I totally agree. Being a programmer, I know it would not be difficult to implement a logic tree, or provide a set of preferences for how this situation is handled. If both clips are the same name and/or color, keep it. Else keep first. Cakewalk let's you customize much of the behavior, but this is definitely a sore point for many of us.
