  1. This is pretty amazing. No hiding behind gain and disto, I'd say. Ladies and gents, Steve Morse back in the day:
  2. Allan Holdsworth - Metal Fatigue: A perfect solo for me.
  3. Glad to hear I'm not going senile here (yet). 😂 I could get it to happen for tracks in the Track View as well, but I think it was when selecting nodes with lassoing them with the right button. Not as certain to happen there as for the buses. Maybe it's only with my workflow, but a bit annoying still. Removing the plugin focus when left/right clicking in the envelope area would solve this quite nicely, I think. I didn't try deleting the selected nodes from the context menu - it might leave the plugin intact that way. But, as said, I like using the keyboard...
  4. Had to check it out right away, so here's an exact sequence: Go to a bus in the Track View Select an automation envelope from the menu at the top of the bus pane so it becomes editable (the automation lanes are not open here) Click a plugin in the FX bin, leave the UI open or close it (the white focus brackets remain around the plugin label in the FX Bin) Select automation envelope nodes, either with the left or right mouse button Press Delete on the keyboard The plugin with the focus brackets is now gone from the FX Bin. If the envelope is not for that particular plugin, the nodes you thought you'd delete, remain. If the envelope was for the said plugin, the envelope goes with the plugin. It's not an intermittent thing, happens every time with this sequence. Seems to happen in the Track side as well, especially when you select envelope nodes by lassoing then with the right mouse button. If I remove the focus from the plugins in the FX Bin prior to pressing Delete, the peration only deletes the nodes. Unfortunately I tend to often open, say, a bus compressor UI and then start editing the threshold automation. Deleting any node with delete zaps the compresseor as well from the FX Bin, if I'm not careful. 😁
  5. Btw, this is with the current CbB, not the new Sonar. Happened to me again yesterday. I'll try to come up with the exact sequence where it happens. Of course undo brings the plugin back, but sometimes, in the heat of the battle, you might not notice.
  6. This would be a fix request for this scenario: Click on a plugin in the FX Bin to open the plugin UI - the white selection brackets appear around the plugin - close the plugin UI The plugin still has the focus in the FX Bin Select nodes on an active automation envelope Press Delete to delete the nodes The nodes get deleted from the envelope, but so does the plugin that has the focus in the FX Bin Removing the plugin focus when nodes get selected for an atomation envelope would prevent this from happening. Of course also switching keyboard focus only to the envelope, if it has a concept of "being focused", would work.
  7. While we're at it: Please put the keyboard focus into the search field, when opening the Browser! It would be nice at least when opening the Browser with the keyboard. It's been a few times I've typed B to open the Browser and then immediately started to write a search term. But, since the focus is not in the search field, all kinds of weird s*it happens because of Cake interpreting the keystrokes as command shortcuts. 😬 I use the keyboard as much as possible, so this would be a nice fix.
  8. Or hit the X key twice (or whatever key you have Aim Assist bound to). The first press cleans up the remnants of it from the screen and the second turns it on, but does not show it.
  9. Use it to record my own music and music with friends. Also for mixing and mastering those projects, as well as "external projects" for whomever. Solely on a hobbyist basis, though One use is also transcribing guitar and other stuff by strecthing clips to slow them down with no pitch change, and trying to understand what the hell is happening.
  10. Yeah, one would imagine that, if the graphics now are SVG or suh scalable vector thingies...
  11. I wonder what the Theme Editor will be like... I would imagine it needs a major overhaul as well, if they're gone from raster to vector graphics.
  12. If you want to throw in the bucks, you could get something like iZotope's Neutron 4. It has the Visual mixer which can find some kind of initial balance between your tracks. It can also suggest basic settings for each track's EQ, compression and whatnot. Then you can also use the Unmask module to carve space for important tracks in tracks that have a supporting role. This is still quite a bit of clicking and making settings, and knowing what to go for. Neutron won't be able to set up your mix all by itself, but it sure can help.
  13. I started getting clicks and pops in exports when there were enough Waves plugin instances in the project. Using real time rendering was one solution, but disabling plugin load balancing really made the issue go away. Could be worth trying.
  14. How would I go about backing up the installer of the CbB version I'm currently using? Come the last free CbB version update, I'll surely want to back up the installer, in case it becomes unavailable later. Just trying to be on the safe side here; I'm almost 100% sure I'll hop on the new Sonar bandwagon and will not have to worry about old version backups. I've only ever user Cakewalk in its different incarnations (from '94) and don't really want to go anywhere else.
  15. Out of habit, I add Start and End markers to the project. Then I just select those in the Advanced export view. I also always export from my Master bus, and do not use any of the "Entire song...", or "What you hear..." etc. options. A few more clicks, but usually always the end result I'm going for. It would actually be nice to be able to have special Start and End markers, that the export would know about and you could export with them. I've saved the export setups (or whatever they are called), but for some reason they don't always follow changes made to the project.
  16. I think a keyboard nudge feature for selected automation nodes would also be good. We could have different dB nugde values for small. mid and big nudges.
  17. Please add the wave editor commands to clip context menu as well. I hate to reach up to the main menu for it, which is quite often.
  18. I think you can also select RX Monitor as the output for the RX Editor app, add the RX Monitor plugin to a bus (or track) in Cakewalk. Then RX will output audio to the plugin instance in Cakewalk. This way the RX audio output will be through whatever plugins you use in the DAW, and can also "share" the ASIO driver.
  19. I can get quite far mixing with my RME UCX at 48 samples with many tracks and plugins, until buffer size increase becomes necessary - usually because of more "buffer hungry" plugins or just more plugin instances. With Cakewalk, that is.
  20. A good idea! Another option could be that when you hover the mouser cursor on the dB scale, a horizontal line could be displayed on the waveform at the location of the cursor tip. A bit like like Aim Assist. You could then position the horizontal line at whatever dB level you want and the display would be less cluttered as there would only be one line (or two, if a line is displayed for the corresponding negative dB value as well).
  21. I have to admit I've grown alarmingly dependent on the Scheps Omni Channel channel strip plugin. It's working great otherwise, but the EXT SC (= sidechaining) controls are never enabled. Why wouldn't it be working? I have the latest EA version of Cake and the latest version of Omni Channel as well (V14). It's also VST3. It's been like that with many earlier Cake versions, when I've tried. Other manufacturer sidechains work just fine...
  22. I managed to watch it, but then all of a sudden it went private. Also got the plugin myself - sounds quite nice actually, judging from a quick test.
  23. First two, three weeks are the worst. When I finally kicked the habit I was ready to receive whatever blows to get rid of it. No nicotine patches or gum, no more coffee drinking, no excessive eating. Just try to manage and do whatever needed to do to get through the days. Whatever else, but no smoking. And, trying to do stuff that gets your mind off of the thing. Next January it will be 22 years for me without the cancer sticks. It has definitely gotten easier now. 😂 Have smoked a few ciggies at parties since, but it seems I sometimes long for the event of smoking more than the substance. You can do it, but don't expect it to be nice in any way. A little amount of masochistic tendency might help here.
  24. Normally in Windows you can press Alt + Space to activate the window menu. After that you can type M, which places the window into move state. Then you can move the window with the arrow keys, and by moving the mouse without any mouse clicks. Unfortunately Cakewalk seems to have that key combo bound, and I couldn't unbind it (or didn't know how). If you really could unbind that key press, you could open the FX view, type Alt + Space, M, and then arrow-key-surf the FX window into view.
  25. This bugs me too. You can make the "Aim Assist stain" disappear by pressing the X key twice (if you have Aim Assist bound to that key press), I noticed. But still, it would be nice not having to do that.
