    For the new function,

Perhaps this is explained somewhere else here? I could not find it:

I find that the "back-to-back" import with CTRL+SHIFT actually places the consecutive MIDI clips with their first note, whatever beat it may fall on in the original clip, to be placed not after the last note/beat of the previous clip in what I would call a back-to-back fashion, but instead it overlaps this clip's first note with the last note of the previous clip whatever beat that happens to fall on. This is unexpected behavior to me, but perhaps it is the intended one?

And if I force the clips to be imported to only one open track lane, the last note of the previous clip is simply overwritten by the first note of the next clip at the precise beat where that former last note would have fallen.

Can someone explain the logic behind this overlapping for consecutive clips?  I had expected the following clip to be, at least,  placed at the end boundary of the previous clip.

This is now logged, thanks. If you CTRL + Shift drag the clips directly to a track lane, it should import them without the overlap.

For a few days now, and on both my desktop and laptop Windows 7 Pro 64-bit computers, I am unable to update CbB.

I get the same error message in the bottom right of Cakewalk, on both computers.   I've been logged into CbB website, and I also tried again by turning off Avast AV and Malwarebytes, but to no avail.  I tried updating from within the Cakewalk application on my desktop, and from the Assistant using my Laptop.  Same problem either way.  And the laptop is saying I cannot save files in its present state.

Is this a problem on my end, or is Bandlab having issues with connections?

This is a known issue with Windows 7. Please use the web installer here instead:

  3. Melodyne 5 is significantly more stable than v4, so if you have the option to upgrade... it's well worth it. I haven't seen any issues with Melodyne clips recently, and I've been doing a lot of testing with various project with a bunch of Melodyne clips.

Printing FX is not a bad idea to future-proof backups for your projects, but shouldn't be necessary on a day-to-day basis for projects.

    HI Bakers.

Since the new update I seem to be having a problem where cakewalk is freezing when it tries to flush plugins, and I'm having to close it down via task manager, don't know if anyone has reported this issue.

Can you capture a dump file when this happens?

After the update the control bar keeps reverting to a reduced version every time I  run the software. I'd prefer to have the full control bar with all the modules at my disposal but for some reason Cakewalk won't remember my choice.

This is what I get when I open the program after the update:

    reduced_cb.thumb.jpg.4092bb8c92cb838ef039e8266bc17700.jpg

This is what it used to look like and which I'd love to retain:

    full_cb.thumb.jpg.33ec832410b8d3e388a83240699774fd.jpg

Is there any way to make Cakewalk remember my choice. It's a bit annoying having to manually revert to the full version every time.

Notice on the upper right side- you have the Workspace set to "Basic". It's doing this by design. Set this to "None" instead.

Can someone please help me get the additional audio export presets? I only see these two.  I am a brand new user of CbB and only started with version 2021.6 so I cannot use the rollback utility to access version 2020.11. Can someone let me know where I can download the missing presets? Thanks in advance.

Go to Help | About Cakewalk, and double-check that you're on build 120. If so, close the app, then hold CTRL when launching Cakewalk. This will force copy the new presets.

So...I'm kinda heated right now, not gonna lie.

I created a new project.  Got all my files imported, did about an hour and a half of work with some balancing and panning and editing and some light EQ and compression going on on the drums and bass...things are going good.

I go to create a send and forget that all my tracks are selected, so it does it on every single track.  Lol, whoops.  So I'm going through and deleting sends...I get about halfway through and all of a sudden the second I delete another send, the entire project crashes to desktop without warning.  No hang or freeze, no errors or warnings,  saves literally none of the work done that entire time (even though I have auto-save enabled), no dump file, nothing.  It straight up closes out, and it's like the project never even existed and nothing was ever done.

I didn't really have a whole lot going on yet plugin-wise, so CPU load, RAM, etc. were all fine and I only had like 4 different plugins (maybe ten instances total) even inserted in the project...and those few plugins I've been using just fine in other projects and aren't very resource intensive (VBC-Grey, Sonitus Compressor, Infinity EQ, and a Slate FG-X on my master).  I have HUGE, intensive projects I've been working on on this machine (that involve these same plugins as well) and have had no issues, fwiw.

I know that's not a lot to go on, but I literally don't have anything to go on.  Again, there was no hang/freeze, no warnings or errors, and no dump file was created.  I will say it's eerily similar to a bug we had a couple of years ago where the same thing would happen occasionally when inserting a send (you would literally insert a send and the project would automatically crash out about 75% of the time, and you would lose all work done in the session, even if it had been auto-saving).  Now apparently it does it rarely when deleting a send.  It's bizarre.

Anyway, it's late and I'm exhausted and angry and after literally just wasting two hours of my life and losing a bunch of work I'm gonna go to bed.  I'll check back here in the morning, lol.

Usually crashes where the app just disappears as described are plugin-related. These types of crashes are why we implemented "ExceptionHandlingSeverity" as an option you can enable in the Initialization File section of the Preferences. Default value is 1, you can increase this to 7 if you're experiencing a crash, and it should then be able to get a dump file if it crashes again. At that point we can take a look at the dump file and if there's anything actionable on our end. In the meantime, normal saving of the project should work fine even if it subsequently crashes (the project just might not appear in the recent project list as that is populated on normal project close).

  8. Hi Olaf,

Unfortunately we don't have ready access to many of the plugins in your project currently, so we're unable to get a repro as described currently, but we're still investigating.

If we're on the topic, the order of the Rack, Browser and Help windows, in the right side dock, never gets saved with the project.

This issue is already logged on our end.

Neither does the Show/Hide Arranger Track state in the Track View. And neither do the Meter Options, in the Track View.

Are you using a Workspace? I'm unable to reproduce this normally, but your description sounds like it may be reapplying a workspace on project load which would change those types of things in the UI.

    16 hours ago, Olaf said:

Also, NastyDLA doesn't save its Wet Only state, which I thought was because of the plugin, only I've noticed it doesn't happen in Harrison Mixbus.

Is there a version of this plugin that's still available to test? It appears to be removed from their website. Also just because a plugin behaves one way in a particular DAW does not mean that the bug is not in the plugin. The things that @Noel Borthwick has seen...

The order of some One Knobs - or the on/off state, I don't remember - doesn't get saved in the PC strip.

If you can provide details on this we'll investigate. I haven't heard of other reports of this.

    16 hours ago, Olaf said:

And on the meter options topic - the intricate menu, with a million individual options, to click on separately, is criminal. How about one single menu option - "Meter Options" - which open a dialog window with bullet checks for all the options, so you could set them all at once, in a single place, instead of clicking about 20 times, with three level menu branching for each, to set them all, like now? That would be a significant simplification requiring no user sacrifice/adaptation.

Are you changing the metering options that frequently? It might be easier to save a template with these configured as desired so you don't need to access the menu options as often. The issue with doing a redesign to implement a separate options page for this is it diverts resources from other features/fixes.  We'll take it under consideration.

A prime indication of how little went into the install routine is you are not able to manually set the install paths. Some of us have machines beyond the basic Dell and HP laptops most of you have and we like to very carefully determine where we put our files for enhanced thru put and efficiency. Any program installer that gives you no choice is amateurish at best.

The only way you wouldn't see an option to manually set the install paths would be if you already had an existing Cakewalk/SONAR install, in which case it inherits a path that you would have set previously. Not that you can't manually reconfigure paths after installation either. The OP's issue was with getting the download to run via BandLab Assistant. Other users linked them to a new installer that worked successfully for them.

Got an interesting error when you installer tried to write a file to my router internal memory! Pretty crappy setup, no wonder why Cakewalk fell on its sword and is a relic of the past

Nothing with our installers write anything to your router's internal memory. Sounds like you might have some sort of other system issue.

    Hello Forums,

After a recent update, Cakewalk will no longer record volume automation from my mixer.

    - For the record, I can record volume automation IN Cakewalk.

    - If I record the volume automation in Cakewalk, the Mixer (I tested on two mixers - ProjectMix I/O as well as Faderport 8) will read the output and the motorized faders will move accordingly.

    - If I try to record the volume automation on my Mixer into Cakewalk, cakewalk will just give me a flatline and not capture any data.

    - Offset Mode in the control menu is off.

    Hello Christopher,

Are you sure the input port for your surfaces is set correctly in the Preferences? It's possible that this might have changed, thus causing it to receive data from the app, but not send. I just tested that automation does work correctly with a FP8 on my end, so nothing should have changed within the app to affect this in general.

    2021.06 Highlights

"Modern Standby" support and improved Power Management

    • Added support for "Modern Standby" a new power management feature introduced in Windows 10 build 2004.
Modern Standby mode is supported by some PC's (typically modern laptops). Modern standby is different from the traditional sleep modes and has to be specially handled by the application in order to suspend and resume hardware properly.
    • Improved handling for resuming from a sleep state in Windows. Cakewalk will additionally reload the driver if necessary, if the driver requests a restart or it stops responding.

    • Suspend and resume are properly handled when a dialog box is open.

Handle VST instruments that change output counts

If a VST instrument changes its output count, ports in projects previously saved with the instrument could become offset by the change in outputs. This could cause projects to stop playing through other virtual instruments until their instrument track inputs were reassigned.
Cakewalk will now detect change in outputs on opening a project and  automatically reassign ports appropriately with no user intervention required.

    Bug fixes

    • Fixed crash when exporting single track with "-" in track name and filename
    • Wedge Force Matcha plugin hangs on changing presets in 2021.06 release
    • Projects saved with older versions of Omnisphere open with input ports assigned to incorrect instruments
    • Space bar does not start playback when using Vienna Ensemble Pro
    • Shift + Right Click toggle for Inline PRV causes unexpected lasso selection
    • New projects flagged as modified in 2021.06
    • Extra Synth Instances inserted when adding all synth audio outputs for Split Instrument Track
    • F2 to rename arranger section immediately after drag draw
    • Alt + T in TV View Menu cut off slightly

...and it just did it again when I deleted a clip.

No error message displayed. Can you tell me where I can find the dump file?

If the crash is caught, it should prompt you about it, but they should go to C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\cakewalk\cakewalk core\MiniDumps.

....And, of course, this time it didn't do it, though it did three times before I posted. I haven't re-booted since it last crashed. Unless having a chicken sandwich is a workaround, not a thing has changed since the last fail.  Typical, huh?

However, I've set the Exception Severity, and I'll capture the next time it falls over. Thank you so much for the swift response.

    That's always how it goes.

A further quick note for the exception handling, just bear in mind that you'll ultimately want to remove that once you've captured your dump because it can also catch some other things that are benign. It's very handy for when you're trying to troubleshoot a particular scenario to get more details on a problem, but you'll want to turn that off when you don't need it.

  15. 1 hour ago, Mark Bastable said:

...no error message, nothing. Just disappears from the screen.

One thing that invariably causes it is bouncing to track - even just two clips. But other functions seem to do it too.

I have no CPU or RAM problems. And it's been running fine for a couple of months. Just started this crashing thing in the last few days.

    Any insights would be welcome.

Running on Windows 10, four-month-old Lenovo laptop, Cakewalk version 2021.06, Build 53

Also, if you're not getting a crash dump initially, try increasing the exception handling severity in the preferences to capture a dump to send to us. Just go to the Initialization File section and add this option/value:

  16. Note: The installer in the original post has been updated to version 1.0.0.015. This version now allows for the install of add-ons on top of an existing up-to-date Cakewalk installation. It also runs the full installer in silent mode when updating an existing Cakewalk installation prior to the previous update.

It's still not clear to me what the prefix adds for anyone. Under the previous system, people could make the friendly names whatever they liked.

The new pipe separator thing is a good addition. but enforced prefixes is the removal of flexibility, and in cases like mine, actively reduces clarity.

Because for years people have asked us for a system where they were confused by inconsistent third party driver names and how they were labeled only as left, right, and stereo. The port numbers actually will show you input port 1 on your device. It's beyond our control that Roland wrote a driver that put "mic/line 1" as input 5. Obviously it's not perfect for everyone at the moment, but the amount of work required to renumber the driver ports exceeded the scope of this update. @Noel Borthwick can give you more specifics.
