  1. Trouble with things like this is you never really know who to contact.  The driver manufacture, the plugin manufacturer or the Cakewalk developer?

If you contact the Cakewalk developers, they will say they can’t reproduce it because they have a different PC set-up.

Sometimes, who ever you contact , they will say it's not them

When you say “without loading a thing” - are you sure there are no plugins in your default template?

This happens to me from time to time - especially with CPU heavy plugins.....

I just have a batch file that kills the Cakewalk tasks.

Something like taskkill /im "cakewalk.exe" /f usually does the trick.  Yes, I shouldn’t have to do it, but there you go, I do......

For the record, my money is on a plugin most of the time.

pressing W would rewind and stop. Now, on the new installation, it  rewinds and starts playing by itself. I can't seem to find the difference in any settings that would cause this. Any suggestions?

I have never had that happen.

One thing that springs to mind is that something may be borked in the key bindings.

What you might want to try is head to Preferences - Customisation - Keyboard Shortcuts (Advanced).  Export your current keybindings.  Then Zap All.

If this does not fix it, then import your saved keybindings.

One thing to remember is that each workspace can load their own keybindings in case you’re using workspaces.

Other users might have other suggestions.

  3. Here is what I would try.

    · Turn your PC off and on again (make sure it does not merely go to sleep mode)
    · Log on to Windows and, when the desktop is ready,  immediately open Cakewalk by Bandlab.  Check Help - About to make sure you’re using 2024.02 Build 98
    · From the Cakewalk by Bandlab help menu , sign out so that the entry changes the “Sign in to Bandlab”
    · From the Cakewalk by Bandlab help menu , click on to “Sign in to Bandlab” This should open the Bandlab sign in page using your default browser.
    · Sign in using your Bandlab username and password
    · On a properly configured PC, this should activate Cakewalk by Bandlab.

I have done this plenty of times and it has worked every time.

    Things to note.
    · Make sure Windows is fully patched (i.e. all possible updates are installed for your Windows version)
    · Make sure there are now antivirus or third party firewalls interfering with the activation handshaking process.
    · Make sure you are using Cakewalk by Bandlab 2024.02 Build 98 (or the latest at any given time).  Previous versions will not activate.
    · Bandlab assistant is no longer used for activating Cakewalk by Bandlab.

It will.  Melodyne is not tandem version friendly.  One replaces the other and I passed on the $25 upgrade cause v5 has no 32 bit.  Mistake I'm sure.  Curious if the requirement is listed somewhere as I haven't been able to find it.

The Celemony website states that Melodyne is 64bit only.  It's under “Technical matters” - System requirements

    You still using 32bit stuff?

  5. In the forum release notes for 2023.09 Build 75, the bakers said that “Version 2023.09 will likely be the last update”.

    Notice the word “likely”

This means that it is unlikely that there will be further updates.  However, not impossible.

Again, 2024.02 will LIKELY be the last update.  Also, 2024.02 will still require activation.

    See

  6. One other issue I have found with track templates is this.

If I have a track template with MIDI track routed to a plugin (say to a wah pedal in TH3 or IKM’s Amplitube), the MIDI routing gets lost when the track template is reloaded.

    Recipe:

    · Create a SIT with a VSTi
    · Place an FX plugin in that track’s audio FX rack and enable that FX’s MIDI in.
    · Create a MIDI track and route that track’s MIDI out to the FX’s MIDI in.
    · Use the FX’s MIDI learn to create a MIDI mapping from a controller to parameter.
    · Confirm that moving the slider on the MIDI controller changes the parameter on the FX.

I save both the SIT and the MIDI track to a single track template

When I insert that track template, the MIDI routing is still present. However, moving the slider on the MIDI controller no longer changes the parameter on the FX.

The work around is to turn “MIDI in” on the FX off and on again. Then re- route the MIDI track’s MIDI out to the FX’s MIDI in. After doing that, moving the slider on the MIDI controller changes the parameter on the FX.

I have tried this with VST2 and VST3 version of the FX plugin. I have also tried is with other manufacturer’s FX plugins. Same result.

This only effects Track Templates. Saving as a project or a Project Templates does retain the MIDI routing to the effect.

You can't have 2 ASIO devices in Windows.

    Slight correction.

Windows itself allows multiple ASIO devices installed.

Any one Windows program itself cannot have two ASIO devices selected therein. (Which is why the OP's Focusrite ASIO was greyed out in CbB)

If you have multiple ASIO devices, Cakewalk can use use one ASIO device.  Another program (ORB Studio for eg) can use only one of the other ASIO devices.

The two programs can run at the same time using their respective ASIO devices.

The only stipulation is same sample rate, bit depth and (I think) buffer size for all ASIO devices.

    Invert = Toggle

Ah, that’s why I couldn’t find it in the manual (yeah I know, I actually read the manual).  I was searching for the phrase  “invert selection” or something like that.

So it seems the only real change is the look of Sonar vs. CbB! If you do not have a high resolution monitor/graphics, then this is not worth much!

Also in the list of bug fixes I could almost find nothing that is of interest to me! But YMMV!

One bug fixed that effects me is that with CbB, MIDI chase did not include any aftertouch events.  With Sonar, it does (both Key and Channel).

Also, the ability to set a default instrument when you add a SIT is handy too.

    But as you say, YMMV.

  10. What happens if, with the selection as shown, and the Smart Tool enabled, while CTRL is pressed,  you right drag a marquee around the notes you want to invert the selection of?

I tried it here, and indeed, this did invert the note selection within the bounds of the resultant selection marquee.

And boy do they ever need to get our custom themes happening!

    I have to agree there.

I spent a long time making my theme in CbB just how I like it.

I would hate to have to give it up - which, it looks like, I will have to..  (The Bakers did say that the new Sonar would not support theming).

Thanks. Followed your suggestion and checked in the Control Panel. Nothing DAW/VST/plugins related is on my system.

At what part of the installation does the error message "This software requires installation of the intelLok(R) device drivers and a reboot before running..." appear?

Are you sure “This software” is refering to Cakewalk by Bandlab?

If Cakewalk by Bandlab is scanning your plugin folder, and it comes cross a plugin file that requires iLok (or “intelLok” , then I believe this message would appear.

There is definitely a file on you PC somewhere that is generating this message.  Start looking in your plugins folder.  It will ether be a DLL file or (less likely) a VST3 file.   Try C:\Program Files(x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins or any other VstPlugins folder.

I can categorically guarantee that Cakewalk by Bandlab itself does not need any form of iLok to install or run.
