@Jonathan Sasor Drum replacer is not available in the free Sonar on the two computers that I in have installed it on.
My insert regional effects list only shows Vocal sync.

Not a problem as I rarely got it to work as expected. It’s got great potential when combined with stem separation to create a midi drum track using the original recording.

It's a separate install from the app itself, but it's available in either the updates tab of Sonar or CPC. I've used Drum Replacer on stuff on many occasions over the years, just have to dial it in.

I just installed Sonar Free and under preferences it doesn't have Themes. Years ago I spent a long time on my custom theme and wonder if there's a way I can use that. I never change themes, I just use the same one I created.

Themes from previous CbB/SONAR versions are not compatible with the latest Sonar which has a vector based UI instead of bitmaps.

Hey John!Glad to see you're still actively involved over here helping us all figure everything out....

Like everyone else who just found out what's going on re-Aug.1,been studying all the threads here to better understand things...

Since I have a couple of current projects using both Drum Replacer and SI Strings, would really appreciate some clarification re-above i.e.-

"No "= they won't be available in Sonar free tier

    OR

"No "= that won't be the case and, just like people have been posting re-the TTS-1,as long as you already have these installed in CbBL,they'll "seamlessly migrate" along w/everything else...

Sonar's Free tier includes Drum Replacer and the Studio Instruments suite, which if you already have CbB will then already be available to Sonar. TTS-1 was removed from Sonar/CbB installers a while back at Roland's request due to their desire to drop support for it.

I'm seeing the same behavior. I thought it might be because I had a previous install with ProChannel modules from earlier Sonar versions. This would still be a bug with Product Center at the very least.

There's a product center issue with it not seeing that the PC modules have installed. The updates tab in Sonar recognizes it though. The included modules are PC2A and Concrete Limiter.

After the today update (2025.07) Sonar found 4 new plug-ins after the startup scanning it did when I launched it.

What were those 4? How can I find out?

No new plugins were included with the update, but the scanner will pick up changes for XSampler (which builds with every Sonar build) or if anything else has otherwise changed on the system.

    Hi all,

I'm using the premium tier Sonar (build 31.06.0.048). When I insert a synth via the browser or right clicking on the track list, I am taken to the Synth Rack. In CbB, I was taken to the main screen. Have I not chosen the proper option somewhere or is this the way things will be from now on?

    Thanks for your time,

    Timbo

This is a setting in the Insert Soft Synth Options. Note the "Open These Windows" part on the right.

I asked pretty much the same question.  A lot of the features touted for the new Sonar paid version are features I have already as a result of paying for all the Producer and Premium, 30th anniversary, add-in ProChannel stuff etc.  If I use the free version but have all the older versions installed, wonder if I will get things like Powr dithering and such.

Plugins from legacy versions will be available, but in-app things such as the dithering algorithm are not available in the free tier.

Hi - I built up my DAW over many (expensive) years through Guitar Tracks, Sonar Platinum and Professional and obviously moved to Cakewalk by BandLab a few years ago when Sonar ended. My DAW still has all the features from the higher spec versions from years gone by plus all the new Cakewalk stuff. If I move to Sonar Next or the paid version, will everything I have remain as it is? Do the older users like me out there think it's worth paying (more) for the new paid version? I'm old school guitar / bass etc so don't need zillions of loops or beats so I'm not sure I'll get much value out of the full version.  Thanks all.

Everything should migrate fine moving from any legacy Cakewalk app to Cakewalk Sonar.

    Thanks.

I just downloaded Cakewalk Product Center, logged in and downloaded Sonar.  Product Center is showing Overloud TH-U Cakewalk and ProChannel Modules available to install.  However, when I try to download and install them it says I need a membership even though I purchased a membership and have signed in.  What gives?

    Unlock Sonar's complete toolset.jpg

Try again, everything looks good for your account as far as I can see, it's possible that something might not have updated yet on the back end when you tried previously. All of the add-ons are also available to download within Sonar itself as well.

    Question:

CWBB has worked great for me the last three years. I have an I7-4770 CPU at 3.40GHz with only 8GB ram.

If I download and install the Free Tier can my PC run it? TIA.

Generally speaking, yes. If you've been running CbB without issue, Sonar should be okay.

so the minimum requirement is not 9 cores? so how many is it? (tbf is says 8 on the webpage https://help.cakewalk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021857753-What-are-the-minimum-requirements-for-using-Cakewalk-Sonar )

You can think of it more like a recommended minimum. Can it run with less than 8? Yes. Will it run as well? No. Does anything prevent you from trying it on a system below those specs? Nope.

EDIT: Unless you're trying to run on an older version of Windows...

Hi from France. I use Sonar Cakewalk since decades and I have a lot of projects running. I see that the minimum requirements for the processor is nine cores. Actually CbB runs perfectly on my computer. It  has a Intel Core I5 10400 with 6 cores. Does it mean that I have to upgrade the processor or to buy a new computer ? Or simply that Sonar will not react correctly with an heavy charge in case of a big project ?
    Rem : I have a 32 GO ram.
    Thank you for the answer.

If you're running CbB fine, you should also be fine with Sonar, so long as you're on Windows 10 or 11.

I'm at least glad to hear it's working correctly for you. Hopefully someone will chime in with an idea on how to fix it.

Note: it's happening on all 3 projects that I started in CbB. I wonder if that could have something to do with it?

I've yet to start a new project in  Sonar.

I'm not seeing any issues with how this is working on our end. Please try creating a new project with an audio clip and see if it works correctly there.

Perhaps the notification within the software could be clarified to explain this to users so you and any support personnel at bandlab don't have to keep answering this over and over and over and over and over..... ;)

The phrasing was updated for build 48 that dropped on Friday. It now says "Activation Refreshes on: [date]"

I migrated to Sonar from Cakewalk by Bandlab. I would like to use Free Tier so pressed "evaluate" instead of getting a membership subscription.
Now, [about Sonar] says it expires after a month.
    image.png.66749d0ed1da871d546c8a4ae2b5aaf2.png

Do I need to get a subscription after this date or do I get to keep updating the evaluation mode?

This is just referring to when the app needs to refresh its lease. If you're online, it'll just automatically get this and you can keep working at the free tier, no issue.

I re-installed Sonar Free through the Cakewalk Product Center and the program opened in the Russian edition as before.  What should I do? Un-install, then clean out my registry?  If there is a menu option to change language editions, I can't find it because every label is in Russian.

You can change the language in the Preferences:

but from Wukie's post from my other thread/question that he decided to lock... It will  still deactivate from time to time.  If for example Band Lab decides to change "something" in the software, I doubt you will have a choice of sticking to a prior version, or ability to backup/preserve particular build. Likely it's a non-issue for many, but to me it is.

Unless I am wrong...  Maybe team can clarify.

It refreshes the license periodically in the same way that CbB does now.

    Bristol_Jonesey,

I'm from Missouri. You have to show me. Actually Mississauga, but it's spelled similarly. Just kidding.

The question that I forgot to ask was are the projects backwardly compatible, i.e. CbB project, saved in Sonar, will it open in CbB again? Let's just say I was burned in 2018 and don't know what to believe with this generous, free offer.

    Timbo

Minus any new features not in CbB, projects are backwards compatible. Same as opening a CbB project in SONAR Platinum.

The apps install alongside one another just as CbB did to Platinum as well.
