So I originally wanted to reply toi this particular comment here:
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3759001

But, of course, I realized not only was it years old and forum no longer active but I think this should be put out there for a larger audience to benefit from.
As an artist, copyrighting things of course would quickly become expensive if done track by track. Now this may be most true for composer like myself who actually write what they record and mix later note by note and end up with sheet music and tabs for all of it. The cost of copyrighting every song I've written would easily be in the thousands of dollars range by now.

So to shed some light, I must say this... (though, I'm not sure, maybe this is just common knowledge I didn't do a search to check out public awareness beforehand...):
    - Go through the Library of Congress website directly.
    - Pay the one time cost for copyrighting an EDITION.
    And done.

It used to be about $25 last I checked I'm sure it's more nowadays. But the point is: an Edition can contain any number of pages/entries. And an edition can be added to and updated as needed indefinitely. This also is a good way of just accounting for and aggregating your pieces as an artist on the public record before releasing it to the public for consumption.

Anyone have any knowledge regarding this comment from Slipping into Sanity? I can't find any reference to an "EDITION" on the copyright.gov website.

Just saw reference to this NVIDIA custom installer.  I have AMD Radeon so I can't test it.

    NVCleanstall v1.16.0 Download | TechPowerUp

NVCleanstall lets you customize the NVIDIA GeForce Driver package by removing components that you don't need (or want). This not only keeps things tidy, but also lowers disk usage and memory footprint.

Unlike the NVIDIA custom installation, you can unselect packages like "Stereo 3D Glasses", "USB-C", Notebook Optimizations or Telemetry from the NVIDIA drivers.

Bleh. Having same issue as last time I tried a dedicated Video Card.

Not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong or need to adjust? I installed the Gigabyte RTX 3060 card and installed minimum stuff using their installer. Even did a re-install using the NVCleanInstall option (thanks Jack Stoner).

LatencyMon showing NVIDIA as the culprit.

Samsung and one of the Sony TV's are connected to HDMI ports on GTX 3060.
One Sony is connected via an active Display Port to HDMI cable (all TVs have HDMI only and GTX3060 has 2 HDMI and 2 DP).
All displays look great and are at native resolutions (3840x2160, 60Hz).  Samsung is in Landscape and Sony's are in Portrait.

I'm not gamer, etc. and am not at all savvy when it comes to GPU's.

Any suggestions? Should I disable on-board graphics (or does that even mater)? Using a pretty powerful PC, dedicated to just running Cakewalk.

FYI, the MSI link I provided says "The fans completely stop when temperatures are relatively low.".
    Anyway, it's your choice. 🙂

Yeah, saw that - thanks.. I've used Gigabyte motherboards in the past and they worked well so I'll give them a shot.

As far as I know, the MSI RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC has a function called "ZERO FROZR" that automatically stops the fans completely at relatively low temperatures.

Thanks HIBI and Jim! The MSI that HIBI mentioned does seem to slow the fans at lower temperatures. I'm going to trust Jim's judgement and go with a Gigabyte card: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060. It has a lot of reviews that specifically mention how quiet it is.

I'd want to make sure the card has semi-passive cooling.

IOW, The fans won't run while you're working with DAW software (meaning it's completely silent).

    Download drivers directly from Nvidia.

Brand itself isn't much of a concern.

Regarding using a TV as a monitor:

Make sure the TV doesn't suffer from excessive lag.

This will result in sluggish mouse movement/etc.

Whatever the display, make sure it can do 4k with at least a 60Hz refresh.

Slower refresh (30Hz) can cause eye-strain headaches.  If you haven't suffered migraines, this is almost guaranteed to cause one.  🤪

I tend to favor dedicated video monitors... as these issues are moot.  You can even get "Smart Monitors" that have built-in TV Streaming.

Thanks Jim! I am looking specifically at MSI GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6.  It looks like the fans are pretty quiet and speed is adjustable. I've changed my mind on the 2 new TVs. My main Samsung AU8000 has good picture quality so I'm going with (2) 50" Samsung Q60A Series TVs (4k. 60Hz, 3840x2160) - same specs as the AU8000.

I was thinking of going up to 120Hz model, but I don't know if that would make any difference as far as Cakewalk display is concerned. Cakewalk seems to render fine on the 60Hz model. Any opinion on 60Hz versus 120Hz?

I'm saying you want to avoid AMD's latest video cards... especially if you're pushing the limits of ultra low latency audio performance.

I use Nvidia RTX cards in many builds... including two of my own.  They work just fine.

ie: A 13900k based machine (with RTX video card) can run IK's ToneX (similar to Kemper but in a plugin) at sub 1ms total round-trip latency.

I'm revamping my setup and will be using (3) 4k TV's as monitors. Main monitor is Samsung 55" 4k UHD AU8000. Thinking about (2) Toshiba 50C350LU 50" TVs as side monitors (flanking the Samsung on left and right in Portrait mode).

What is the difference between the various "flavors" of the RTX cards? I'm looking at the RTX 3060 12GB GDRR6 card. Does it matter if it's branded MSI, EVGA, etc.? Is there a better option (RTX 3050, etc.)? I'm note well versed in the nuances of video cards. Not a gamer at all - this setup is strictly for Cakewalk.

Side note: Opinions on the quality of the Toshiba TV welcome - I've never owned one...

    Dear All,

since my new install on the new W10 laptop I suffer from a bug in the windows management (but only CW has this problem, other apps are OK).
I hope somebody can give me a direction on how to fix this. Right now I have no more ideas.

I work with 2 screens, the 17"-laptop FHD and a 27" 4K. I use the laptop for the console view and plugins within the MultiDock and the 4K for the track view.
The behavior on the new PC was strange from day one: When I minimize the MultiDock window in the laptop screen it disapears completely (no minimized view) an there is no way to bring it back. The only way to restore it is to close the project an reopen it.

Did somebody see this before me? Any idea is highly welcome!

    Best regards,

    Peter

See this discussion and especially the entry by msmcleod. Should solve your problem!

  8. Anyone know why I don't (and have never) seen all my Versions of Sonar under "Connected Products" in Command Center? I have licenses for X1, X2, etc. but only see Platinum in Command Center. I've already got all the installers downloaded and backed up for safekeeping, but was wondering if I could download some of the unique plugins that came with prior versions (without running the installers) - if that is even possible.

I will be doing just that but the timing of all this is bad. I have 4 gigs lined up so my focus is on practicing and fine tuning some backing tracks.
I also just redid my computer with 3 new SSD drives and upgraded from 10 GB to 32 GB of RAM. I just don’t have time possibly until later this Summer.  Thanks for your support.

Sounds good - best of luck on the gigs!

No need for a fresh install of Windows or anything for that matter.

Re-run the Cakewalk installers as needed, use full or advanced install options as desired and if you end up installing a legacy Cakewalk DAW (the actual DAW itself not just the plug-ins only from an advanced install) make sure to re-run the CbB install when done.

If that is too much, just run the legacy installers any way you want and always re-install CbB when done running legacy installers.

Here is a more detailed discussion including a link io a legacy plug-in spreadsheet

Thanks scook! I did a search and did not find that topic - sorry for the redundancy! I'll test it out. With all the changes happening want to make sure I get access to all the older stuff I paid for before they possibly disappear...
