I scoured my external for older versions came across a 26 build and that solved it. So i did an update through it.

Not sure why a clean install of the 27.01.98 through the B.A couldn't fix it.

I'm not sure what your post has to do with activation. In the video cakewalk is fully activated. You are getting a database error.
The most likely cause of that error message is either you don't have a good install or something on your system is blocking the database updater.
    Look in this folder C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Database\Updater
You should see 2 files there. Also there should be 3 dlls in this folder. C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Database

If you don't see that then something has removed those files on your PC and you will need to do a full installation again.

If it was activated assignable plugin categories would be available. This is exactly the same as when you're not signed in / it's not the 1st time i'm running into this.

As soon as you're activated Cakewalk opens up to full functionality and activates the assignable catergories.

Not to worry, I managed to sort this out yesterday already.

I could be wrong, but I think different people have different preferences, workflows, etc.  For me this includes personal efficiencies

    • One person might have great visual discrimination abilities that make it easy to spot a specific word or set of words in a field of 200-800 phrases. Another person might be overwhelmed by anything more than 20-50 items in a display.
    • One person might have great manual dexterity with the scroll wheel but have difficulties moving a mouse around a large area. Another person might find moving a mouse around to find and click on specific target areas repeatedly physically enjoyable and emotionally satisfying.
    • One person might work best with a plug-in browser that in all workspaces is in the same place and roughly the same size but not do well with huge multi-column lists that cover up the visual field. Someone else might find it personally efficient based on her or his dexterity, visual acuity, etc. to have multi-column lists open and close.

I don't doubt that some of you have different personal efficiencies, preferences, workflows, etc. than mine, but  feel it is going too far to claim that your personal efficiencies are universal.

What im actually saying is, on bigger monitors a single column list might be ideal as it projects more information to the user. However, on smaller monitors those that works on laptops without a dedicated monitor - (Personally) a multi-column list will suit the workflow much better.

The guy at the time I was collaborating with on a project when this topic popped up, actually brought the idea to front.

His word: Can't developers of every DAW think to add this as an option to cater for every workflow out there?

Maybe its just me, but I find looking for something specific in a box with 400 - 800 (or more) items arranged in multiple columns is not nearly as efficient as the current single column, searchable, hierarchically organized Browser.  For the benefit of those that prefer a flatbox box / sprawling list I can see having an optional button that would expand the Browser into a huge box that can easily open and close--so it doesn't block everything else.

With all respect: How is not having access to all you EQ's on one page, not quicker and having Instant access / over clicking 200 times to get to your favorite EQ at the bottom.

Completely the reverse: for all its faults, a scrolling (or dropdown) list is the most space efficient.

    LOL! WTF? 😂😂😂

😨 How is it that more effecient: When the evidence here clearly shows that a flatbed is more effecient than single scrolling column.

In fact: You're absolutely correct. Scrolling would be better IF IT WAS POSSIBLE, but it's click at the moment.

Absolutely no logic in what you've said. (With the most repect) Sorry.

Actually looking at your specs I'm wondering why you need to freeze anything? My computer is 1/4 or less the horsepower of yours and I have never had to freeze a synth? How many tracks you running?  Is your CPU meter showing it's maxed out?

freezing tracks is pretty much a standard practice. Irrespective of your systems specs.

    It's old habbits.

  14. I cant activate cakewalk. It activates it, but as soon as I close it and open it again the activation get's lost. 27.01.98

My previous hardrive crashed yesterday. So i took this time to get a SSD 1TB so everything is from scratch, yet this happens.
