Are you setting the Buffers high enough? What are the processer specs on the Surface pro, possibly just not enough for the projects?

Also are you using effects on the tracks?  That can quickly bring a Whimpey computer to it's knees'.

Don't know about setting the buffers.  I've never done that in the past.  What should I set them to?

And what about if it's just audio on the MS Surface?

Not sure what you mean by audio on the Surface.  The audio is running through the Presonus digital interface.

  2. When creating projects (.cwp) I use my main beefy PC computer and a Focusrite Scarlett 212 interface.  My projects contain both .mid and .wav files.  Playing the .cwp works flawlessly using my beffy PC computer and Scarlett 212.

When performing live I use a Microsoft Surface with a Presonus AUDIOBOX USB96 interface.  Playing the .cwp stutters when project contains both .wav and .mid files when using Presonus AUDIOBOX USB96.  If the project just contains .mid files there is no stuttering.

    What am I missing here?

I think your saving as a Midi file. You need to use Normal file format CWP to create projects. Midi files only save the data and the TTS_1 is Cakewalks default to play midi files.

A lot of this I covered in the midi tutorials. which are here on my new playlist. Scroll down to around the 9th video where I start explaining midi stuff.

    The link doesn't work.

And also thinking about what you said about playing Cakewalk live, Have you tried the Playlist feature?  That's what it's for. It manages the different projects for you and loads them up while the last one is playing.    You can play both hardware and software instruments at the same time as well as have audio tracks. That's what I do so there's no weirdness. I use all audio tracks.  In over 2 decades of live gigs audio has never failed me. Midi can have issues. Midi 2.0 promises to fix that however.

Yes, I use the Playlist feature all the time when performing live.  It's great.  I didn't realize that I could use projects in the PlayList feature.  I thought it was only MIDI.  I've also been using MIDI since it's inception many many years ago.  I used to perform with racks of keyboards, drum machines and sound modules all connected via MIDI to a sequencer.  Only in the past few years have I downsized and use Bandlab Cakewalk through a single Yamaha MU100 sound module.  It's been working great!  I've never experienced any issues with MIDI so am not clear what issues you are referring to.

  5. Hopefully this is not a stupid question.

When I create and save a .mid file with different tracks using different VST instruments and open it back up into Bandlab Cakewalk all instruments default to the TTS instruments even though I am not using TTS instruments.  When I create the .mid file there is no track with Cakewalk TTS however, when I open up the saved .mid file there is a new blank track always with Cakewalk TTS and all the different tracks are playing through TTS.

I've been using Bandlab Cakewalk in live performances and running it through a Yamaha MU100 sound GM module.  However, I would like to use the VST instruments I have in Bandlab Cakewalk instead and run it directly through my digital interface into the PA.  But if it keeps defaulting to Cakewalk TTS instead of the VST instruments I've assigned to each MIDI track instead.

Is it not possible to save a .mid file with the assigned VST instruments to each track and play as a .mid file without it being saved as a Cakewalk file?  Or, am I going about this the wrong way?

Thanks  for any and all help :)

  6. I am trying to export my latest project.  The progress bar instantly starts at 50% and just stays there.  The Windows mouse spinner also just keeps spinning.  Windows Task Manager shows not issues with Cakewalk nor does Windows Event Viewer.  I am running Windows 11 with all current updates and  28.11.0.21 version of Bandlab Cakewalk.

    This is frustrating!!

    any help is much appreciated.

If it were me, I'd use the replace synth command.  We now have the option of replacing it on just the current instrument track or on all instrument tracks that use a specific synth.

    • Replace Synth For All Tracks Using This Synth...
    • Replace Synth on This Track Only...

I generally use this from the right-click context menu in the track header pane.

Update: I just tried and the replace for all tracks commands didn't work for me. So I tried it again and the option to replace all tracks wasn't there.  Just tried it again and now I only get the single Replace Synth... option.

I've never seen either option.  Where are these located?

  8. Is there a way to remove all track instrument patches at one time?  I have a MIDI file that is defaulting to TTS on all channels.  I want to replace all the instruments and not use TTS.  Is there a way to remove TTS on all the channels, still leaving the MIDI data so I can replace each track with a different instrument?  Hopefully I am explaing this well.

    Thanks

The Track Control Manager drop down is at the top of the Track Pane in the Track View. If you don't see it, you might need to change your Workspace (upper right corner) from Basic to Advanced (or None which is my preference).

You may find it easier to just go to the Track Inspector (shortcut I) rather than adjusting the Track Control Manager and track header size to be able to see all the controls. Here's documentation on track controls for all track types; very basic and essential stuff you should get to know:

    https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Playback.20.html

    Got it!  Thanks

  10. I am at a loss here.  I have a MIDI track that is playing on MIDI channel 1 as a piano using TTS-1.  I've copied the the MIDI track to a new track and have edited to keep only certain notes that I want to play on MIDI channel 11 as a brass patch.

The issue I am facing is the track that I want to play on MIDI channel 11 still plays on MIDI channel 1 instead of 11 and still plays the edited part with the TTS-1 piano patch.

How do i make this happen?

    Thanks

  11. As of this morning, when I open any stand alone MIDI file in Cakewalk, instead of it playing through my Focusrite 2i2 it plays through the computer soundcard and speakers.  This was working just fine yesterday when I was working on a MIDI file.  Under Preferences it does show the device as Focusrite.

The thing that escapes me is that when I open up a project I've been working that contains both .wav and .mid files they play just fine through my Focusrite as expected.

Also, when I go into Windows Sound and tell it to use the Focusrite, when I play a MIDI file it does indeed play through the Focusrite however, instead of playing instruments through Cakewalk TTS, it plays through MIcrosoft GS Wavetable Synth.

    I'm stumpted...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  12. I fixed the issue.  After downloading 2022.11 and trying to install unsuccessfuly by clicking on INSTALL from within Cakewalk, I ran the install straight from the .exe downloaded in my DOWNLOAD folder.  It installed successfully with no issues.

    Thanks

If you're installing the new update, you should have an installer called Cakewalk_by_BandLab_Update_Setup_28.11.0.013.exe. If you're on the 2022.09 update, this installer will run to get you to the current version. If not, then it sounds like there's a discrepancy with the version checking on your system.

This is happening on all 4 of my PCs with 2022.09 installed.    And yes, the downloaded installed is called Cakewalk_by_BandLab_Update_Setup_28.11.0.013.exe.  With that said, how do I fix this issue?

    Thanks

If you go to your C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\Cakewalk folder, what is the most recent installer version you have in there?

    Same as what I mentioned.  2022.9 (Build 027, 64bit).

So, how do I fix this in order to install 2022.11?  Or is there some issue with this version that is causing this?

    Thanks

  15. I received the update notice (Update available 2022.11) when I launched Cakewalk this morning.  However, when I attempt to install it I get a message that says:

This installer requires Cakewalk by Bandlab version 2022.06

My current version is 2022.9 (Build 027, 64bit).

    How do i fix this?

    Thanks!

  16. So, I am now back again with this question.  I never got it to work prior so I just redid the MIDI track.  However, now I would like to reduce the volume of just the Snare drum in a drum track.  I select the drum number on the left hand side in PRV and it selects the snare only.  I then play with the VEL on the left hand side which is currently set to 100%.  No matter what I reduce that percentage to there is no difference in the volumne of the Snare drum.  What am I missing?

    Thanks

UPDATE:  Nevermind... I figured it out.
