  1. thank you craig! yep, tooele, i get out that way every once in a while, used to like to hike deseret peak just past grantsville on that side of the mountain range... try to get up to the mountains on a regular basis, i live about 20 minutes from Solitude ski resort.
  2. hey Ed! thanks man, i'm thinking about calming down the 'fuzz' middle section a bit. at first mix, i thought it should get more intense... like, you are at the kitchen window, looking out at the frost, the sun comes out, starts warming your face, and the fuzz is the face getting hot. LOL or you step outside, thinking it's actually warm, and the bitter cold air hits your face and freezes it!! LOL again
  3. hey thanks craig! appreciate the comments...
  4. from the bats brew album "Elemental". https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/spring-morning
  5. hi andy! appreciate the comments... yea, bang on message. bang on head. LOL glad you dig this one, more are coming (not message songs this will be the only one of those)
  6. i have found that mixing on earbuds will absolutely NOT translate to a full range loudspeaker system. they're great for checking mixes on, though
  7. you can ruin a mix, by putting a compressor behind a track that needed eq first. drives the compressor nuts. bottom line, like mark said, you need to have the mix right to start with. that's why i like to mix into sub busses, so i can treat the different parts of the band on their own sonic merits. if i eq'd individual tracks right, there shouldn't be a build up of eq at the sub bus level, but sometimes it happens.
  8. hey paul! yea, i'm diggin' the Strymon Iridium for these current tones... as a base crunch tone, the superlead is hard to beat. i can make it modern sounding, thru eq and using some of the pedals on my board, but i kinda like it unadorned like this. the choice of IR is key.
  9. i don't want folks around here to start calling you 'joan'. not cool. LOL
  10. LOL, stupid phone spellcheck... my apologies Old Joad
  11. Hi Joad (Joan) Thanks for the kind words... Yea, that line really stuck in my head , I'm glad things did not get out of hand on Saturday. Anyway, thanks for commenting
  12. Hi treesha! Thanks so much for checking this tune out, I'm constantly working on trying to create a "style" that is recognizable, I'm getting closer
  13. hi myriad! thanks for the comments... yea, raw, the demo was a bit overproduced, so i pulled it back. i appreciate you listening, thanks.
  14. https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/track/hear-the-call this is an updated version of the demo i previously did.... if you heard the 1st version, you will probably notice this one has a different feel to it. i played it more backbeat. new guitar tracks, new drum kit. this is my first single release! njoy!
  15. if you have a kick that has too much pop at, say, 50 hz.... and you compress that.... the kick and signal from 50 hz is what will make the compressor work. if you EQ the kick 1st, and calm the 50 hz in line with what you really need, the compressor works less hard. and so on, ad naseum. it's all dependent on the track, and the need.
  16. i appreciate that inthorns! glad you dig it, more to come.
  17. howdy ho, myriad! appreciate the comments, thanks. i try to get the bass to sit where it works for both large stereos and ear buds. which is kinda tricky.
  18. hey jim! funny you mention atlanta rhy section, i really liked that band back in the day... appreciate that kudo, thanks!
  19. hi mark! glad you caught the 'feel' i was going for, tho i know honky tonks mostly feature 'country' feel more than boogie, i tried to give that a nod too. i don't do a lot of slide, but i always feature it in a couple of songs on every album i've done (5 to date.) for example, the song "Apollo 18" off the new album, features an entire song built around multiple slide parts. the fluttering effect you mention, that was a little melody that goes off on it's own, kinda like a day dream, that is meant to take you out of the moment, and then drop you right back in again!! so, it worked!! heheh thanks man.
  20. liken' the track, that's weird... but i'm glad you heard it all the same, thanks!
