    Hi Jonathan :)

I'm not sure how that works to be honest. I mean, the money that we all spent in SONAR, Platinum, lifetime and all that would have gone straight into the Cakewalk owners (Roland or Gibson, I'm not sure who was the owner at that time) pot and paid for wages/bonuses for staff at that time. There is no way that BandLab would have benefited from any of that money.

And when BandLab got the code from Gibson, did they get it free?

    cheers

Pretty sure that he means there would have been no sonar without people paying for it for decades. And no Sonar would mean no Cakewalk by bandlab.

Daw history is pretty interesting. Old ableton guys peeled off and formed bitwig, studio one was modelled heavily off cubase/nuendo. lots of people said reaper would one day be the de facto standard. but the actual situation for professionals as far as I can see is exactly the same as when I got interested in daws about 15 years ago. 90% pro tools with a few cubase and DP users. Must have something to do with tight hardware integration I'm beginning to feel

Cakewalk's future looks as good as any. On the plus side is that Cakewalk doesn't have to keep increasing sales revenue every quarter to stay alive, and that's a good thing! They even had a big presence at NAMM 2019!

I doubt that failure has been considered as an option for Cakewalk, as they are still in ramping up mode. So it would be silly for them to  publicly discuss exit plans. As if  there is even any obligation for them to do so.

Probably you're right. It's just that I've used cakewalk stuff for about 15 years and in that time they've had 4 owners. People were pretty sanguine about roland and then gibson too!

  3. It is a terrific reverb. They are currently hyping up their new verb which will be coming out in a month or two so maybe buying this now might be a good idea as I think they have upgrade discounts generally

  4. do izotope make some superior sounding gate or something 😂I've got samplitude and it's got a decent gate I'll say that but no better than the sonitus one.  You'd be way better off using izotope than samplitude noise reduction effects I would say-- they are showing their age-- might still be good enough for newbies though 😀

  5. I'd rather Bandlab concentrated on the DAW part as there are already many 3rd party samplers to choose from. What would happen is Cakewalk would be inundated with feature requests for their sampler (for some reason people seem to think every plugin should have every feature from every other competing plugin) and it would take time away from Cakewalk.

    • Great Idea 1
  6. PSP create some of the very best plugins. Their licensing tactics have changed: originally of thereabouts they used iLok protection. Then they dropped ilok. Now they are using it again. Maybe they consider the necessity for soft license ilok a fair trade off to dissuade piracy.

Some of their finest plugs have been updated and the lastest versions of these require ilok but if you bought them previously you can still get the non dongle versions from your account which is pretty cool.

Nowadays I have the advantage of being a professional angler and because of this my computer has worked perfectly with this ‘atrocious piece of garbage’ from the moment it was built....😎. The most stable and simple to understand OS I’ve ever used and believe me, I’ve used a few. Furthermore, Cakewalk has never run better either, on anything. 😉

I like win 10 but not as much as 7 or xp. There are just too many layers now IMO.

  8. lee than 24 hours to release and end of intro offer:

    Hej,

we think we've finished finalizing Twangström, and our plan is to officially release it tomorrow. But we'd like to be real sure, so we need your fast help here. Please grab one of these installers and put that thing through its paces:

    Mac:
    https://uhedownloads-heckmannaudiogmb.n ... 89_Mac.zip

    Windows:
    https://uhedownloads-heckmannaudiogmb.n ... 89_Win.zip

    Linux:
    https://uhedownloads-heckmannaudiogmb.n ... nux.tar.xz

    Changes:
    - 'Bright' mode for the spring tank implemented (downsamples to 22/24kHz instead of 11/12kHz thus preserving more treble)
    - Reduced the CPU consumption by around 40%
    - Finalized the additional content & updated the manual

    Thanks & cheers,
    Sascha

    Quick Addendum:

    - this is revision 8189 (if you're unsure what you got, check this number in the UI)
    - the beta serial does not work in this version anymore (it isn't a beta...)
    - some time tomorrow (around noon CET), if all goes well, the price will flip from 49€ to 69€
