I'd rather have WAV than MP3 so Audiophile sounds like the better option.

The UltraPak comes with compressed WMA files, not MP3's.   The AudioPhile version comes with uncompressed WAV files.   So AudioPhile is the same as ULTRA PAK except that all of the Real Tracks are uncompressed - in the full resolution.        WMA is not as "lossy" as MP3.

  2. Thought the production was pretty cool, then listened through headphones and got a whole new experience.   What you have done with the spaces is quite exceptional.   Had to have a couple listens through:)   Could definitely hear this in a movie or TV show soundtrack.

  3. Nice, like the song, performance, groove, mix, etc...   It is quite amazing to me how you all play off each other even though this is an Internet collab.

I wouldn't worry about polishing "mistakes."   If they are there it is not anything obvious.    Having looked at pro-mix multi-tracks over the years I am actually surprised the number of mistakes that exist when you solo instrument tracks or vocal performances.    If you took away the collection of performance (groove, articulation, etc.) and mistakes (timing, bad note, noise bleed, etc) away it wouldn't be the same song.    I guess that is why I don't listen to newer music that is perfected to the point of sterility:)

    Great work.

  4. Tim,

Great track, what a way to start a Monday morning:)      Will look forward to having a look through the demo project, fun stuff.

Excellent example of how constraints don't limit good songwriters or musicians, i.e., I only have 4 tracks, don't have the right equipment, don't have good enough plugins, I only have a drum take from 2015, etc....  In many cases, and I have certainly been guilty of this, people obsess over things only they will notice or that don't really matter.   Just hit record and see what happens:)  In the regard, I kind of miss using tape.  You certainly proved that you can write a great song around a good drum performance, and a great mix using stock DAW plugins.    Fantastic work.

  5. Nice one Bat.      Tele sounds really good, I have a Tele and absolutely love it, it is a very versatile guitar.

Great listen.  Didn't hear the first mix but this one sounds good.

  6. Would have a hard time discerning from the original.   Recording is a little cleaner, more modern, but it sounds very much like the original.    Surprising how you are able to capture Ozzy's tone and vibe, I have never heard anyone really come close.   Really good listen.

  7. Pricey but quite excellent.   Just picked Envolution on sale for $108.   Looks like Sonnox still has a sale going on their website at around $100USD.

Any transient designer should work for the purpose described.

  8. KSband,

Nice track, really shines when the sax comes in.  Super relaxing track.

I have felt the bass was kind of muddy and have played with EQ quite a bit but doesn't get much better. I think it might be my sloppy bass playing letting the notes ring out over each other.

Try a Transient Designer on the Bass to shorten up the sustain, give it a bit more punch and clarity.    May be much easier correction than EQ'ing.   Oxford Envolution would be a good option for this task.

  9. Nigel,

Really awesome song, mix  and overall production.   Had a few listens through and quite enjoyed it.

Cool video, although I hope you didn't pay the lady's boyfriend/love interest too much as his performance was very wooden:)

  10. That was good fun and well produced.

You kind of left the audience hanging though,  did you ever find a decent cup of coffee?   My guess is not.  After a few weeks in Oz had a rough time with the coffee back here:)

  11. John,

Cool song.     The drums seem like they are pulling back on the song,  I might look at a half-time shuffle to propel the song forward while not distracting from what is there.   I think it would work with your current bass line as well.      Listen to a song like Home Again by Steely Dan as a reference for this idea.

If you have the Toontrack Custom and Vintage kit, check out Grooves ‘Swing 4/4 > Song 3 > 120bpm’   Some great fill ideas and cymbal variations in there as well.

  12. Really well done, everything is balanced nicely.    Interesting melody and harmony..... really like the horn countermelody when it comes in.    The countermelody has both an uplifting and ominous quality at the same time.    Very cool track, good use of tempo changes, articulation/expression, space, etc....

I am very tempted by this. The Padgham kit I have for BFD is OK, but...

The Thomann price is £140 in the UK due to VAT.  I may wait but new SDX don't go on sale for ages after release.

I got it on Thomann site for $133 USD yesterday.

Very good release, I also have the Hugh Padgham Sonic Reality Kit for BFD, but this is a whole different level of quality and flexibility.    Never really used the BFD one a lot but will definitely use this Toontrack version.   It covers many different 80's and 90's styles and has a unique way of using the drum machines, which are also included.   I have Spark2 by Arturia that are really good copies of the originals drum machines, however, interesting to see Hugh's method of also recording the drum machines live in studio where the drum kits were also recorded.      Gives a very polished sounds with little effort.

    Understatement of the year.  😊

I've missed hearing Tony's work here as it was always top notch.

Listening on lappy speakers only, but even so the mix comes across very well.

    Paulo,

Thanks for the listen.   Yes, there are a lot of talented people that dropped off the old forum or didn't make the transition to the new forum, too many to mention.   Tony was definitely one of those, other than some compression and reverb, that was his performance, didn't tune or tweak anything.

Thank you Mark, true nothing we can do to stay the march of time, though this has a second probably not so obvious story of loss of something we all need but some lose.

Yes, unfortunately I know that secondary part of the story as well.  Absolutely devastating for family members and close friends.   You did a fine job conveying the message.
