  1. I have the Tracktion 106 RetroMod, but I uninstalled it a while back to save some disk space. That's the problem with sampled synths, they take up a lot of disk space, which can be a waste if you never use them. Unlike collecting modeled synths that take up very little space. The only sampled synths that still have a home on my system are those from the IK Syntronik. Erik Norlander has done an excellent job of sampling an extensive collection of vintage synths for IK. He was on the team that designed the original Alesis Andromeda analog synth in the 90's, so he knows a thing or two about synths. https://eriknorlander.com/bio
  2. That's true, but the message I got from the author is that you don't actually need more libraries to sound good, just the knowledge of how to use what you already have!
  3. I bought the first volume. Interesting concept! But orchestration is really only intended to make a good song sound better. Keep trying! You might try to find an available MIDI score of a well known song. Load that into your DAW and play around with orchestration using that. Should remove the writing and arranging pressure, until you are ready to apply the technique to your own creations...

    MODO BASS 2

    Ya, same here!
  5. I'm confused now. I though Computer Music was best? Their May issue is now out with a free Syntronik 2 J-60 included...
  6. Not sure how far one might get trying to emulate this organic sound with a conventional synthesizer using virtual analog waveforms and/or wavetables. Perhaps this effort might be better served with physical modeling, as used by the AAS Chromaphone 3 synth? Chromaphone 3 showcases eight physically modeled acoustic resonators. Mix and match strings, plates, drumheads, membranes, beams, bars, and tubes to reproduce real-life instruments or create original ones. I didn't see a pre-made handpan in the library, but it does have some cool preset examples of pitched percussion. Perhaps a starting point ...
  7. Arturia V Collection 8 official thread https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/search.php?keywords="windows+7"&t=557187&sf=msgonly
  8. Just FYI, after you buy Komplete from iZotope, you will need to enter the provided activation code into your Native Access to activate and download your new NI products. They won't show up in the iZotope Product Portal.
  9. I already had the full Kontakt (crossgraded for 50% off at $124 a while back), and plenty of other keys, basses, guitars, & drums. Also have numerous FX such as Amplitube 5, T-RackS 5, Eventide, iZotope MPS 4.1, Kilohearts, Waves, etc. So I justified this $179 Komplete 13 deal solely on gaining Absynth, FM8, Massive X, Noire, Reaktor 6, Session Horns, and Session Strings. May take a look at the Session Guitarists, but already have that covered with Orange Tree Samples for Kontakt. For example, full retail for Massive X is $199, Noire $149, Reaktor 6 $199, etc. Plus a number of Massive expansions are included that retail for $29 each. I also installed all of the additional NI FX because they don't take up much space, and I was curious to see if any are better than any of the ones I have.
  10. I tried the Vital free version first, and then decided to support the developer by upgrading to Vital Pro. It's that good! Surge is also a great synth and has been around for many years. Definitely worth having around, but not as easy to use as Vital! I think that the Surge wave shaping reminds me of z3ta+.
  11. Same. But they have not updated the user manual in a significant way with new feature coverage since version 8. IMHO that's a big deal for a "once in a creative while" DAW. 🙄
  12. $179.10 (+ tax) with NERDS10 and I'm in !!! 👍
  13. It's not a buyout, rather an internal reorg.
  14. The one commitment made by Meng as he acquired the rights to the Cakewalk software was that the Cakewalk DAW would be free for as long as it exists. That would preclude it from ever reverting to a payware model.
  15. Actually, BandLab Technologies formed Caldecott as a new company brand. Similar to the way Facebook formed Meta, or Google formed Alphabet. It was not "acquired". "With a history of growing a broad range of music-focused businesses, BandLab Technologies announces an organisational transformation with the introduction of new company brand, Caldecott Music Group (CMG). CMG will oversee the long-term planning, investment, and development of three newly-formed divisions: BandLab Technologies, Vista Musical Instruments, and NME Networks." The topic title "BandLab Technologies Reorganized" is correct. Just clarifying the details with the company released statement. Plus there is also this related statement: "Digital division BandLab Technologies will double down on designing and developing innovative tools and services for the next generation of music creators, with a vision for a future where there are no boundaries to making and sharing music. The group unites digital audio workstation Cakewalk, and flagship social music creation platform BandLab, which hosts a user base of 40 million creators globally and the recently announced acquisition of artist services platform ReverbNation."
  16. Waves has not issued any new updates for this since yesterday. Seems to be a hit or miss issue, everyone is apparently not affected. Probably why it passed QA checks at Waves. Windows 10.
  17. Thanks! Just wondered if having paths beyond only the boot drive might be an issue here. But apparently not...
  18. I don't recall specifically for the CR8 installer, but in Cosmos you can reconnect folders that you have moved from their original scanned location. Until the cosmos.sqlite db decides to take a dump.
  19. Were your sample folder paths only on your "C:" drive, or elsewhere?
  20. All of my local folder references are now missing from Cosmos, except for the one provided by Waves. They were all there before the update. My original sample folders are still there on my "D:" drive. I can add them and re-scan into Cosmos, but that shouldn't be necessary. Very time consuming! ADSR Sample Manager still has all of them listed here, so I'm thinking it is just a Waves issue...
  21. So sorry! But thanks for confirming... Waves is likely to get a lot of hate mail for this one.
  22. Just a heads up here, and it may only be me, but this library update clobbered all of my listed sample folders in the Cosmos browser, except for the built-in one. Going to try to restore the "cosmos.sqlite" db that I backed up yesterday from the " \AppData\Local\Waves Audio\Waves Plugin Server" path. Edit: No luck with restore, even after restoring the full "Waves Plugin Server" folder. Way to go Waves! 🙄
  23. I've got a spare 64GB. Spare $500? Nope.
