hmmm. if i add the powerkit with either the instrument per output mono or the all synth outputs mono, i'm only seeing "1" as the number choice, but "max available is checked.

and either way i'm only getting the maximum number of tracks.

    image.png.362f0559a2141f68551558acfddb3b54.png

maybe this only happens when you do an add track versus insert soft synth?

    image.png.92706925f31f0daa2057edad799e9720.png

and it generates the 16 instrument tracks, same as the insert soft synth dialog. i'm definitely not seeing 256 tracks being generated 🙂

Split it!!!  And if this was about the browser insert I wouldve made the Topic about the brower Insert. No where in my images attached is a browser correct? So why you bring that into this? Focus on the insert spoken of.

Split the instrument outputs Glen. Then you will get that 272 I believe it will give you - and I know I've said 256 when the image shows the instrument Outputs.

The point is: It shouldnt choose these amount automatically. The user is suppose to choose him/herself - as mentioned in the OP. Also when choosing Mono it should only give 1 insert of Mono or the required amount of insert made by the user. The default number of tracks should be 1 upon selecting | and | not 16! This was explained clearly above.

So im gona say it again: If and when an insert is made - only the required insert number of tracks chosen by the user, should be added with the output - not multiplying it.

This whole thing is about when inserting either Instrument per output or Split outputs. The number of tracks should start at 1 NOT 16 or 12  or 8 or 4. Default number of tracks should start at 1 irrespective of the output chosen.

So here's the question that will expose my extreme newbieness (if it wasn't already evident): Audio tracks can only record in mono. But I don't have the ability to pick the L or R channel here. Do I have the ability to switch this audio track to the L or R channel later in the process? I'm think the answer is yes.

    Thank you once again.

Your CODEC 1 is your L input and the CODEC 2 your R. They correspond with the Input 1 (Mic input - L)  and Input 2 (Guitar Input - R)  on your interface.

    You can rename it.

Yes. You can Pan them L-R too.

I think theres a misunderstanding here. The instructions i gave was Mic specific.

Turn your Realtek Audio Device on in Asio4All for guitars. That should work.

Also make sure you plugged in on the right input of the Interface.

Input 1 on the interface is for Mic and Input 2 for guitars.

so, if you have 16 outputs on the instrument and you select instrument track per output, you don't want 16 you want 1? but if you want 4 you would go to the # control and enter 4?

Yes and No. Cakewalk shouldn't choose the output NUMBER OF TRACKS for us.

What its doing right now: It multiply the NUMBER OF TRACKS on the output within it itself - 16×16 and adds in 256 tracks. Which I dont get.

It shouldn't do this and the default tracks should always be "1." When selecting Mono/Stereo outs. When selecting 1 track of Mono outputs per instrument it should force the stereo channel to mono - basically just switching the interleave of the insert to mono.

    To be clear:

Something I have requested a few times: I don't use the browser to insert effects or instruments. I dont like it, nor do I have inspector open. I only use it for samples in a floating window.

So having the option to insert a "Mono instrument channel plugin" with the interleave already in Mono from the Menu above would be great. This goes hand-in-hand with What is Question in the OP.

I know it sounds like a request. I first wana put this out as a Q&A to see if im the only one Questioning this law of insert.

or perhaps another piece of software requesting access to the mic and thus blocking Cakewalk. No other programs are open but this might be happening behind the scenes?

Yes. Seeing that you're using Behringer - it doesn't come with dedicated drivers. So what you also need to check is your "Mic Settings in Windows Sound Control Panel.

Right click on the Speaker icon on your Taskbar, Select Sound Settings and "Sound Control Panel" on the next window. There you will find a "Recording Tab" to your Mic Settings. Make sure your Mic is enabled and selected as "Default" and in Asio4All.

  6. I just made an insert of a drum instrument (forgetting the rules) and it inserted +100 tracks. 😧

Question: Shouldn't the "INSTRUMENT TRACK PER OUTPUT" follow the rule of insert . . . when selecting Mono? By only changing the interleave?

Right now: If you change the outputs to MONO it multiplies the inserts by the number of tracks you want to it. This is not suppose to be happening.

It is not suppose to choose the number of track for you. The user is suppose to choose that him/herself - like how it works with choosing "MAIN OUTPUTS."

If I only want 4 mono tracks out of 1 insert, it should only insert 4 - not multiplying the outputs by 4 | or | by the number of outputs the instrument plugin has. Irrespective if its a Mono or Stereo insert.

Choosing Mono outputs should only give a Mono insert, basically just forcing the interleave to mono and starting with insert default insert at 1.

    Insert.jpg.8ab15dc71ff07e699c48522e4f3f2adb.jpg

It shouldn't even apply to "Split Instrument Track."

Honestly, that is subjective depending on whether you prefer seeing stereo or mono first. I like the bold text but currently it isn’t easy to do. When we switch to the new menuing system in the future we can consider it.

I understand. When we do go there: can an option like that be added too? Giving the user the option to choose, if he/she wants the mono outputs first or last?

Hi! Unfortunately my username is ironic at the moment.

    I have:

    • UMC-22 audio interface
    • Cakewalk version 2021.06
    • ASIO4ALL
    • Windows 10
    • Realtek sound card

Unfortunately I can't record audio tracks as Cakewalk isn't receiving any input signal.

My signal icon lights up on the audio interface when I play my guitar, so I'm all good up to that point. I can also hear playback of my previously recorded MIDI tracks fine through my headphones, which are plugged into the audio interface, so I know the audio interface and computer are connected (mostly) talking to each other.

However that's as far as I've got - the input signal bar doesn't light up when I arm the track and play the guitar.

I've attached some images - all advice and suggestions are gratefully appreciated! You would make my day!

    Thanks

The output on the right (Master A) is playing the other tracks, the green signal bar is lit up, but when I play the instrument in Channel 9 (labelled 'Bass audio') I get nothing on the left hand input:
    cakewalk-signal.png

Everything looks fine. You might want to select the Mono Outputs (tick boxes) in the send image too | and | bring the channel you want to record on to focus - by just clicking on it to highlight it.

I’ve made a few tweaks to the port naming logic for the next update.

    • When friendly names are used it will no longer show the generated prefixes and leave it upto the user to name them appropriately.
    • The I/O channels are now only shown in the menu and not in the actual port name field to make the name even more compact. (it will be shown in the tooltip)
    • The channel display in menus now separates the channel from the port name text from the driver more clearly by using columns
    • You can choose to display the I/O channel information as a prefix or suffix to the port names showin in the menu.

Hopefully these changes should make it even more useful. Regarding arbitrary ordering of ports, while its technically possible it would be quite complicated since we already have abstraction for ports because you can already choose to disable channels that are not in use. Adding reordering on top of that would make my head explode ;)

Sorry to revist this Noel. Not sure if i'm suppose to create my own Topic in feedback for this, but seeing that here is a thread open on this - I thought to add it here.

Can we reorganize the menu too in the next up coming updates? I've put some examples together.

I have been always at war with the panning logic! Lately it caught my eye when I was panning a mono wave clip a tiny bit and it suddenly clipped, although I knew that the wave file did not (even if it was a bit too hot)! First I thought there is something wrong in CbB, but then I realized that it was the panning logic. When I panned back to center the gain was okay.

But I wonder whether it is good like that? How was it with a hardware mixer? I can't remember! Thus my question: Does anybody know how is the panning logic in a hardware mixer compared to a DAW? Does it also suddenly boost the signal if you just pan a little bit?

Interesting topic. The Pan Law and Pan Rule discussion can be confusing indeed. What you need to understand is - like Monitors: Each mixer, sounded | and | was/is build "differently" from Vendor-to-Vendor - so each one had their own law to it. After all: at the end of the day, it comes down to what works best for you - SERIOUSLY! So, understanding this will help.

This link attached will help you a lot. Before you read though, make sure your Pan Law Compact Mode is set to FALSE under Audio Tab in Configuration File| and | that you have "0db Center, balance control" in Driver Settings. This will keep your loudness constant in both Left and Right channels in the stereo field.

    Read here: Great article.

  11. Also ran into this one time. I didn't have to uninstall anything. I just went into my driver settings - lowered the sample rate, applied it and changed it back to the previous setting.

Not sure if its windows changing it at power-off | OR | at startup as a "SAFETY" precaution?

Certain streaming platforms also change driver settings automatically during a stream where windows locks it as a safety render/streaming sample rate.

I have learned to check my sample rates first thing before I create/record anything.

Right, they are all mono tracks. This is a mix project so the 4 audio tracks (Bass, AG, EG, Vox and BV were imported into mono tracks. The AG, Vox and BV tracks were duplicated. The problem I have is that Tracks 18 & 19 (Vox 1 & 2) have switched from mono to stereo (the clip is mono but the track processing is stereo). So I have mono clips being processed in stereo. I want to switch the mono/stereo toggle back to mono but it won't switch. See the GIF below. When I click the mono/stereo switch for either the Vox 1 or Vox 2 tracks, the mono symbol momentarily appears but the stereo symbol returns when I release the button. However on the BV track I can toggle the mono/stereo switch. My question is what do I need to do to switch the tracks back to mono? What I hope I don't need to do is delete and re-insert plugins because of the need to create presets to restore settings and redraw automation.

Is the interleave going back to stereo by itself?

Have you tried the "Flat White" theme from Colin Nicholls? Looks awesome and minimalistic, although ist a bright theme.

All due respect. This thread is a facelift request, not a theme request.

Sorry. I corrected my response. I see your point. I agree having a way to use Quick Groups and double-click to zero multiple fader or rotary controls would be helpful. CTRL+ Double-click currently zeros the control clicked and moves the rest of the group a relative amount. Redefining CTRL + Double-click to do to a Quick Group what double-click does to a single control makes sense to me.

Watch those GIFs again. The control with the highest value is first CTRL + dragged to zero or minus infinity and released moving all quick grouped controls to the lowest value. Then CTRL+ Double-click on any of the now identically set controls moves all controls to zero. So it's a two step process but it works for Gain and Fader, but I tried it for Pan and it doesn't seem to work.  See GIF below. When I select the Pan knob in the group furthest right and drag it left the other Pan knobs stop moving as soon as the one not being dragged furthest left reaches 100% left. That response seems different than that for the Gain and Fader controls. Is that a bug, intended operation, or am I doing something wrong?

    iSowz5a.gif

Honestly don't know if it's bug | OR | intended. The point of the request is: to have reset to 0db just by ctrl+double click without dragging.

Now watch my video carefully on the gains. Look at their different values.

So your complaint is you want to double-click rather than click and drag?

Complaint? Where do you see one?

    There's a difference between a Complaint and a Request

But to answer, yep - exactly that. All need to reset to 0db without extra things being done. With gain, the drag and click dont work at all. It only resets similar values to 0db and the rest in + value differences.

I created an aux track and then decided I didn't need it at all. I deleted the tracks, but the associated new Patch Point still shows up in the input/output list. How can I delete it from the project?

This should be a request on deleting it in one go.

I hate having to go back in to it to remove it.

  17. Can we get Cakewalk to reset different volume/gain and pan values to 0dB simultaneously, with the CTRL+FADER/GAIN/PAN-POTS DOUBLE CLICK command key - when tracks are highlighted in pairs/groups, or all.
