That ought to keep you busy for the next 40 or 50 years xD

I have read reviews of people that took some lessons from him in the 70's that swear it changed their lives still to this day. Everything I am finding out about this guy is he was a great teacher and person.

Hard to believe I never heard of this guy till today. On a damn western show!!

I picked one up but haven't had the time to put it together yet...

Some heads up, I sorted all the parts, then taped them to a sheet of paper, then marked them so as I worked, I could just look at the directions, see what I needed to grab, and was able to get the right part easily.

Also I use one of these to help put the part in, then flip it and solder. I had it already from doing soldering on my guitar pots/pups. So, me being cheap I didn't buy this until after I finished the build!!  Will use it on my next build!! LOL :)

Another heads up: I find the white LED way too bright. Even in the daytime. I will take it back apart and fix that at some point.

  3. PSA post:

Just happened to be watching an old western show called "The Deputy" (with Henry Fonda).

All of a sudden I heard some guitar licks coming from the TV that surprised the heck out of me!! I mean this was no standard run of the mill stuff. Who ever was playing that guitar was good. I mean REAL good.

Did some digging and found out a guitarist named James Marshall was the music director for the show. He hired a guy named Howard Roberts to play. He let him improvise over the stuff he wrote for the show.

Wow, the show is worth the watch just to hear him play!!

And if your not into westerns, here is a YouTube video.

  4. Agree with others about getting your guitar setup by a professional. You will get the most improvement that way.

After that, lots of practice will help get you going in the right direction. There is no way around it if you would like to do it right.

And then there are the shortcuts that you know and others have mentioned. Nothing wrong with that at all. If it gets the job done, who cares?

But to get your fingers in shape will take time, effort, and a lot of pain!! Just stick with it, it is worth it.

It looks highly unlikely that there will be a preferential price.

I would agree with this. We may be surprised when it does come out. I mean you never know.

But I highly doubt it. As a old time user, I don't think I am owed anything. BUT... if they give a break, I will take it!! :)

  6. Welcome to the new Forum of CW.

Just to give you a heads up.. Bandlab is about to release Cakewalk Sonar, and it will be a paid for DAW. I think Cakewalk by Bandlab will remain free but will not be  receiving anymore updates.

I think I am remembering this correctly.

  8. I agree with you mibby. Never seen them this low coming from UA direct with a FULL warranty. And that's with FREE Shipping!!

When I got my first Apollo, it changed the way I recorded. I have never had so many choices when recording my vocals or guitar and bass. These choices are using SSL/Neve/API/Helios. And this is all with NO Latency!! My PC doesn't even break a sweat.

I am not trying to talk anyone into getting this. But if you have a good mic, want really great home recordings, vocals, guitars and bass that seem to mix themselves, you might want to grab one!!

    Here's the original:

After seeing this I realize that the song was originally done with a drum machine.

The first video you posted was the drummer 'playing along with' the song! That was a feat of great talent, and timing!!

This is at 176 bpm. He uses 3 drumsticks at one point.

Well that was totally unexpected.  That middle-eastern/Turkish sounding music was spell binding!! I watched the whole thing. He said a lot of good stuff at the end. I will be on the lookout for the release of his band music. I would to hear what he thinks is simple.

  11. Best thing anyone told me was some young kids that snuck into the bar after we shut it down. This was around 4 in the morning. I was rolling up cables when they walked up to me and started asking how I was getting the sound I got on 'Cult of Personality ". All I could think of to tell them was I just go for it!

You have to understand my thinking at the time. I know I am no Vernon Reid. So most of you that has done this know I was doing the best I could. We played it the first set at the end. Then again somewhere in the middle of another set. Then again as the very last song. So I am trying to at least do as good as I did the time we played it!!

Anyway, them kids told me they had never heard sounds like that come from a guitar. :) They went on about how I was a this and that..... on and on. Finally bass player looked over at us and said to run them kids outta here.

I still remember that. Hope I inspired them to "just go for it!"

I like the vibe very much and the grunting bass contrasts nicely with the piano. I'd build something around that for sure.

I agree with this. Need to expand that a little.

didn't tell him that his hometown smelled like McDonalds farts.

No need. He knew it already.

My aunt and uncle lived in Lutcher, right next door to Gramercy.  Just outside of Gramercy was a Kaiser aluminum plant.

I went to live with them. Know that smell well.

  14. Welcome WingIt. Glad you could join us. The Coffeehouse (we call it "down here") is well off the beaten path. But you will find some really good people around these parts.

When ya need more specific help as you develop your workflow, probably best to ask in another section of the forum. If your unsure, just ask us down here and we will get you to the right place.
