  1. Hello-- Just confirming, even if the dropout indicator lights when playback stops?
  2. Hello I have notices enabled under Display, and I have the restart engine (not in studio for exact wording) enabled in configuration settings and yet when I get audio engine dropouts, I still don't get the toast message with the dropout reason code. Ideas? Thanks! Stephen
  3. Thanks for sharing. Based on what I heard, you might also enjoy using Acid. There used to be a free player and loops if you want to mess around with it, but at least try a demo.
  4. UPDATE-- Just a few minutes later, after the Windows update was done and I restarted my PC, I now get the audio dropouts again AND no toast message! :-( - Bypassing all FX solves the playback issue. Here's all the things you've been asking for all along. I do want to add that my DAW specs are in my signature and, prior to W10 none of this was an issue and I've had projects with more than this going on. Plug-ins - (x = quantity) UAD Studio-D Chorus (x1) UAD Precision Bus Compressor (x1) POD Farm 2 (x2) POD Farm distortion (x1) CW FX Chain "Chunks" (x1) Guitar Rig 5 (x1) MFlanger (x1) VX-64 Vocal Strip (x2) CW Multi-voice Chorus/flanger (x1) Soundtoys Little Plate (x1) Blue Cat Chorus 4 (x1) If this was a constant issue, I'd be ordering my shiny, brand new USB audio interface right now! :-/
  5. Thanks. I had those. It was in the config settings I needed to set.
  6. Hey John-- I fired off some Windows updates while playing back the problem project and it didn't skip a beat. Figures. I'll keep trying. Thanks!
  7. That's the ticket! Thanks, Bob. All the notification settings were on and I see them exept the toast notice for dropouts. It was the config setting: in Preferences > Audio - Configuration File > [RestartEngineAfterDropout] flag. Set to False to revert to the prior behavior of displaying a dropout toast notification. I've got that set to False, but now it won't drop out--so we wait, but now I've set the trap.
  8. Thanks, John. This was actually reason #1 why I waited so long to upgrade to W10. It wasn't until I heard from multiple users on this forum that have the exact same audio interface that said it was working flawlessly in W10 that I decided to take the plunge. "Mileage may vary" warning noted. I did have it in the plan B box to buy a new interface if I had to. Just used to the old Layla 3G and the whole PCIe interface thing. Jury is still out since it's only one project.
  9. Thanks for the troubleshooting steps @Robert Bone I may have to break it down there as you suggest, but the project was flawless prior to Windows 10 and it's the only project with issues with W10! I'm still trying to track down where any CW notices of why it's dropping out is/are.
  10. I'm not getting the toast notices when I get dropouts. I can't seem to find where the setting is to toggle those on and off. Anyone? Thanks, I'm not getting the dropout notices (toast notices). Is there a setting somewhere to turn those on? I can't find it. Thanks! Stephen
  11. Thank you David. I very much appreciate it. DAW is now unstable per se. I got another BSOD, but after a .NET Windows update and a reboot, I am no longer getting dropouts from the CW project. I'll check the documentation you provided. I had my toast screen set to go off after 2 seconds, so I increased that until I get this figured out. I also have lifetime support from ADK on my rig, so I reached out the them as well.
  12. Does anyone know if CW has a dropout log that I can retrieve? Since the W10 upgrade I have an FX or two that won't allow my project to play. I'd like to single out the FX in a more precise way than just bypassing one at a time--not just for this issue but it's something I'd like to know for the future as well. Thanks, Stephen
  13. Hello-- Thanks so much. Let me look this info over and I'll post back what I found out.
  14. I'm going to try to play the project while bypassing all effects. Does anyone know if there is a log capture for dropouts so I can see what's causing it? Thanks! -EDIT- It's in the FX somewhere. I bypass all FX and the tracks play. Is there anyway to find out which FX is causing CW to drop out other than disabling one at a time? Again, this was all good in W7 and this is the only project that's doing this. Thanks!!
  15. Hello I've posted this on an old post of mine that may have exceeded it's shelf life, so apologies for the dup. I did an upgrade last night. I followed the recommended steps, and all went well from what I can tell so far. There is one show stopper issue that I never had before with playback. It stops playing for a few ms, and then just starts again on its own. (EDIT) It seems to be just my last project. I played a previous project without issues. Sound Forge and Wavelab both playback files without issues too. I did notice that the Windows 10 upgrade had turned on some integrated sound modules, so I *disabled those. (EDIT) Now the most recent project will only start for a few ms and then it stops--never plays anything "Dropout". There was a post I wrote down about post upgrade tweaks where they said to turn off performance throttling, but I can't find that setting and a search returns power throttling. Any help is much appreciated! EDIT: Here's some additional information. The first time I played back a project, it did the stutter stop once during the track. The next two times I played it back, there were no issues. (EDIT) Now the playback head moves forward a couple beats and stops each time I hit play. Again, just on this project. I also noticed on my Windows Sounds interface, where my Layla 3G used to list each of the 8 i/os in stereo pairs, now there is one entry for i/os 1-8. Just an observation. (EDIT) *Since disabling the integrated sound modules, I now see the stereo pairs like prior to the W10 upgrade. Also, sadly, I got a BSOD this morning. It was at the point when I entered my Windows unlock password. After a reboot, no issue.
  16. Hello I just did the W10 upgrade and I'm going over the checklist of things to adjust after, and I had it listed to 'turn off performance throttling' I can't find that anywhere and I wonder if you meant 'power throttling'? My issue is that playback in CW stops for a few ms and then just keeps going. Almost like a skipping record (vinyl). It never did this before on W7 so I'm thinking this might be the cause. Ideas are welcome! Thanks, Stephen
  17. Update: 97% done downloading W10... Installing... waiting for the first reboot... Working on updates 25%... Mostly done!! One little hiccup that XLN needed me to re-register my computer (Addictive Drums). All I had to do was run the online installer and it was fixed. I did run into a concerning glitch. When I play back a project I just completed in CW, playback stops for a few ms and then starts again on its own. I am ready to call it a night for PC work and start looking into this tomorrow to see if my audio buffers need adjusting, etc. But I sure hope that was a fluke because that's no bueno if I can't solve that.
  18. Hey Group-- Just finished a project and am upgrading from the latest version of W7 to W10. I read your posts and here are the highlights: *Uninstall AV. Check. I got the uninstall and reinstall instructions from the vendor. *Remove external drives. Check. I'm also removing all my dongles. *Uninstall drivers to my legacy Layla 3G interface. Check. Also making sure I document where a copy to install them again is located. *Projects backed up. Check. Just have to backup the one I just completed. *I've also got the W10 system tweaks for after the upgrade. I've upgraded 3 computers from W7 to W10. But this is the first DAW and I've put it off long enough. Wish me luck 👍
  19. Hello-- I got Equivocate at a bargain price, but when I tried to add it to a bus, it froze up CW and I had to do a dirty shutdown. No data was lost. Anyone use this app and can you tell me if it uses a ton of computer resources? Thanks, Stephen
  20. Dang it!! (Sorry) Seems like an easy add for CW. I'm guessing some of the underlying code is probably similar. Did you add the suggestion to the Feedback Loop forum?
  21. This is great. For the app you mention, does it continue to allow those side buttons to control your browser while you're not in CW? EDIT: Got my answer. Yes!
  22. I thought you could. I'm pretty sure I've copied envelopes before. EDIT: Yeah, you can https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Automation.11.html#1154570
