  1. Using Neutron Pro in Cakewalk, I'm sending two tracks to sidechain compress a third track - i.e. a vocal track and a guitar track are both sending to a keyboard track to compress the keys track. When adjusting the threshold in the Neutron compressor for the keys track I can't seem to distinguish which of the two sends I am affecting when changing the threshold?  Is that possible to adjust each send individually or are both sends just blended when adjusting the threshold?

P.S. Big love ❤️to this forum, always great answers... or more questions that make me think things through,.

  2. Updating my audio interface, currently a Presonus FireStudio w a Firewire connection.  Looking at USB-C vs Thunderbolt for a win 10 PC... which is better... which is faster... which do you like/recommend?

  3. For those of you using Neutron with Sonar... I've selected (applied) a preset in Neutron 3 Elements compressor module and don't like the sound and want to turn it off.  I know how to change to/apply another preset in the module settings and know how to turn off the compressor module completely, but I simply want to turn that particular preset off without turning off the module - i.e. if I turn the module off then turn it back on the preset I selected previously is still applied.  I know how to delete the preset, but if I understand correctly that removes it from being shown in the menu which is not what I want to do.  I'm using Neutron 3 Elements, but imagine presets it work similarly for all Neutron versions.  Dumb question, but driving me nuts!

  4. Related to Cakewalk X2... I've been exporting to MP3 for a while w no issues.  But will only export about half of one of my projects, ends halfway through the song.  All of the tracks are exported but only half the song time span - i.e. 1.5 min of a 3 minute song.  On DAW it shows the entire export process being completed with the progress bar going to the end and the export finishing, but the resulting MP3 file only has half the song.  Probably something simple, but can;t seem to figure it out or find it on the forum.  Thanks friends!

Update: Problem solved, seems tied to frozen synths, when unfrozen whole song gets exported. Guess the mix down process on exports bangs up against the synth freeze which is essentially a mix down.

  5. Quick related yet unrelated Nectar question...  I'm using nectar for a bunch of vocal trax (about 8 trax), do you prefer, or is it better, to apply Nectar to each track or to rout groups of tracks to a bus and apply Nectar to the bus?  I'd prefer to apply it on individual trax as the vocal tones of each track are a bit different.  Appreciate your thoughts friends.

  6. Sometimes when I clone a track the the mute solo button gets linked with the original track... when I click solo on one track it triggers solo on the other track.  I unchecked "link to original clip" in the clone properties window.  Can't find any answers on this in the forum, so appreciate any advice.

    Thanks friends

  7. I think I finally figured it out.  Sort of related to Sreams comment.  After investigating the project files some more noticed some of the audio files for the project were being saved on my C drive, but sonar and related other project files reside on my F drive (second internal drive).  Once I moved the audio files to the F drive and deleted those on the C drive things seem to be working again with no dropouts.  Guessing the delay in reading between the two drives was causing the dropout.

Thank you all for the great suggestions, all were helpful. This forum is the bomb!

  8. Yes, of course.  Win 7 64 bit (yes, I know, upgrading soon).  Intel core i5 3.2Hz. 6 Gb RAM.  Sonar X2 (yes, I know, upgrading soon also)

Sonar main app and plugins installed on C drive.  Project and audio files running on F drive (second large internal hard drive).

Have had the occasional dropouts before, but mostly ASIO driver/buffer related or running too many synths at same time.  In this case nothing is running, all bounced to audio tracks.  Also running AVG virus but is turned off when I run Sonar.

  9. Some clip fade and gain automations are not working on one of my tracks.  Automation works on some clips but not on other clips in the same track.  Tried trimming and bouncing the clips but no difference.  I have a feeling it may be a setting issue I'm missing.

    Appreciate any advice

  10. After applying V-vocal to clips and making some minor adjustments I'm getting a lot of clicks in the resulting clips.  The original clips are click free.

Would it be CPU or RAM related?  I tried it in a new project that has no other tracks or fx or anything using up CPU or RAM power and still getting a clicking result.

Could be ASIO buffer setting related, but have also played around with different buffer settings and problem still exists.

    Any ideas?

  11. Good advice.  Been thinking about switching and researching the potential consequences on my roster of projects.  So your opinion is helpful.  Need to move to win 10 as well.  Will look into it some more.

Was able to salvage things by opening a new project file and pasting tracks into it from the old file.  Maybe the original file git corrupted, who knows.  Bitch to build back all the settings and fx l, but so far so good.

If the machine has internet access, could try Cakewalk by BandLab.

There have been a lot of bug fixes since 2012.

The only impact installing CbB has on 64bit X2a is it will update the shared folders which include the plug-in manager, vst scanner, DX plug-ins and PC modules.

While it is extremely unlikely to cause a problem with X2a, the worst that could happen is it may result in a need to perform a clean install of X2 and X2a. Something which may be on the short list of things to try anyway.

  12. Still baffled.  Emptied the pic cache.  Made a copy of the project file and moved to the C drive (original project file is on the D drive).  Played with the ASIO/sample settings.  Froze all tracks. No luck.

Inserting a new virtual instrument (Dimension Pro) seems to be a trigger point, but haven't tried other instruments yet.

Hopefully my HD's haven't gone bad... that will be my last option.  Open for other ideas

I remember having this problem a long time ago.  I only had the problem on certain projects.  Seems to me empting the Pic Cashe folder use to solve many issues.  Also if I had too many clips that I used audio quantization on.   The solution to that was bouncing all the audio clips or freezing audio tracks.

Do you know where the pic cache is located?  Don't see any program folders related to pics.

This could be the issue also, will look into it. Thanks.
