  1. Not sure how useful this is but thinking it might be awesome if run on a touch sensitive screen to control things...
While designed for use with Airwave V3 for Omnisphere there's no reason (that i see) that it can't be used for other purposes - see Advanced features below...

    https://github.com/getdunne/modmate

    MIDI Mod-Mate

    Direct downloads: http://getdunne.net/download/modmate/

This is a MIDI effect (can be inserted in the MIDI effects slot of Apple Logic Pro X) to provide a very basic MIDI "macro" capability.

I developed this specifically for use with Airwave V3 for Omnisphere, a pair of sound libraries for Spectrasonics Omnisphere developed by Belgian DJ and sound designer Laurent Véronnez (aka Airwave) and John "Skippy" Lemkuhl aka PlugInGuru.com.

The Airwave V3 sound libraries are unique in that four distinct MIDI CCs (continuous controllers) can be used to affect the sound in real-time:

    CC#1 (mod wheel)

    CC#2 (breath controller)

    CC#4 (foot controller)

    CC#67 (soft pedal)

For the very best experience, you should use a hardware MIDI controller which provides multiple MIDI CCs, preferably in the form of touch sliders, as on the excellent Maschine JAM, or Sonic Logic 3 for iPad. For people who are not yet ready or able to buy these very nice hardware MIDI systems, I created this very simple plug-in, which lets you at least get started with Airwave V3, using just the standard controls available on nearly all MIDI keyboards: pitch bend and mod wheel.

    Using the ModMate plug-in (basic)
    modmate.png

The four large rectangles on the right of the GUI show the output levels for MIDI CC's 1, 2, 4, and 67 (top to bottom). The six narrow vertical rectangles on the left show the input levels (from your MIDI controller) for pitch-bend up (pbUp), pitch-bend down (pbDn), and mod wheel (modW), as well as MIDI CCs 2, 4, and 67 (ignore these if your MIDI controller has only pitch and mod wheels). To the right of each of these indicator strips are four checkboxes; checking any box connects that input to the corresponding CC output. Try it; it's easier to use than to explain.

If you don't check any of an input control's four destination boxes, the control's data will be passed through the plug-in unchanged, so you can use that control normally.

If your DAW supports it, your selections on all the checkboxes can be saved as a preset, and will normally be saved automatically as part of the track settings in a saved project. This has been tested with the Mac AU version in Logic Pro X and with the VST version in Reaper 64-bit.

    Advanced features

You can click/drag in any of the vertical indicators on the left, and the plug-in will respond as though you had operated the corresponding input CC, and will generate CC output messages for whichever output CCs are checked for that input. You can also click/drag in any of the horizontal indicators on the right, and the plug-in will generate the corresponding output CC messages. In both cases, the indicator (and CC output) will snap back to zero when you release the mouse button.

You can double-click any of the colored slider labels (not pbUp or pbDn) to change the corresponding MIDI CC number. You may type any number between 1 and 127; you don't have to put "cc" at the start, but it's OK if you do. You must press Enter to confirm the change. Note CC#1 will always display as "modW" because MIDI CC #1 is the standard mod wheel.

If you have a MIDI controller with knobs or sliders pre-assigned to MIDI CC numbers other than those used by the Airwave V3 libraries, you'll want to change the input CC numbers along the top of the plug-in window, to whatever CC's your controller outputs.

If you're using ModMate with an software instrument or library which is set up to respond to MIDI CCs other than what the Airwave V3 libraries use, you'll want to change the output CC numbers to the left of each large horizontal indicator.

If your DAW supports it, your MIDI CC assignments can be saved/restored in presets, along with the checkbox settings.

  2. If you haven't rebooted your computer since the problem first occurred reboot your system now, then do a full VST Rescan.
Sometimes the VST Scanner gets stuck and if that is part of the problem until you kill the process or reboot things won't change.

To perform a full VST Rescan:

    1. Go to Edit > Preferences > File - VST Settings.

    2. Under Scan Options, select Re-scan Existing Plug-ins and Re-scan Failed Plug-ins, then click Reset.

    3. The following confirmation message appears: “This will reset configuration settings for all your VST plug-ins to defaults. VST Plug-ins will be unavailable until a VST Scan is performed. Any custom configuration settings will be lost. Are you sure you want to do this?”

    4. Click Yes.

    5. Click Scan.

The background VST scanner scans your list of plug-ins. When scanning is complete, you can reapply any custom settings to your plug-ins.

Note: After performing a full VST rescan, clear the Rescan Failed Plug-ins and Rescan Existing Plug-ins check boxes, especially if Automatic Background Scan is selected. Leaving all of these options configured simultaneously can lead to a continuous scan loop.

  3. Another thread got me thinking about arpeggiators.
I realized that the ones I have are bound to a particular synth or sampler library and most can't export the MIDI pattern of what they're playing which can make it a hassle if you want to enhance the part (let's say double a part with another instrument) or change the instrument.  Yeah you might be able to use Melodyne and convert the audio to MIDI but that's a lot more work/hassle than just using something that can generate the MIDI patterns (arpeggios, chords, strums, finger picking or whatever) in the first place.

These are what I found. List is in alphabetical order.
Unless noted the following are only arpeggiators.

Arp4midi by xoxos (Windows) - free!

ArpLite2 by SynArp (Windows) - free!

BlueARP by Oleg Mikheev (Mac, Windows) - free!

Cakewalk FX Arpeggiator - MIDI FX plugin comes with Cakewalk/Sonar.

Cthulhu by Xferrecords (Mac, Windows) $39   >> Arpeggiator, Chord analyzer & generator

hypercyclic by mucoder (Linux, Mac, Windows) - free!

Kirnu by Arto Vaarala (Mac, Windows) - free!

Kirnu Cream by Kirnuarp (Mac, Windows, iPad) - €35 >>standalone/plugin versions, chords as well as arpeggio patterns, ...

midiChords by VST4Free (Mac, Windows) - free! >> Chords & basic strumming, imports Cubase/Nuendo Chorder .xml presets, ...

Obelisk by FrozenPlain (Mac, Windows) - $25 >> Chords generator only

RandARP by CodeFN42 (Windows) - free!

Riffer by audiomodern (Mac, Windows) - €49 >> random melody/pattern generator. Not really an arpeggiator but can (kinda) be used as one.

I haven't used any of these so have no personal comments other than Cthulhu and BlueARP seem to have the most positive buzz online.

Feel feel to comment about what you use and your experiences good or bad.

  4. I'm probably not the best source of info but...

Songwise I'm not really into strumming.
I mainly use these kind of libraries for playing melody lines or playing arpeggios.
The couple of times I needed a more complex 'finger picking' I already had specific patterns in mind and wrote the MIDI out manually.   A bit of APITA but handy for long repetitive patterns or doubling (2 different guitars panned hard L & R).

I've been thinking of trying Cthulu or something similar to see if that could generate usable patterns but haven't gotten around to it.

If I do chords they tend to be simple ones, R-R-5 or triads, played as accents for example on the 2 & 4th beat.  If I'm looking for something more complex I'll usually just break out a guitar and play it.

Lol at PA, looks like they got it rigged.

When I add any cheap item  to cart with $99 item(s) or vice versa the cart dumps other items.
Looks like 2nd item has to be $29 or higher.

Edit: NM when I went to purchase 2nd item reappeared in my cart...

The regular price is $39, but we've decided to set a lower price for a few days, not announce it anywhere, and see what happens. Just a little experiment. Don't know how long it will last.

A guitar with personality and character. Most people sample the nicest guitar they can get their hands on, but we went for the most interesting. This is over 10000 samples of a Defil Tarantella electric guitar made in Poland in 1972, which is a lot like those cheesy old Japanese and Italian electrics of the 1960s, but even weirder. We sampled it as a 6-string, as a 12-string, in Nashville tuning, and both electrically and acoustically. This is basically the ultimate quirky indie guitar, and a terrible guitar for death metal unless you're making death metal ironically.

    Key features:

Three articulations: pluck, hammer-on and harmonic

Plucks sampled with 3 velocity layers

All articulations sampled with 4 round robins in regular tuning, 3 round robins in Nashville tuning

Feedback, string brushing noise, percussive noise and release noise sounds

Every string sampled on every fret

Low E string also sampled tuned down to Eb and D

Three vibrato types: string-bending, violin-style and tailpiece

Muting control for the spy movie twang

Over 10000 samples, 3.76 GB extracted

    Lol.
I'm not sure how one post could ruin an otherwise useful feature.  I'm more concern that lack of usage, the reason I created this post, would be a much bigger factor.

But your concern is noted, it actually was always my intent to remove the tags in this post after a couple of days so that it wouldn't be an issue.
Hopefully more people will become aware of how useful tags are and start using them in their OPs.

  13. ★ MenuMagic v2.3.1 has been released!
This update is free to registered users – use your personal download link to download your copy of the new v2 MenuMagic.
This is a recommended update. Bug fixes and improvements should improve your MenuMagic experience.

While this release isn’t as ‘big’ as the previous v2.2 release it does contain important bug fixes and some new features.

    Notable Changes:
    Categorization tab
    • Fixed issue with GUI where in some cases the status of Move buttons (>,>>,<,<<) were not being properly refreshed (would become disabled).

    Menu Creation tab
    • Fixed bug that could affect UnCategorized plugins and only affected plugin that shared the same VST file (such as Waves) and also possibly some DX plugins.
Instead of having let’s say 4 versions of a plugin (for example mono, mono live, stereo, stereo live) you would end up with 4 copies of the first one hit as shown here:
    MM231MCbugfix.jpg
As mentioned this issue only affected certain plugins if they were UnCategorized and it has been fixed.

    • Added "Assign Layout" button.
Lets you assign existing Plug-in Layout Menus to Cakewalk's / Sonar's instrument & effect bin without having to create a new layout.
    MenuMagicAssignLayout.jpg

    • In Save Layout or Assign Layout- selecting an Effect bin, now selects all Effect bins. Same for Instruments.
This behavior matches that of Sonar Platinum and CbB.

Many other tweaks, bug fixes, etc.

    Known Issues:
    • Built in Help documentation does not contain information related to this release.
New changes in v2.2, v2.31 and planned changes in the next release will require that most of the screen shots will have to be redone.
Will catch up after next release.

More info on MenuMagic on KVRforum and info on previous release.
    Best regards,
    …Steven
