  1. I doubt that compression is that kind of magic! 😄 Although there is some difference using different compressors, IMHO it is possible to get very similar results with compressors of the same group (vca, fet, opto, ...). Maybe the settings of different makes are not exactly the same.

I still use my old DBX 166 from the 80s as recording input limiting/leveling. Frankly, the time when I purchased it I had no idea how to set it up! 😆

I am getting a very odd save error. I always use save as. When I try save as, I choose an incremented number like song 01, song 02. With this new version, I get odd errors. I used save as 4 times the file never got saved. I get a new directory with the file name in it each time, but no .cwp ????  Cakewalk says there is already a file by this name. If I answer no. The directory seems to already be written. When I say yes get the "Blue title bar error.

You can see the created folders in error 6

Save with same name reply yes - error 5

Am I the only one that can't to save as? This has happened on 3 different songs.

I could do a video if i need to. Please help!

    This is A.I. !!! 😄

Frankly the project saving logic is terribly intransparent, since the change with the automatic folder! There are also problems with the audio copy if you have a project that uses audio clips in and out of the project folder. Thus I usually use the Windows File Explorer to copy the project or the whole directory however it is the idea!

  3. It does not work in ProChannel and if I instantiate the Player as FX, I am able to drop the free library into  REmatrix, but there are no presets available! Strange!

But now I remember why I dropped REmatrix (except in ProChannel), it has been necessary to authorize the Player itself (crazy, cos it's free!)! And as the only offline authorization for Overloud is an USB stick I passed! With more and more cumbersome authorizations and installations (managers!) I am abstinent to more and more plugin developers! Good for my wallet! 😆

I think you’re missing my point.

In all the companies I’ve ever worked for, there has been a set of file format standards so that daily work can be performed as efficiently as possible. Nobody has time or motivation to convert between multiple document formats, if that’s even possible (in my example above with Review/Track Changes, it’s not). So, I’m not saying that any of these document formats is better than the other, I’m saying that corporations have to decide upon a standard document format to avoid waste of time and loss of information. And that would more often be Microsoft Word, or should I say Microsoft Office, than anything else. Just Google for number of tutorials available

Personal preferences has nothing to do with it.

    Yes, I understand your argumets.

But are Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Pro Tools really more professional than others? Nowadays, if someone is dominating the market in a certain area, this does definitely not mean that their product is best, is professional! IMHO those 4 companies are technically not professional at all (and one could list a lot of reasons why)! Thus I think your wording has been quite provocative! 😄

In a professional working environment, I would say it's impossible to use anything but Microsoft Word.

    What a lordly statement! 😄

Sorry, that I don't agree! E.g. OpenOffice was really advanced with their file format (much earlier than MS) that allowed to make program-created documents! I clearly remember the trouble when we tried to create MS documents in the IT of a very large company! At that time we would have loved the professional design of OpenOffice compared to the Microsoft patchwork! 😉

Commands will always target focus first, then selection. Windows apps have always worked this way - the focussed control receives always receives the command, then the command decides what to do.

Right click doesn't always change focus - left click does (or alternatively you can use Tab to move focus around).

Thanks a lot for the explanation! The only thing that I had expected, was that the focus behavior is exactly the same for left click selection and right rectangular selection. But it seems it is not and I will accept this!

As I said earlier the only reason I switched to right rectangular selection is that my hand does not work so precisely and thus with the selection click I often moved the clip a bit and that's fatal!

Selecting a clip or note by any method will not move the track focus, but the most recently selected/highlighted object should most definitely be the target of a delete command regardless of where the track focus is.. I can't replicate what you describe.

So it looks like it is a bug. I just re-tried and I can reproduce it very simply:

    1. New project, new audio track.
    2. Insert any audio clip.
    3. Add a single FX plugin.
    4. Select the clip with the right mouse button (rectangle over the clip region).
    5. Press delete > the FX plugin is deleted!

This happens on 2 very different machines, with CbB 2022.11 . It is especially dangerous if the FX area is out of view (e.g. scrolled away)! It's exactly what happened to me several times.

I purchased MPS 5.2 in July of this year (I have a receipt marked MPS 5.2) but it's showed as MPS 5.1 in the Product Portal and I can see only the higher offer price $229 on the iZotope site.
I asked iZotope Support and they insist that there is no MPS 5.2, only MPS 5.1 plus extra.
What the heck is going on...

Just purchase the upgrade to MPS 6 on JRRshop for $41.16 (with code GROUP)! You will get a MPS 6 serial that you can enter in the Product Portal of iZotope!

Yes, that's what I see in my account at izotope.  I bought the Izotope Everything Bundle but my account clearly shows that I own MPS 5 too.

Then again, my attempt to register my new MPS 6 S/N just failed.  I get an error msg saying: "We were unable to add this serial to your account."

You just have to do this with their Product Portal, that works! And as soon I have installed it on my laptop it appears on my products page.

  10. Yesterday I noticed the reason for a long time problem:

When I selected a clip (or a MIDI note) with the right mouse button and pressed delete, it seemed nothing had happened! But now I found out that although the clip has been selected, the delete focus is still on the plugin that I had opened before and thus the plugin is deleted instead of the clip! Aaaarg! I lost quite some stuff!

Selecting the clip with a mouse click instead works as expected (but I have avoided this method because sometimes I moved the clip a little bit unintentionally with my unprecise mouse handling!).

My question: Is this intentional behavior that selecting something with the right mouse button does not move the focus?

If I understand this issue correctly .... I thought it has existed by design for many years, not only in Cakewalk but most other DAWS, and is strictly the result of how you set your Pan Laws. Is there something else going on outside of the Pan Law settings?

I agree to your finding. But if you choose export option "Clips" and the clips are just mono, then I think it is odd when the clip gain changes! In this case the pan law or interleave of the track should not affect the export IMHO. If you want that the track affects the export then you can select "Tracks" as export option and just select the time/track matching the clip!

  12. I am a bit jealous if I see the prices you paid! I got it for $40.99 at EveryPlugin (thanks to @cclarry, by the way it's still available for that).

But this plugin is worth it in any case, it's simply great! The best channel strip that I ever have bought! I could have saved a lot of money if I had passed on the compressors and so on that it replaces! 😄

My reading of this @MarcL is you will need to be online JUST to activate it, after activation it will work offline. Of course it may need to be online activated once a year or something similar

I guess also that it is only for activation, but as you said it maybe for each 6 months. My music computers are usually offline (one is 100m away from the net) and I don't like to break this rule all the time! I already have to handle some exceptions and that's enough. There is a lot of pain with installers and permanent updates, I don't need another job doing cumbersome authorization that jeopardizes system stability by being online (Windows updates! I know you can pause, but this does not always work).

The other thing that bothers me is that the statements about Cakewalk always change! Once they said that you can use CbB all the time (including offline auth) and now it is suddenly restricted to this latest, forced version. How can we be sure that we are able to use this one in some years?

@better5150 Does Bandlab have plans to deactivate the newly released/final version of Cakewalk By Bandlab after a certain period of time? For example, Bandlab gives a certain window of time say 6 months or a year after the final release it will be de-activated, as the company has shifted to Sonar. Or will the final version of Cakewalk by Bandlab work for as long as the user has it on their system (of course, realizing that it will no longer have updates, so it may cease to work at some point, but Bandlab will not intentionally take action to stop it from working).

AFAIK they said once that you will be able to use this final version as long as you want. But if I consider the reality that I have seen with Cakewalk, then I know that you never can be sure what will happen in the future! Especially whether you will be able to install CbB on a new PC again when you have to exchange your computer. Also the half year re-authorization has raised my distrust ever since and it seems with good cause!

If you wish to continue to use CbB, you must update to the 2023.09 version when it is released to the public. Earlier versions will cease to activate in the future.

Version 2023.09 currently does not support offline activation, so your computer must be online to activate it.

The word "currently" maybe important for me in conjunction with the upper statement! If there would be no offline activation, then I will be out (hope that Sonar Platinum still will work in this case and in any case I have R....),
