@dubdisciple, thank you for correcting the typo.  I hope my remark didn't come across as smart or sarcastic as that was not my intent.  Sometimes I don't see the forest for the trees.  In this instance the typo drew my attention enough I did not understand your question.  That's why I asked for clarification.

I'm glad to discover the issue is resolved.

I understood you were just politely asking for clarification.  Thanks again :)

The online Bandlab DAW is getting to be a heck of a tool.   One huge improvement is Bandlab can be accessed on the Firefox browser in addition to Chrome.   There are also quick access buttons to invite collaborators to a session, private chat with collaborators, online mastering, Bandlab loops, import & export capability, an extensive suite of MIDI instruments and more.

The 24 minute  +++ Bandlab Bootcamp for Beginners +++ video is a professional grade overview of the app capabilities.

I was prepared to say ho-hum but I'm really impressed.  I'd love to read comments from other forum members.

I'm trying to get myself to like this. i like the idea more than actual practice so far

    @dubdisciple You could try renaming Offline.html  in %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\   to Offline.html.bak

It should get recreated from scratch when you re-open CbB.

You should try to work out why this has happened though... do you have OneDrive enabled? I could have re-synced from an older machine maybe ?

Check your OneDrive configuration, and consider excluding this directory... or at least make sure everything is synced and up-to-date.

    renaming helped.  Thanks!!!

I apologize if I am coming off that way.

I'm not one to keep fiddle-f-ing around with something that obviously is not working; life is too short to keep beating my head against the wall.

I've tried out more than one freebie that Crashes CbB, exhibits odd/ inconsistent behavior or just plain doesn't work.  Bye. Delete. Gone. I won't keep screwing with iit

Apparently, there was no resolution to this very same issue with this very same plugin in the thread that scook linked to.  That to me just reinforces the idea that it ain't worth the effort.

You are perfectly well free to take my suggestion  to move on - or not - as the spirit moves you. It really won't hurt my feelings.

sorry if i came off as snappy.  I just have my reasons for attempting this.  i have been kinda beta testing with a few advanced students and they like this idea better than alternatives so far

Isn't MPC Beats it's own DAW of sorts? Why not just use it as is instead of adding layers of complication, if that's the workflow/ style these kids are interested in? It's a whole different way of working that is distinctly different that the traditional Console>Tape Deck paradigm modeled by most DAWs.

It's not a very good DAW. great instrument, but horrible DAW. If you are going to keep telling me what you think i should do, instead of helping me, can you let someone interested in helping do so instead? i get that you think i should go another route, and that may be the case, but until i think my options are exhausted I want to at least try. i have had success in other DAWs. I just have this issue in cakewalk

    Has anything changed since

Previously it crashed often from minor things.  Now it works ok.  it's when i close cakewalk and reopen it that problems occur.  It would not shock me if this is an akai issue

No, but there are probably about 365,862 free drum VSTis out there that work and are not problematic. Some of them are even good.

I agree there are a few decent ones like Sitala, but i have not found one that has a functional MPC style sampler and workflow. Using other methods is my plan B, but hoping I can get this to work.

It's a  logical detour in any discussion of freeware. You can't talk about freeware without acknowledging the reason commercial developers offer it in the first place: to encourage interest in their paid products.

Granted, there are some great freebies out there that were created by dedicated hobbyists and altruistically shared (e.g.Thomas Mundt's Loudmax limiter). But you have to sift through a lot of klunkers to find them, which is why this kind of knowledge crowd-sourcing remains such a longstanding staple of recording forums. And you cannot confidently pronounce a freebie as useful without comparing it to its commercial alternatives.

The basic premise of the whole thread, as stated by Starship Krupa, is the belief that "a person can put together an excellent system entirely with freeware". He can make such a proclamation only because he has extensive experience with both free and non-free software. So yeh, talking about commercial software in a freeware context is legit.

All of this.  One of the primary reasons people seek freeware is to save money on a desired commercially available sound. It is a tricky maze to navigate, full of potential and tradeoffs.  I occasionally find gems that rival commercial software (Surge, which was once commercial is a good example) that are not gateways to paid products but it is truly like hitting the lottery.

  10. I have been seeking a drum and sampling solution within cakewalk for years that did not involve paid software.  My reasons for this involve trying to help kids get started who may be low on funds.  Cakewalk is a little daunting for young users who are accustomed to seeing Ableton or FL Studio in action, and make no mistake, these are exactly the tools they see their favorite pop songs being created on. However neither are free.  MPC beats is free but is limited as a stand alone DAW.  As a drum sampler module it has lots of potential and the audio track limit becomes insignificant. Unfortunately, for the beginner setup within DAW can be a little tricky.  To ease that process , I have been working on a template that includes individual outputs within cakewalk. It works fine, but when I attempt to open from scratch it hangs when I attempt to select track with Beats. After weeks of frustration, i figured out I can get it to work if I open project in safe mode. needless to say, that is not a workflow i want to give kids if i am trying to create a more intuitive workflow. Anyomne have success creating a project template with Beats?

Personally I don't think so. We can just install any samples.

However, I would like a sampler track like in Cubase. I don't know the details. But having something like that baked into a DAW is better than having a pre installed sampler

I could be reading you wrong, but having a baked in sampler is very different than using a third party.  i have several third party samplers and the workflow is just not the same.  This is va primary reason why it has always been a hard sell for me to get yot hto use cakewalk

IKR ! Probably could have kept it's position as one of the major DAWs if they had, others just overtook them with easier workflow for the kids. Now those kids are today's influencers and artists.

Having tried ADSR Sample Manager which seems to have stability issues in Cakewalk despite numerous updates I gave LoopCloud a go...wow...what a difference.

V6 is a subscription only deal now with loads of content etc.  but older versions were free like ADSR then you would pay for premium content if you wanted it to work with more than just your locally stored samples.

If Cakewalk could introduce anything like it built into the DAW it  would be killer

ADSR sample manager grew on me. I hate that loopcloud does no allow you o use your credits unless you have a paid membership.

Sound great. Just some more ideas / questions on this:

What would be the exact benefits of having a native cakewalk sampler in comparison to VST samplers like Momentum,

ADSR etc. regarding the workflow? Would it be a real time saver? What would be the integration points in cakewalk's

    media browser etc.?

I think a more detailed view on these advantages could better demonstrate the need of e.g. a loop construction view++

including a midi controlled use of the slices. Let's find some more brainstorms.

BTW: Isn't it possible to use FL Studio as a VST plugin in Cakewalk? Does maybe even its sampler work in this case?

    AlTheBest2U

I have been telling cakewalk they need a sampler since Sonar 6. Third party solutions are great, but a sampler that is integrated into DAW workflow is more efficient.  I rely on third party samplers like Searato for features that are more specialized, but having and idea slowed by workarounds is a creativity killing process. For example:

If I find myself inspired by a loop in Studio One or Ableton, i can have it chopped and mapped in sampler or drum machine in two clicks. No need to even pause unless desired task is more advanced. Trust me when i say this is so much faster. Momentum is nice but it's a sledge hammer for thumbtacks when it comes to basic sampling needs. ADSR is more of a library than a sampler and also has it's own issues (like sample folders suddenly becoming greyed out and unavailable)

Using something like FL Studio as a plugin is possible but the workflow can be kind of frustrating. I have been working on a template for MPC beats in cakewalk that is a little less awkward, but unfortunately sometimes cakewalk fails to load it properly.

  14. This is no so much a feature but a general request to include a basic synth.   My son has ben trying every free DAW.  He liked a lot about Cakewalk, bu one of the things he does with every DAW he tries is to see how quickly he can create a song using just stock plugs and instruments.  With cakewalk, the instruments were he one area Cakewalk gets blown out in. No synth at all is bad move.  Even partnering with a third party to include their free synth as part of download bundle would be a win win.  The drum module is useless as well.  I know there are lots of freebies available, but i think even most basic offering would be a big boost

If you are only going to use the laptop for mixing then you don't need to use ASIO4ALL, you can use just the Realtek drivers for your Realtek sound card, since you will only be outputting audio. Any latency introduced by the headphones which should be minimal anyway won't be relevant. I believe that Realtek does have an ASIO driver for it's cards, you might have to search for that, I am not sure how well it works, but there is no need to use ASIO if you are just mixing.

ASIO is only really necessary when it comes to using microphones or USB keyboards to record because it reduces the delay you hear from inputting a recorded source to what you hear back from your computer. If for example you wanted to put an AKAI MPK mini in your backpack with the laptop, then having access to an ASIO driver will mean there will be little perceptible delay between hitting a keyboard note or drum pad and hearing it back through your headphones.

It pays to check that your sound card manufacturer has an ASIO driver specifically for sound card first before considering ASIO4ALL as that is a sort of last resort solution.

Audio interfaces can be bus powered and small so you don't necessarily need to connect them to mains power in order to use them to record or use their ASIO driver.

You might have to do a bit of fiddling around to see if what you want to do will work.

Unfortunately some programs require an asio driver, even if it's a fake asio driver.

Yes, I got VIP 3.0 bundled with my VX49. Have over 20,000 patches imported into VIP. I like the browser and filter for finding patches by tag. There really is not anything that compares with that feature. Big suck is that it does not recognize VST3, so those presets are ignored.

I am not aware of any alternatives for user VIP map exchange. Another big suck is that inMusic removed their 3rd party forum from "Get Satisfaction", without any notice to users. That is where the VIP map exchange was hosted.

The auto import feature for VIP was reliant on the plugin developer being highly compliant with sharing VST patch info with a host. So a bit hit and miss. As compared to Native Instruments, who obviously told the plugin developers, "Here's our NKS standard, and if you want to play with us, you must comply".

So in that regard , VIP was never destined to be 100% compatible. But I am happy for what works. I can still load it into my DAW, and use what it does self contained. And then insert other VSTi's as needed to round things out.

If you are into preset layering, have you checked out Unify, by Plugin Guru yet? Amazing! https://www.pluginguru.com/products/unify-standard/

I have not tried that yet.  will check it out. Thanks.

With VIP you can create layers or multis. In Komplete Kontrol you cannot. I have both. Multi-timbral vs. not.

I hope NI ups their game and improves KK to add layers. Otherwise, it's a great tool!

I believe you are correct about Akai and AIR products. Their parent company inMusic Brands, has shown no interest in either updating their portfolio, or being responsive to their customer base. But they continue selling their products dirt cheap. Shame on them. But someone just starting out may decide to take a chance for $10 that the stuff still works (for now). Still not a huge risk. One is probably better off in the long run just saving up for Komplete Ultimate.

Kontrol is far from perfect but there is at least a chance of growth.  They have made big changes to maschine software in last couple of years.  I have pondered getting komplete ultimate just to get full Kontact but that is all i want at this point. I hate that inMusic removed akai and alesis forums that had VIP map exchange. Do you know of another source hat has maps available?  the system for creating them sucks and autoimport does not seem to work well with most products. Do you also own VX49? I think you may have mentioned it back on old cakewalk forum
