  1. My experience with Sweetwater has not been good.  As a matter of fact, I purposely try to avoid them because of my experiences.  When I first purchased from them, I was assigned a "Sales Engineer" whose sole purpose seemed to try to upsell me.  In addition, he (quite honestly) didn't know a thing about synths (and I'm a synth guy).   It didn't really matter much to me, as I do my own research.    A year or two later, my wife and I decided to take a little vacation and head to Cedar Point in Ohio, then head to Nebraska for a few days.  I had heard amazing things about the place, so I talked my wife into driving a few hours out of the way to stop by.  I made contact with my SE, and we set a time for me to visit.  I reconfirmed with him the day before.

We arrived at the appointed time, and went in and asked the receptionist for him.  She told me that he wasn't there, and should be back in a bit.   I wasn't really happy, but  I figured something may have come up, and he would be back.  We waited around for two hours, just sitting on our thumbs.  No one else there bothered to say anything to us, apologize, or anything.  I was pissed.   We finally just left.

I emailed him that night, and the next day I received an email back from him that said he forgot.  No apology, nothing.   A few weeks later, I tracked down someone else at Sweetwater and asked for a new SE.  This guy was not happy that I was asking for someone else, even though I expressed all my issues with "my guy."

Since that time, I've been bounced around to a handful of SEs, and not a one of them has really taken any interest.

Like I said, I purposely avoid Sweetwater if possible.

And when playing these instruments (in realtime) you don't get more audio drop-outs/perf meter spikes compared to C11?

If you answer no, are you using MIDI Remote?

    Sorry for all the questions...

No, and no on Midi Remote.

I bought the first volume. Interesting concept! But orchestration is really only intended to make a good song sound better.

    Keep trying! :)

You might try to find an available MIDI score of a well known song. Load that into your DAW and play around with orchestration using that. Should remove the writing and arranging pressure, until you are ready to apply the technique to your own creations...

What they are really good for (for me) is really teaching me how to use a specific library.

OK, I have all this midi, I'll use 8Dio strings - this is how to make them sound correct.  Now, I'll change to Cinematic Studio, this is what I have to do with CSS.  Etc.

I have all 3.  I’ve completed zero hahah.  But that’s my fault.  These are highly recommended on vi-control and other very critical forums.  All three are on sale for $30 each. Regular price $49 each.

I have the first two volumes, and I've completed two recipes.... both of which sound like crap.

  5. As seen from the comments above, this is not for everyone.  I actually love it - great concept, good execution.  Clearly, one has had the ability to preview midi files on a computer since when - 1987?  This implementation, however, is so much more than that.  This is a great companion to a sample manager, and also includes other utilities.

Sarine is right - this product is symptomatic of capitalism - innovation is encouraged, and products and companies rise or fall on their quality.  (I love capitalism.  :) )

Does anyone know what has happened to Gothic Instruments and support for these Dronar modules?

Shortly before Time and Space went under I received an update to Dronar Guitarscapes from T&S but there are some issues with the update, and I cannot find any Gothic Instruments website.

See this VI Thread for info regarding Gothic.

  7. Well, I got my survey for my Steinberg ticket.  I really let them have it.  I let them have it for me, for Larry, and the for everyone else they've screwed in the past two weeks.
