Quick rewind to the OP again... It seems you did use stems for the collaboration, but can you expound on the "some challenges" part of your OP?
We collaborated on 2 or 3 of his songs going back a few years ago and when we were discussing this one he reminded me it was difficult before and i vaguely remember that but not exactly what the issues were. His creativity is good and over time he sends me his songs and i tell him what i hear in his mix to improve. This one the mix is so very bad so I offered to mix it. He was and is better now but still not very daw experienced and has a disability so maybe just the unfamiliar steps on his end were difficult for him. I think he had been using cakewalk for all the others but moved to reaper so this one is created in reaper that i know nothing about. So I just wanted to get ideas for the best easiest way to get his reaper work into my cakewalk. Thanks for the reply!
ps. In this case his project file in reaper is likely very simple no bells and whistles to need to recreate on my end- 1

Hi, A friend who works in reaper would like me to do a mix of his song so is there any way that his project file can open in cakewalk? In the past he has sent a wav file for each of his tracks which worked ok in the end but had some challenges, just wondering if there is an easier way? Thanks for any suggestions for ways to do this

My melodyne processed files go to c/user/ treesha/documents/celemony/separation And yes empty it from time to time. Not sure if they go somewhere else too. For me nothing is ever in the project file in the melodyne/ transfers folder. I think way back when clips etc had to be played to get transferred into melodyne they went in the project folder.

I seem to remember that about eight or nine years ago there was a shootout on this forum between different mastering services. As best as I recall the winner was a professional mastering engineer, but only by a nose. I think second place went to an automatic service (maybe it was landr?). Does anyone else remember this and might be able to provide better details or more correct information?
This is a post I participated in in 2020, sorry I didn't know how to link the post here at the moment. Heading was

Has a bit of holy reverent feeling, sweet spirit to it. How nice to take Benni’s words and make a beautiful tribute from them. Powerful piece and gesture.

Very well done, I had no trouble with the lyrics and am glad you posted them. Love the horns. I appreciate and relate to your lyrics, when so much can go wrong and sometimes does, I really try to nurture gratitude in myself every day things don't go wrong, like grateful today I didn't need a dentist fast or a plumber ha. Easy to listen to and enjoy

Cool song, thought of John Mellencamp Beach Boys and something else I couldn’t quite identify. An enjoyable listen, good job.

Besides all the similar comments about the low end, I thought when the multilayered vocals came in, they were too stark of a difference to the straight up vocal.
Overall nice tune Treesha.
Hi Bapu
Thanks for listening and your feedback. Glad you think its an overall nice tune, and yes I am currently working on the bass and kick trying to beef them up in the mix. As for the vocals, they might be a bit different in the next mix just because everything will change some, but I won't be focusing on changing them. I meant for them to be intense because the lyrics are angst-full. Thanks again !

Nice tune, I am with Mark, the kick and bass need a little more presence. Good work though.
Hi Wookiee
Thanks for listening and your feedback. I agree about the low end being too weak and I am working on making it better. Glad I am having a chance to learn new things. Thanks for saying its good, appreciate it !

The lyrics have a killer emotional drive to them, and your sense of vocal leads and harmonies are truly wonderful in this song!
You are getting good advice on the low end I think, so I would only add that you consider giving the hi hat a little interval or break. It's 8 to the bar for the entire song, and if it took a rest occasionally, it might be easier to bring other mix elements up and out, like the acoustic rhythm guitar which could step forward a bit I think.
Luckily the vocals are 90% of the business, and you've got those worked out!
Nice one, quirky and lovely.
cheers,
-Tom
Hi Tom
I really appreciate you listening and your comments. Thank you for commenting on the emotional lyrics. Yes the song is very vocal heavy and low end light ha. I was checking out how I might add more low end in with Izotope yesterday a little bit, but when I see your comment about the hi hat, well maybe that needs attention too within a full remix. I try my best with drum parts, they do not come natural to me, and honestly I did not even notice the hi hat aspect, usually I get drums to a point and then think its ok enough. So I really appreciate you pointing this out and the impact it could have on the acoustic guitar. And I'm glad you enjoyed it ! Thanks again

Interesting writing style, enjoyed it. A bit retro, parts of it remind me of my early fm / underground station listening days.
Hi hsmusic
I see you have a #1 so welcome and if I got your first post thanks ! Glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoy when people comment on what one of my songs sounds like or reminds them of as you have. And often the comments are diverse, which is cool. I did my share of early fm underground station listening myself and I think it is all inside me bouncing around and shows up in songs. Thanks for listening and commenting

Alarming intro, unsettling sounds, I admire your boldness and courage with some of the subject matter you get into. Very expressionistic, good job putting it together.

Nice choice of sounds, good atmosphere for the mood and words, the mix is good over here, a winner.

Lovely spacey swirly sounds with some darkness, eeriness and uneasiness tastefully mixed in. It has a sense of traveling to it. The clips you chose are clever and well processed for the mood. Well done.

Hi treesha
I really like this - I agree with what David has said re the low end etc
Apart from that, cool track
Nigel
Hi Nigel,
Thanks for listening and for leaving a comment for me. Oh yes, the low end is not strong enough, I may revisit the mix in the future. I was working on this a long time and need to do something different. I was struggling to get the kick and bass to be good together so not surprised its lacking. Glad the rest is ok ! Nice to know you think its cool!

This a fun interesting track. A little quirky in both presentation and vocals and instrumentation and has a nice little groove moving with it.
There’s almost no low end on the entire track tho and the drums could be pushed a little to give a bigger sound. I would also suggest maybe shortening it a little, as it starts to feel a little repetitive at almost 5 minutes.
Dig it, nice work.
Hi David,
Thanks for listening and for the feedback. Yes I agree the low end is too light, and maybe will revisit this but tired of working on it at the moment. My last posted song with vocals, I got feedback from @whoisp who suggested I leave some space in between my nonstop words, so this time I took his advice and intentionally had some non-vocal sections. Probably there is a sweet spot. Glad you dig it!

Somewhere there is a film this should go with ! quite soundtrack-y. Very nice piece with evocative moments, textures and moods.

Good song, I like the instrumentation and the mix. Having just made a song with discontented lyrics as I sometimes do, I get it, and you captured the mood well.

With that title I had to listen ha. Very sweet. Thanks for posting the lyrics even though they are very easy to hear. The vocal in the middle bit might be a little more pronounced, they seem further back there. The song is very clean and the mix is great. Enjoyed it !

Can Reaper song project file be brought into Cakewalk
in Cakewalk by BandLab
Posted
Thanks for all the replies, information and suggestions. An interesting discussion! I was reading about program called Satellite by mixedinkey for different daw collaborations posted on the forum that google brought up, i think its in the freeware large thread. I expect we will keep it simple and he will just send stems I will set up in cakewalk as before. Since its a basic bare bones project it should be fine. Thanks to all!
