    Hi John

To answer your question of tape speed when it comes to a 688 MIDI-STUDIO it only runs at the higher run through of 3.75 (apart from the pitch control which gives a variable speed of around 10%)  that is the 'standard speed' on this machine and doesn't run at the normal cassette speed... bet you wished you hadn't asked now :$

Your dead right about the 'dirty and fun' bit, but we were all so much younger then ....:P

Thanks for the title change but I ain't been into proper english since a kid ...buggered if I'll start now ... LOL

Thanks for message, and from one Luddite to another 'take care'

    Best regards

    Steve

Some of the "portastudios" as they were called, offered 2 speeds. I believe the Yamaha MT2X was one.  My Fostex also had only the higher speed.

  2. Nice arrangement.  I could hear a full orchestra play this for sure.

I take note that on your pic you have a violin on your shoulder.  Is that your main instrument?  Do you have a bit of that in this production?

  3. Sounds really good for an analogue recording.  Did you run the tape speed at 3.75 ips or standard?

I still have my old Fostex 160 multitracker from 1987.  It's in my basement with my Yamaha RX17 drum machine (1988).  Analogue was dirty but it was fun (kinda like sex😊).

BTW-Proper English in the title would be "You're The One".  😉

  4. I uploaded a link to a YouTube video I made and posted it on the Song forum.  Upon listening to it myself from Youtube I determined that the music track needed to be boosted in volume.  I corrected this on the video but this meant that I needed to re upload the video to a new URL.  I was hoping to change this on the song forum via the EDIT feature but it doesn't seem to want to let me remove the old URL and replace it with the new (louder) one.  Can this be done?

    Thanks

  5. Thanks, Bob.  Regarding Ginger-I got a call from the vet's office today and they did something very kind.  They made a plaster cast of her paw print in the shape of a heart.  It's adorable.  It's the perfect keepsake.  I cried again when they gave it to me.  I miss her so much.😢

    Thanks Bjorn!

  6. So, one person asks a question like "why is CbB free?" and it results in 8 pages (so far) of responses and discussions.  This happens so much that I really believe that some of you must have an insecure feeling that Meng and company are just going to  someday soon come along and pull the rug out from this whole thing and we will all be without this program.  Do some of us doubt Meng or Noel?  Even the guy at NAMM said something like it will be free FOREVER!!

Is the old saying "If something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is" creeping through some of our minds?

Don't you trust them?  I do.  Stop worrying and enjoy making music!

  7. I grew up in the 60s with the 45 RPM single and 12" 33 & 1/3 album (as many of you probably have or are at least familiar with).  I know that even with the resurgence of vinyl albums the 45 RPM single is not making a come back.  Maybe they should consider bringing the 45 RPM singles back too.  I mean, why not?  If people don't mind the clicks and pops on the LPs today they shouldn't mind it on the singles either.  The can make them out of the super 180grain (or whatever) kind of vinyl too.

With me, I don't really care much what the music's on.  My biggest concern is how it sounds.  And for my money the CD (Digital) at least so far is as clean a format as music was ever presented.  I know these new vinyl lovers talk about the "warmth of analogue" and if that's what they love fine. To each his/her own.  But I just can't hear warmth in vinyl, but I don't listen to music to hear warmth.  I listen to music to hear music.  I want to hear just music and not hiss or clicks and pops (or wow & flutter or any of of the old artifacts that came with records pre CD).  I like to hear pure music and the CD (or any other form of DIGITAL) gives me that.

Don't get me wrong.  I respect the vinyl.  It was Edison's baby and it gave people a way to listen to  and appreciate music in a way they could only dream of before it existed  and for over 100 years it was the mainstay of music.  It's production process was also fascinating.  But as with almost everything, somebody comes up with a new invention or process to make things better.  In music, it was digital (via the CD at first).

There will always be a place in my heart for LPs.  Vinyl gave me music in my young years and showed me how much of a joy it could bring me.  But I always wished it could be cleaner sounding and closer to live performance.  The CDs came along and gave me that too.

  8. Beautiful piece of work.  Brings down the blood pressure and makes one ponder the awesomeness of the universe.  Agree with the Frankin Institute planetarium.  I've been there too, although not in several years but I remember how great the show was.  There's another planetarium just a few blocks from my home.  Been to that one a few times.  Nice, but not quite as nice as the FI.

  9. EDIT-Tried to replace with new URL because I wanted to boost volume of audio.  Cannot remove video below so if you click on it it will not work.  Here is the URL with the explanation of the video.  Follow the URL directly below.  Thanks.

PS-If anybody could explain to me HOW to remove the dead link at the bottom I'd appreciate if you could let me know how.  Thanks!

  10. Simple but clever.  I really love the delay on the voice, but you might want to try setting whatever delay you're using to coincide with the tempo of your song.  It sounds like it drifts a bit at places.

  11. Hey, where's the beagle avatar??!! 😁

As always, you have a great message.  On my speakers your vocals are a bit too far upfront.  Yes, vocals should always be the center of the song, especially in a song with as an important message as this, but I can barely hear your instruments at all, except your drums.  Your guitar could come up a bit.

  12. Just a conversation starter for the Coffee House.  😀

Last week I bought the new release by one of my favorite artists.  "Fool" by Joe Jackson.

It's a great album and I love every track on it.  Weird thing I take notice is that it only has 8 tracks and the total time is less than 43 minutes. I'm not complaining as Mr. Jackson gave me my moneys worth of great new music but the short length made me wonder if this might be a coming trend.  Most albums released today that I've seen exceed an hour so I'm figuring that perhaps the new trend will be shorter album lengths again like back in the pre CD days.  Perhaps this might have to do with the fact that many people are trending back to vinyl LPs and it always was difficult to fit an hours worth of music on a 12" vinyl disc.  Other thoughts on this?

EDIT-Even though I bought the above mentioned album on CD, it is also available on vinyl, which is what got me thinking about what I suggested above.

Because being free and no cost to the user downloading it seems to me the very best way to see if it will work on one's system.  No need to try a demo just do it. Also the nature of the question implies a wish for others to do the testing.  That is fine if stated that way but it bothers me a little when its implied.

You're being a bit uppity here, aren't you?  First of all, unlike you, I'm NOT always in the middle of a project.  Sometimes after I finish one I can go weeks and weeks in between.  But when I'm in the middle of one I don't want to find myself dealing with a DAW that doesn't load or has developed other bugs that impede it's functionality.  If I see others having  issues (as I saw with this particular update) I hold off until my current project is finished.  THEN I DO THE "TESTING" MYSELF!

Also, who in the hell said anything about a DEMO?!   I've been using Cakewalk by Bandlab since April 2018.  The issue is an UPDATE!

Free or not, a DAW that suddenly doesn't function well (because of a new bug or whatever) is useless at least until the bug is fixed.

I just wanted to make myself clear.  Sorry if I offended your sensitivities.  Thank you for all your useful contributions to the cause.

  14. Thank you all for your kind words & thoughts.  After thinking on it all week the thing that bothers me the most is how it happened on Tuesday morning.  I got up at 3 AM to feed her (not unusual) and she seemed fine.  She was hungry and ready as always to eat her breakfast.  I then went back to bed and came back out at 5.  After I showered I took notice that she had vomited 3 times on the floor.  It was clear and mucousy despite the fact that there was food in her stomach (she cleaned out her bowl, so she was hungry).  A few minutes later she started dry heaving and her belly was as solid as a football.  Then I knew something was wrong.  It was too early to call the vet but her symptoms got worse and worse till she was barking and whimpering (she rarely barked).  My baby must have been in such terrible pain and I felt so bad because  I couldn't help her.  It seemed like forever till my vet's office opened and I could take her down there.  I was hoping it was something that could be cured but I was also preparing myself for the end because of her age.  Sure enough, the vet said it was probably cancer and there wasn't much she could do for Ginger.  She suggested putting her down.  I wanted to hold her but she was so uncomfortable I didn't want to make her hurt more.  I told her I loved her and thanked her for blessing my life for 15 years.  The worst thing is that I couldn't take her pain away.  Her daddy couldn't help her.  I never felt so helpless in my life.  I can't get Tuesday morning off my mind.

    😢

  15. Yeah, I think I'll keep it there for awhile.   What you said about pets making the world a better place is so true.  There is so much stupidity going on in the world around us and every day it seems as if the world as I know it and grew up in is falling apart piece by piece.  When it starts to get too much for me I put on a youtube video of some puppy dogs or pussy cats and I instantly feel better.  Sometimes I really think that they are smarter than people.
