I'm in, purchase made, Install done, off to play.

Oh, Man.  Totally.  It's been 21 hours - what do you think?  I was considering getting MIKKO on sale but I have so many IRs, it's hard to walk away from them.  This looks like it could make them all a lot more interesting.

  2. Do the IR packs work within Mikko2 or are they static IRs that would be used in something like NadIR?  In other words, if I buy an IR pack, would they work in the free version of Mikko2 with all of the mic position options?  They just show a dude playing a guitar in the Zilla cabs video and no mention of Mikko2.

  3. This has been a banner week for inspirational marketing copy.

“Get the sound of the Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor RW quilted maple in your DAW as a virtual instrument. Sandberg is the second largest bass company in Germany, producing absolute top-quality instruments. The smell of this beautiful woodwork in the shape of a VST3 and AU plug-in will burn your DAW.”

I used it to get Kirchhoff for $25, thanks

Isn't it a minimum of $100 for the $75 vouchers?  I was looking at that but thought I would have to add another tuner for $5 but all the cheap stuff is regular price.

  5. I love it.  I usually build the song with SD3 and transpose MIDI with MIDI Remap.  It sounds excellent but yes, the UI can be a challenge.  And the authentication issues have burned some but they’ve largely been overcome. It includes 7 kits that I still prefer, sonically, to what is in SD3.  Comparatively speaking, I don’t think AD2 or EZD3 are “better” than BFD3 (I think the samples in BFD3 are much better) but Toontrack changed everything by focusing on supporting workflow and an amazing user experience.  I can’t live without SD3 for that reason.

For the money (free) I find the SSD5 free kit and presets to be an excellent option if you don’t want/can’t sink money into a platform like Toontrack.

November is Metal Month at Toontrack—If you’re leaning toward Toontrack, I would wait to see if there’s any incentive to pick up EZD3.  Otherwise,  BFD3 at $49 is a great deal, but I’m well entrenched in that ecosystem already.

  6. I think you should keep posting while cruising.  This way, you can reduce your wait times by pulling any musicians out of the queue as soon as the big deals show up in the Deals forum.  Maybe hit VI Control, too?  By the time the cruise is done, their wives will have created a support group…Spouses Against GAS.

Good news is that old one is kept , two diff install ....so if this one is a cpu hogg as i suspect , i will roll back on the og one ...

Hey, Zo - everything I've read says this is MUCH lighter on CPU; it's been optimized for eventual use on the Quad Cortex.

There is a paid version that has the mixer so to me this free version serves more as a teaser, a nice one though it seems. Unfortunately I won't be able to download the library because I still use old version of NI Access, the website claims it requires Kontakt 6 Player but video is already showing Kontakt 7 Player and the newer NI Access where the 'download' button pops-up but here in the old NI Access there's only 'locate', too bad.

If you hit "Install", it will start the download - at least that's how its working here.  I reverted back to an older version of Native Access because the new one, well...

  9. Drew has really been amazing over these years managing BFD; I was pleased to see him on the Forum not just because so many of us have been concerned since the hand-off to InMusic, but also due to his composure and candor.  He's battled naysayers and skeptics for years (I, too, was one of them) but as long as he hasn't given up, I haven't given up.  BFD Player is more than a sign of life - I think it gives a wink to strategy and the desire to bring a modern user experience to what I (IMHO) think are the best sounding drums out there - BFD3. YMMV.
