  1. Terry, thanks for that info. I tried that but it still doesn't work for me. If I try to use CbB x64 V-Vocal on a file that was created in a 32 bit version it will work, but won't work with a file created with the 64 bit version of CbB. Incidentally, the newest release Melodyne 5.0 contains new tools that largely negate the necessity of using V-Vocal such as the ability to manipulate vibrato and do fades, don't know if that's good or not. I am still going to hang on to V-Vocal, just because! :) Wade Windows 10 Pro x64, 16G Ram, Gigabyte MoBo, Intel i7, 500G SSD. Etc., etc., etc...
  2. scook, I'm not sure it matters any more either because it doesn't appear to be a fixable "problem", if it ever really was a problem. It is interesting as a discussion topic I think. Two things still puzzle me, hearing what you have already explained about V-Vocal. 1, At some point in the past, V-Vocal DID in fact work in CbB with Windows 7, the panel located itself lower right and could not be undocked and moved (inconvenient, but still useable). 2. I find it very intriguing that V-Vocal will only still work in the 32 bit version of Sonar X2 but will not work in the 64 bit version of Sonar X2, Sonar Platinum or CbB. Also at some point in the past, maybe around the same time V-Vocal stopped working in CbB, I completely updated my Windows 7 pro x64 OS, since I knew I would not get support for it any longer. It could well be that I should have just left my Win7 OS alone and not updated. In any event, I appreciate your insights, not everyone in this community has the knowledge and expertise, but even at my age I am interested enough to try to keep learning. Wade C.
  3. I heard from Cakewalk about this situation, here is his reply. Notice there is NO reference to a 64-bit version of this plugin. I did his suggestion, but nothing is changed. I think I'll just have to be content using my 32 bit versions of Sonar when I need V-Vocal. Thanks to all for contributing. Wade C. "Hey Sdwest, Thanks for reaching out! Sorry for the trouble. V-vocal is an old 32-bit plug-in and is not expected to work well with Cakewalk by BandLab, which is a native 64-bit program. Although Cakewalk uses BitBridge to allow use of 32-bit plug-ins, it's reliability is not guaranteed. What you can try is; check your plug-in manager under DirectX Audio Effects (DX). Click the Show Disabled option at the bottom and see if you have Cronus.dll under the disabled list. If it is, please enable it. Close Cakewalk and relaunch to see if it still crashes. Hope to hear back from you soon! Best regards, Freed"
  4. scook, I have submitted my dump file to Bandlab, so we'll see what happens. It's my first time doing this, so I'm hoping I did it correctly, and that they understand that I am not asking them to source or support V-Vocal, but perhaps look into the Cakewalk end to see if something is getting in the way of running V-Vocal. Wade C.
  5. My crashes occur, near as I can determine, when using x64 versions of SPLAT and CbB with V-Vocal. If I am working on a 32 bit file, with SPLAT X1 or X2, V-Vocal seems to work fine for me. This is why I made that statement.
  6. Thanks to all who responded. I was not aware that V Vocal was also a 64 bit plug-in as well as 32 bit, I'll look into that further. For right now, I'm using Windows 7, x64 and if I had my druthers, I'd continue to use it from now until someone comes out with an OS that works better for me. I still use V-Vocal at times for some things that Melodyne does not do, and I have Melodyne 4 Studio. At times I use it to fade a single syllable where I have had to edit off a bit of the ending or where it just sounds better that way. A bigger attraction for me is the ability to enhance or add a little vibrato in places in a vocal, especially after a Melodyne treatment. I don't use it often, but it does stuff that Melodyne doesn't do, it's non-destructive, and I think it helps me. A year or so ago, I put in a feature request to Celemony for these features to be added to Melodyne, they were definitely interested, but apparently did not find it practical to do that as yet, as I have heard nothing in a while. I appreciate the discussion about this, apparently a few people feel as I do about it, so I will try to capture a crash dump for the CbB folks to see if they can maybe fix that. Best wishes to all, stay healthy and stay safe. Wade C.
  7. I also posted this question in Q&A section, but it may be related to the new version of CbB. Any ideas? Hi all, I still find good old V-Vocal useful for some specific things concerning vocals, IMO it does certain things that Melodyne cannot do. Seems V-Vocal is a 32 bit plug-in, but did run on CbB. The V-Vocal panel would appear at the bottom, but you could not "float" it to another screen, so that was another issue that I learned to live with. Now, V-Vocal does not run at all on CbB latest version. I have 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Sonar X1, X2 and X3 installed, and V-Vocal works as it should on both X1 and X2 32-bit programs. My system is fully updated Windows 7 Pro x64. Can anyone help with this? TIA, Wade NW Illinois

  9. Mettelus, thank you. LatencyMon is still in the green on all 4 bars after 2 minutes. This program will help me resolve my dropout problem, I think. In other news, I tried my Samsung 970 Pro 512GB NVMe card in a PCIe X4 slot with an adapter card, and using Samsung's migration software, It was able to recognize and clone my current 850 Pro SSD to the NVMe. However, my motherboard does not give me a choice of a PCIe card boot, so I get a boot failure every time. So, back to the drawing board, but it was fun getting as far as this, in any event.
  10. mettelus, I did all that with the NVIDIA drivers, but there is still a pesky little "nvlddmkm.sys" that is very active called "NVIDIA Windows kernel mode driver", which I assume is the driver. Are there accepted benchmarks/numbers with LatencyMon below which a person can feel confident about the system for DAW use?
  11. If you use V-Vocal for anything (I find it useful for restoring or adding a bit of vibrato to a vocal) you might consider installing a slightly older version of Sonar. I think the last version that contained V-Vocal was Sonar X2. Then when you re-install CbB, V-Vocal will be right there and useable in CbB under "Region FX". Just something to consider. Wade C
  12. Running LatencyMon I discovered a lot of USB 3.0 activity, then realized that I had transferred the licenses from several of my favorite plugins to a USB flash drive. I eliminated this problem by transferring the licenses back to the cloud and removing the flash drive from the USB port. It won't be as convenient transferring licenses between computers, but it's not that bad either. Wade C.
  13. mettelus, I did not know about LatencyMon until I read your post. I have downloaded it and have been getting familiar with it and it should be a big help to me. Most of the background processes are abbreviations that are unfamiliar to me, but a Google search helps with that. One big user and abuser of my system resources was the NVIDIA video card extraneous processes, and I've already trashed most of that. Good stuff, thank you.
  14. Starship Krupa, I'll try that, I do keep a lot of unused vocal tracks and de-selected plugins in the final cwp file. I usually have 4 or 5 cwp project files for every project, depending on the state of the final product. I'll try deleting all muted and unused tracks from the final mixdown cwp then renaming it, so that the one I'm working with only contains "live" tracks and plugins. Good advice, and thank you. Wade C.
  15. Bob Bone, that's music to my ears. I've used Samsung's cloning software before when replacing a SATA drive with another SATA drive, but I'll be trying what you suggest, thanks! Wade
  16. slartabartfast, that's good information, and SSD with direct PCIe connection was news to me. I did a little checking on ebay and, sure enough, I find several brands that I could try for a fairly reasonable amount. I have already jumped into the shark-infested waters for a Samsung 970 Pro 512GB and an adapter card, so I'll give that a go first. I'm not too sure yet how I'm going to get this motherboard to recognize an operating system on PCIe, let alone creating a bootable SSD. It's a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4, BIOS version F6. The documentation at Gigabyte mentions that version F4 was "Improve OCZ PCIe SSD compatibility", so I'm hopeful. PCIe is not listed as a bootup choice in the BIOS. If it won't work, I'll have some stuff for sale! Thanks for your time, you've helped me a lot! Regards, Wade
  17. Bob, thanks for a lot of good information about the M.2 drives, I think I'm going to try a 512GB with an adapter card for PCIe as boot drive and see what it does. I've been looking at a Samsung 970 Pro 512GB for that purpose, but others rank pretty high too. I'm using a WD 1TB Black HDD for Project files, so I'll just stay with that for now. I have my dropout issues in mixing, I do as you do for recording: I don't use any plugins and have had pretty good luck in that mode. I'm hopeful that the new version of CbB will offer more insight into the causes of these things. IMO, they don't seem to be caused by CPU loading. Cheers, Wade
  18. slartabartfast, thank you for that response! I don't consider myself a speed fetishist, I do have some problems with dropouts when playing 10 or more tracks with some plugins attached. I'm on an i7 with 16GB of ram, so I guess I expected better. My system is a Win7 system that has been used for many purposes over several years now, so there are many "services" and "processes" running that I have no clue what they do or if it is safe to terminate their little behinds. So, there may be more to it than I think. You mention the new SSD cards connected directly to the PCI bus, I have considered those. My motherboard is such that I would have to use a PCI to M2 adapter to be able to do that, do you know if that would still be a faster way to go than SATA? Now that you mention it, a Ferrari would make the commute better, I think. 😉 Thanks again! Wade
  19. Any of you have opinions about drive types/speeds to be used for the "Cakewalk Project" *.cwp and *.wav files used within the Program. I feel the best type of drive for the program itself is to install and run it on a good reliable SSD, but wonder if the type of drive used to record the data and hold the files makes any difference in the process. At the moment I'm using a Samsung 860 Pro SSD for the program install and a 1TB Western Digital "Black" series HDD for Cakewalk Projects Wade C.
  20. I might have inadvertently done CTRL+W, thanks!
  21. msmcleod - thank you, that's what I was looking for. I am now happy once more! I have no recollection of un-setting that, in fact didn't know it was there. Regards, Wade
  22. Hi everyone, My "STOP" transport button always performed a "stop and return to origin", the SPACE bar operated that way as well. Press the spacebar once, the transport went into PLAY, press it one more time and the transport went into STOP and returned to where it was before PLAY was pressed initially. Now, it seems to have changed to PLAY then PAUSE when pressed the second time. This is very inconvenient for me. I've searched the options and the Customization > Keyboard Shortcuts has no effect. Does anyone recognize this condition and can you offer a clue for me to follow? Thanks in advance and best regards, Wade
