I've got this, and like it very much.
Also don't forget you can get an additional discount if you own any of the other GEM plugins.

Maybe they could try using imported instruments, instead of homemade ones?

Downloading a demo now... Just in case anyone's using Edge as their browser, I'm having trouble getting the content file to download; it's fine in Chrome though.

Anyone have any opinions about how this compares with other 'big' synths, e.g. Pigments/Massive X/Serum? It looks like it has more sound sources (oscillators/wavetables, etc) and chainable effects, but do these contribute towards making 'better' sounds?

Checked my account and it would be $199 to upgrade to FX2 Elite,
or $200 to get the Elite combo, but I already have Amp 2 Elite, so
I save a buck by just buying FX Elite 2, and still get the Metal pack...go
figure...not that I could do either...but kinda wonky!Same here for me to upgrade to FX2 Elite. However, make sure you check the price of BIAS Studio Platinum; that contains FX2 Elite.
Too bad I have nothing to spare for this month...

I have Shevannai and it's very, very, very good
I agree, but I do wonder what the lyrics of my songs end up meaning (it's in Elvish); probably no more gibberish than the modern pop song though 🙂
Cantus and Mystica are very good too.

Some of the plugins do look interesting, but I have so many already that sound great to my ears. I always end up feeling guilty when I buy new plugins as I end up thinking at the back of my mind that there's something I'm not using.

I stand corrected on the re-buy your licenses statement. Still seems slight off to me that you need to pay a ZDT 'insurance' for a potential hardware failure that could be beyond anyone's control (though I suppose it's the same with a e.g. fridge/car/washing machine).

Dang; only got a Scarlett 🙁

I just don`t like subscriptions with computer software. I like to buy and know that I can keep using it forever! I don`t really like online activation either, but I do understand from the developers point of view with so much piracy going on.
I used to hate iLok at one point, but since having one for a few months now, its actually very good, it fits in the back of my PC not causing any issue and I know if my PC goes down I don`t have to worry about my licenses. I actually wish all software developers at least had the option of iLok licensing, would save a lot of hassle, for me anyway in case of a reinstall, sorry ranting now!
It's not really fair to compare iLok with a subscription scheme.
I personally hate both. It's true that if your PC goes down or you want to use another one, you can relocate the iLok; if your iLok goes down, that's when you have to buy all of your software/plugins again. Not only that, you end up installing a few background services to use an iLok: if you're lucky they play nicely, and they probably do play nicely in most cases. I myself am perfectly happy that not every developer uses iLok.

I'm wondering why Halion Sonic 3 is not mentioned here
If my understanding is correct, Halion in Steinberg's competitor to Kontakt.
My personal preference would be with Kontakt: last I read, Kontakt has a larger variety of libraries, and you don't have to bother with elicenser either. NI also occasionally offer some great deals on Kontakt library bundles.

Really good playing on a really good tune!
I think the tambourine and vocals might be a tiny bit loud, but the mix otherwise sounds great to me.
Great work!

Just wanted to point this out, in case it's important to anyone; from the FAQ:
QuoteExponential Audio products do require iLok License Manager for activation, but they do NOT require an iLok USB key. EA products can be authorized via iLok License Manager to iLok USB keys v2 or later, or directly to your computer's hard drive.

But multi-sampled libraries of single players put together never seem to jell right
Might just be my ear, but the tutorial videos (of the modelled instruments) sounded quite good to me. It mentioned that you have to slightly detune each instance, and also tweak the controller curves as well (e.g. redraw it with the mouse); don't know how long it took to do the whole thing though.

Chris Hein Compact (extremely lifeless, and based on that, I didn't want to pop for the four pro versions)
Is this just the brass? I was considering getting the pro versions of the four libraries at some point (i.e. my long term wishlist) as the demos sounded quite good to me. My main targets would be epic/cinematic orchestral arrangements, and maybe also in some tunes in the pop/rock genre.

thanks for the thoughts - there's also the Samplemodelling route but I just want better sounds than even that. Plus it doesn't look like the Samplemodelling stuff ensembles well.
If I remember correctly, Samplemodelling does sample libraries whereas Audio Modelling does instrument modelling; only saxophones though. Their philosophy would be that you can build your own ensemble to your exact requirements, at the cost of taking time.

Night Beach

I enjoyed this.
Very aptly named too: evocative, with the dancing synth parts sounding like twinkling stars, and the synth pad with the long-ish attack time sounding like waves breathing as they wash in and flow out. Good mix too.
Thanks for sharing.

And even more surprising, a lot of it is being created by amateurs who do it solely for the joy of making music.

Could someone explain to me how WUP works? If I understand correctly, it's conceptually a 'subscription' allowing you to update every plugin you have to the latest version. Is this for minor releases (e.g. 9.0 to 9.1), or just for major releases (e.g. 9.0 to 10.0)? Does Waves release a new version of every plugin every year?
