My next one will be about the ROLI Seaboard

I considered getting one of those a while ago (there was a discounted promotion for something), and then I found out about the Linnstrument and I couldn't decide which would be better; then I realised Studio One doesn't support MPE (but Cakewalk does), and that it's probably overkill for what I do anyway.

Will still be interested in hearing your opinions of the ROLI though.

So, though I can't own a Shelby, I can own the sound of it......

If it's anything like their last free offerings, it'll be around six sounds or something

Maybe the sounds of the indicator lights blinking :)

That said, free is free, so I'm not complaining

I probably have about 7.5 TB of Kontakt libraries and another 1.5 to 2 TBs of EW and UVI stuff.

All of a sudden, I no longer feel I have that much stuff... 😜

Granted, it started getting out of hand when I got into the orchestral libraries....

I know exactly what you mean

  4. I've read articles saying the transition will be smooth, and then I think about how some companies are still releasing a new patch to support Catalina. Being able to run your DAW on an iPad Pro sounds cool, but something tells me performance will be less than that when running on your 18-core Mac Pro (or whatever its called; sorry - not a Mac user/fan).

Don't get me wrong though - it sounds like an impressive project and hope it goes well.

The preset browser defied my attempts to change presets. A single click does nothing, and a double-click lets you rename the preset.

Got me at first too. The secret is that double-clicking renames a preset (as you say), but clicking the space to the right of the preset name lets you change preset.

  6. I've downloaded a demo and have started playing with some presets - am I right in thinking this is more like an arpeggiated phrase generator, than a synth (in the traditional sense)?

(Don't get me wrong - it's very cool. The UI's just a bit too complex for me to know what I'm looking at)

I do. They are.  And? Slightly different.   I have all 4.  I have too much stuff.

But, but... there are six of them :):

Silka, Insolidus, Lacrimosa, Requiem Pro, Liberis Angelic Choir, The New Studio Sopranos

What about Bottles Instrument for Kontakt at $2? ;)

Mentioned Bottles already a bit earlier 😉

Good point about the try-packs though - guess I was trying to point out some typically unusual instruments that might add a new dimension

I was talking about the Rigs more ;) i have those if i recall well in the full version , nope ?

I don't have any of the TH-U series so someone correct me if I'm wrong in thinking: TH-U rigs are like AAS sample packs - if you buy a RIG pack, you can use it in the RIG player included in the pack that was bought (just like if you buy an AAS sample pack, you can use it in the free player); if you have TH-U Full, you can also open your RIG pack in that (just like if you have the full version of Chromaphone, you can play your Chromaphone sample pack in that)

Talk me out of Insolidus.  Someone.....please.

You don't get direct control over the rhythm in which the syllables of the phrases are sung (although they are tempo synced), and it can take a while to open the patches (as is the case with any large library); you can get around the latter by freezing the track once you're happy with it. Also, you'll need the full version of Kontakt.

On the plus side, It really is a beautiful sounding choir, and you do get phrases with different syllable counts; the arcs also sound really good in my opinion. Also keep in mind that this would be more suited for quiet/calm/emotional moods, rather than something bombastic.

If you add a little something extra during your purchase, you can take advantage of their custom bundle maker promotion:

They have a section of $50 and under; there's some quite nice stuff there, but if you're looking for the absolute cheapest, you can get Bottles for $2.
