I remember Meng mentioning BandLab Technology has a new-in-box VS-700 remaining from the days his music store was a Cakewalk distributor.  I believe Meng said then he hoped the driver can be updated for Windows 10.  However, I would be surprised to know he initiated a conversation with Roland to get it done as I assume such a conversation would be low on a "nice to do" list.

I set up  that very same VS-700 in the office in Singapore when I was out there in 2018.

Trying to get the drivers from Roland is not quite as cut and dry of a thing as one would like, plus you're dealing with only so many units for what's a 10 year old piece of gear at this point. So while they still run, I wouldn't hold my breath for there being any updates.

    Hi,

there is a person who lives locally to me that is selling the vs700 and. I/o.  I have the vs 100.  Can I get yhe vs 700 to be fully operational in Cakewalk by BandLab.  I heard there were driver issues with windows 10 and the ACT functions are possibly not working anymore.

if I can get this to work with the latest iteration of cakewalk I’d love to purchase it but if it’s going to be a constant headache, I’ll pass.

thanks in advance for any information you can give me.

The short answer is it generally works fine. Unlike the VS-100, Roland never got around to making a Windows 10 installer for the VS-700 driver. The v2.2 driver itself will work on Windows 10, it just requires you to manually edit a configuration file in the installer to allow installation on Win 10 (which then requires booting into windows with driver signatures disabled for the install). There's a whole big thread on the old forum with the details on how to do it.

In practice, it's a pretty simple thing to do. I personally run a VS-700 every day. All the major functions work just fine in Cakewalk by BandLab.

I'm not sure that I'd want to throw large sums of money to get one at this point, but if they're offering a deal for it, it's a pretty good piece of hardware. Bear in mind its hard to say how long the Windows will keep the status quo with how the drivers work, but at least for the past few years it's been fine in my personal experience.

    Hello there;

I am trying to save the range of all the audio meters on my default project template to -24. Cakewalk shows them on a -12 range. I am trying to avoid to change them every time I start a new project. Am I missing something or this is something Cakewalk doesn't save it in a Project Template?

    Thank you!

You can do this in Track View's Options menu, Meter Options. This is then saved with a project/template. The template will appear in the start screen so long as you save it as a .cwt file in the correct location with the other project templates. There's a "go to folder" drop down that will take you right to the template folder when saving a template.

    Hi everyone,

    I've been a Sonar user

since the early stages already for a very long time. As I have transitioned towards this new version (that I still tend to call Sonar, sounds kinda cool), there were some minor issues surfacing from time to time which I plan to bring up eventually here.

In this context, there is a problem with the MIDI assignment of inputs, which has changed since recently. Namely, when you connect a keyboard while Kontakt player is running and you assign the MIDI as it requests in a message, the inputs and outputs of all other MIDI synths will be randomly reassigned. However, when you plug in your MIDI controller and then run Cakewalk, everything is normal.

I guess this is some sort of bug and needs to be fixed. Opinions and views are very welcomed indeed, perhaps there's some workaround or even fix that I haven't managed to come by so far for this.

    Cheers!

We're aware of this issue and it's logged with development. Like Dave said, we recommend not making changes to your MIDI device configuration while you have a project open in the meantime.

yes, the devs appreciate all input, but have to decide what requests to prioritise based on a bunch of factors, so you may or may not see your own requests implemented, but don't stop asking :)

That's exactly it, so feel free to request whatever you might find useful. We can't do everything for everybody, but if someone has a a good idea, we're definitely open to hear it.

I installed CbB on a new PC, to see what it has.  I loaded a couple of old projects and other than some 3rd party purchased add-on's such as POD Farm,  Ozone, etc I don't see anything that I can't live without.  I'm not going to install Platinum.  If I find down the line I need something then I'll install it.

Just bear in mind that if you install Platinum, you'll want to then reinstall Cakewalk by BandLab on top again as there's shared components that will get overwritten by Platinum.

I clicked on the update tab in the notification. The bandlab assistant started and downloaded the necessary files. It seemed to take longer time than earlier updates but i can't prove that.

That is the correct behavior because it means that BA downloaded the correct installer you needed. The smaller update installer updates those who were on the initial release version 25.11.0.54, so it would have downloaded the larger full installer version for you.

All clicking the notification from CbB should do is open Assistant, so it's weird that would make any difference, but good to hear you got the update.

    Hi all,

After receiving the update notification for the past 3 weeks, I finally decided to do the update (I first wanted to complete a running project).

I hit the update button in Bandlab Assistent. It downloaded the update, Windows10 than started to install. But just a few seconds after starting the install I receive the message "This installer will only update Cakewalk by Bandlab version 25.11.0.54". I only have an OK button. After clicking this button nothing happens (except for the install window that is being closed).

Anyone any suggestion on what to do? I currently have version "2019.09" of Cakewalk installed (as far as I know this was the latest version available in Assistent).

    Kind regards,

    Roderick

    Hi Roderick,

Small hiccup from BandLab Assistant that should be fixed. Try running BA again now.

Hey Noel.  They all reverted to their default icons.   For example, I have projects with full orchestra sets, and  each track had been set up with the appropriate track icons.  After updating, when  the workspace came up all the icons had been reset to default.  I discovered if I set the workspace to "none" and then bring up the project, everything looks as expected (including track icons).    I assume the track icons are  being saved as part of a workspace.

What view's track icons are you seeing missing? Track View, Console View?

  11. While I can't speak to everyone's experiences, I can say that the Bakers collectively are very passionate about CbB and we do everything within our power to make it the best possible app it can be. Every app has bugs, that's part of the game with software. If we can identify a problem, we'll fix it (as time/resources allow). Workflow stoppages get our attention first. Our team is not the biggest one on earth though. We wear a lot of hats and juggle a lot of responsibilities.

It becomes slightly more complicated with third party vendors. We try our best to reach out and work with other companies to ensure that plugins work as well as they can. Some companies are more receptive to working with us than others. What's difficult to tell is that sometimes a plugin might have a bug that is only exposed using a given host. Not every host handles plugins exactly the same- there's some wiggle room in how the VST spec from Steinberg is implemented in each case. If a plugin itself is failing in Cakewalk, there might not be much we can do, we can't debug other people's code. That said, if there's something we're doing incorrectly, we will absolutely make every effort to fix that on our end. Sometimes we'll find a problem with how a plugin is operating and reach out to the developer, and not get much in the way of a response. In those cases we can't do much, but we're always open to working other companies.

That said, we try to replicate problems as best we can. A lot of times there's system environmental variables that we can't account for. This is part of why we push updates and hotfixes. When we can identify and reproduce a scenario that's reported, we try to get a fix out as rapidly as we can. The CbB dev team spends a good deal of time working with users to this end. We want the app to work as smoothly as possible for everyone. Sometimes people hit roadblocks, we do our best to avoid that from happening in the first place, but when that happens, we're more than willing to work with end users towards a resolution. Sometimes there's a system configuration issue that needs to  be tweaked. Other times some hardware behaves unexpectedly. Obviously it can be frustrating when you run into a problem, but as with third party vendors, if users are willing to work with us, we'll do everything within our power to get them back on their feet as rapidly as possible. All we ask is for a positive attitude and we'll return in kind and do our best. We're not perfect, no one is. But we're always striving to make improvements wherever possible, and will continue to work with our users both through support and via this forum.

Problem from Early Access 2019.11 persists in update.

Waves V11 VST3 and VST2 installed only VST2 showing in Cakewalk. Had to uninstall VST2 before all my VST3 V11 Plugins show properly.

Toontrack Superior Drummer V3 and EZMix, and EZKeys etc. I only have VST3 installed but all Toontrack programs show in menus and the Plugin Manager as VST2. When i load the plugins I see a VST2 drop down. Don’t understand this as only VST 3 installed ion the computer.

I haven’t tried other plugins yet but it’s very weird. Add EWQL Play to the list only when deleting VST2 version the VST3 version doesn’t appear in the Manager or menus. It’s in its installation directory as expected.

Is it a Win 10 latest update problem? Or CbB?

This sounds like something with your scan might be off. I have both Waves v11 and the Toontrack stuff on my system, and they're displaying normally here. Have you done a full reset/rescan? Also check if something is blocking the scan from completing (like if a plugin is causing a prompt that you're not catching).

Too Bad . . . I was hoping that with the re-working of the Lenses feature towards the Workspaces feature there would be a resolution to a long standing issue I've always had since Lenses was introduced.

I like to use Ctrl-TAB to toggle between Track View and Console View.  My workaround has always been when opening a project with both Track View and Console View active, you have to click on Lenses - None (even though None is already checked) Then, something magically flickers, and you're once again able to use Ctrl-TAB to toggle between Track and Console.

I won't call it a bug . . . more of a personal workflow choice, since I only have one monitor . . . but, if you save a project where Ctrl-TAB toggles properly between Track and Console . . . shouldn't it re-open again with the same behaviour intact ?

I'm guessing you're working with a undocked window for the Console View? Do you have floating turned on for the Console View or not?

I'd probably suggest using the Multidock to show/hide the Console instead in any case, which you can show/hide by toggling "d". Shift + d will also toggle the maximized view for the dock.

  14. If you go to Task Manager when you're seeing that dialog, you can generate a dump file that you can send us that will provide a bit more information. This link has better info on that:

If both the VST2 and 3 are installed, its not unusual to see both unless you specifically have the option to hide related VST2 plugins in the Preferences. Is the "replace if possible" option there also enabled?

It seems that since the last several updates of Cakewalk by Bandlab and EW Play player I have been getting crashes of CWBBL.  It will play older projects with the EastWest Sounds Play tracks, but when I try to pull up the Play track properties to make adjustment on the instruments or try to add a new Synthesizer Play track, CWBBL pops up and error and closes. The stand alone Play functions as usual, only the plug-in VST3 has this issue. Where do I turn with this? The current versions of EW Play is 6.1.3, and CWBBL is 2019.09 (Build 68, 64 bit). Thanks for any help you can give. Zeisky

I haven´t been using Cakewalk for a while and when I started my Cakewalk computer I got a notice that I need to connect or stay in Demo-mode. I let the Bandlab assistant upgrade. Now some of my Modules like Tool, Snap and Transport is not working. Say I try to change the tempo or try to play.  Noting happens. The controls doen´t react. All other clickingseems to work.

I´m using Win7 on Parallells on my Mac.

If you exit and reopen BandLab Assistant, do you still see the app in Demo Mode?

I'm trying to help a friend  install and authorize some free plugins in (32 bit) Sonar Le 8.5 from Izotope. Installed  but couldn't find the plugins while trying to load them inside the daw.   I assumed they weren't in his scan path  but , I didn't have time to check his files.  I later checked "my" pc and found the files in my c\common files\vst3 folder.  All the Izotope software loads flawlessly on my pc in the same Sonar daw. The main confusion I have right now , is that the common files\vst3 folder doesn't show up in my scan path. Only the x86 folders.   Are common files automatically scanned without adding them in the plugin mgnr. or vst options ?  Could it have anything to do with also having CbB installed.  I've had more than a few problems in the past with plugins and I'm finding I'm not really sure how Cakewalk/Sonar even finds these vst(s) etc.   Thanks for any help ...          mark

SONAR 8.5 variants predate VST3 support, so you need to make sure anything installed for it is a VST2. On a 64-bit system, the stock scan path for Cakewalk/SONAR is C:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins on a 64-bit OS or C:\program files\cakwealk\vstplugins on a 32-bit OS. As Craig mentioned you can pick similar paths from the plugin installers, but you need to make sure Cakewalk/SONAR scans those.

VST3 uses a common path in the specification, so they all go C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

Hello . . . I've run into a very frustrating problem in a few of my Cakewalk by Bandlab projects, such that I'm thinking of porting them over to be Cubase projects.

The issue is that when I unfreeze a VSTi track, it actually has become a different Vsti track, and the track goes silent ?

So, here's the thing. I have a track that is a guitar sample program in Omnisphere VST3 . . .  I freeze that track, to save resources etc. . . . then in a later session I unfreeze that track to work on it again, but when I unfreeze it . . . it  is now a BFD3 drum track, which is another VSTi I am using in the project, and it plays back silent. When I click on the Synth rack view, it is still labelled as an Omnisphere  VST, but when you click to open that VST it opens as a BFD3 drum VST.

So,  yeah, I can cut and paste and recreate these Midi tracks, and recreate the proper VST programs, move it all back to where it was, but it has happened so many times in various projects, such a waste of time, and  . . . I think I'm done.

Hopefully my explanation of this bug is clear. Anybody else run into this, and have a solution ?

Do you have a project where this is reproducible? We have not seen this issue on our end, but if you have a project where we can verify, then we can work on a fix.

Is there something I should know about using Aux tracks in track templates?  I made a Snare Aux  for the 3 snare outs of Superior 3.  I also made a kick aux with the 3 kick outs from SD3 put in a few plugins etc.   I saved this as a track template.  Everything comes back as expected - except the aux's don't  talk to the tracks any more.  I tried to reconnect them.  Nothing seems to work to make them recognize their connections.  Anything I should know about trying to do this?

    Hi Max,

Unfortunately this is a known issue with aux tracks and track templates. It's logged in our system and will be addressed as soon as resources allow. Thanks!

Unable to install. The installer will only install over version 25.07.0.79, and I have 25.07.0.84 that Noel kindly sent me to test persistence of VCV Bridge plugin parameters (that BTW has been fixed in this update). Guess I´ll have to wait.

You can uninstall your current build and reinstall the 2019.07 release build from BandLab Assistant to grab the update (all of your settings will persist okay).
