  1. Is the synth or VSTi physically modelled or does it use samples.  Also, does the VSTi actually repond to program change events.

If the VSTi is physically modelled and it responds to program changes (like Applied Acoustic Systems VSTis for eg), then the patch changes are responded to  pretty much instantly.

If the VSTi uses sample and it responds to program changes, then there will be significant delay while the sample is being loaded.  In that case, maybe freezing the track might be in order.

    Regarding the list of patches.

There are some VSTs that populate this list - otherwise you have to read the manual for that VSTi to know what program change commands to send.

If you're using a hardware synth and you have correctly loaded the appropriate Instrument definition file (INS), then the patch list will be populated with the correct patches for that hardware synth. This is assuming the INS file contains the names.

Bottom line is that it depends entirely on the VSTi or synth.

Can I rename a hidden file?

It's not a hidden file.  It's just the extension that's hidden.

Select AUD ( which is actually AUD.INI ) file and hit F2.  Then rename it to something like AUD_Back

Obviously do this with Cakewalk closed.

Ideally you would want to change folder settings so that extensions are not hidden.

This is done in Control Panel | File Explorer options, "View" tab, then deselect "Hide Extensions for known file types"

  3. There is a more recent Nvidia driver (dated 1 Oct 2019) than what you have that is compatible with the GT635.  Still update it, even though I don't think this will stop the pops and crackles.

Do you have onboard audio that also may need to be disabled?

Have you disabled core parking on your CPU?  Turned off speedstep? (Intel sometimes calls this EIST)  .  In Advanced power settings set CPU min and max, both to 100%

Go start run and "control powercfg.cpl,,1" (copy and paste without the quotes) to quickly get to these settings.

In fact, disable any and all power saving options you can find.

  4. Yes.

If you check the MIDI track settings (using the inspector or console view), you will see where that MIDI track's output is directed to.

Currently it should be set to the TTS-1.

All you have to do is click on the MIDI output drop-down and select the TX16Wx (assuming you have installed the soft synth) .  If the TX16Wx is a hardware synth, simply select the MIDI port on which the TX16Wx is physically connected to.

Hi, I've instaled the Studio Instruments Suite, but I can't find the four plug-ins inside Cakewalk. They don't appear in the virtual instruments module, as my other manually installed plug-ins. So, where are them? How can I reach the Studio Instruments ones?

    Cheers,

Have you gone to Preferences | File | VST Settings and done a Reset and Scan (in that order)

  6. Did you do the following?

Decrapify it (i.e. remove all the pre-installed software)

Install all updates for Windows 10 and vdist runtimes (These are not included with Windows Updates)

Update all hardware drivers (Manually visit Manufacturers websites rather that rely on auto updates) - graphics, Audio I/F, network, etc

Optimise according to various DAW optimisation guides around the place.

Core parking off (CPU Min and Max at 100%)

All power saving you can find off (in AC mode)
                  USB power saving off
If Nvida, set power saving to "Prefer Max performance" (In 3D settings)

Others may have more things to try.

    buying Sonar Professional:

    YES

Clicking on the Buy Now link takes you to the "Cakewalk Announcement" mentioning that they "we ceased new product development and reduced overall operations this past Friday"  Past Friday meaning back in late 2017.  I guarantee you cannot purchase Sonar Professional.

Can you tell up about your MIDI set up.  When you press keys on the korg , do you see any MIDI activity on the MIDI track?  Have you double checked your MIDI channels in the MIDI routing?

I have installed Cakewalk and would like to buy Sonar Professional.

buying Sonar Professional is not possible as Gibson ceased development in late 2017.

Your option is to download and install Cakewalk by Bandlab.

As for the (KORG microKEY-61), have you selected the korg as your MIDI input device and  turned input echo on in the MIDI track?

Thanks for the quick response, Promidi.

Yes, holding shift while opening Cakewalk. I tried uninstalling the driver for the Aurora and installing the latest driver.

    CbB still won't open.

As a test only, what happens if you rename your AUD.ini file then try to start Cakewalk.

    This file is located here:

    %APPDATA%\cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\

  10. When you "Won't run in safe mode", I am assuming that mean holding shift while opening Cakewalk?

Maybe try uninstalling the driver for your Lynx Aurora 16.  Maybe head to the Lynx Studio Technology website and grab the latest drivers if you have not done so already.

  11. MME is the "tast resort" mode in case nothing works - for the reasons that you have discovered.  ASIO still remains the most favoured driver mode.

When you say "Then I updated Sonar" I am assuming that is to the latest Cakewalk by Bandlab (2019.9 Build 70).   If not then I recommend you do so.  Note Sonar can run side by side - you shouldn't uninstall Sonar to when you install Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Then try reinstalling the driver for the Roland Octa-Capture.  Maybe head to the Roland website and grab the latest drivers if you have not done so already.

eg ,So I have a note staring at 18:01:000 and i want to start it 330 ms earlier,i put 330ms in the nudge settings and nudge left. The note moves to 17:04:559 which is too far,Im thinking it should be at 17:04:630.If i use the slide method and put -330 in "ticks" it moves it to exactly where I want it 17:04:630

Happy for you to point out what I'm missing, maybe its a setting somewhere of Im not understanding it properly. But Im happy where the notes are.

If it's ticks that causes the notes to move the required amount, then I think you were wanting ticks rather than milliseconds.

Note: if you do use ticks, then the actual amount of shift , if defined in milliseconds, would depend on the tempo of the project were the notes are.  The settings: Preferences | Project | Clock , Ticks per quarter note, will also have an influence on the actual amount of shift.

  13. What I would do is select all the notes in the given track(s) that contains all the notes you wish to change.

Then use Edit | Select | by filter to narrow the selection to the notes that have the velocity range that you wish to edit.

Then use Process Nudge settings to define the milliseconds to nudge the notes by and then perform the nudge.

If you are willing to convert the milliseconds to ticks, you can use Process | Slide and slide by the calculated ticks.

If you use the Process | Slide command (and you convert the milliseconds to ticks), you could also write a CAL script for to this automatically.
