John, do you have Dimension Pro and Rapture etc from a previous Sonar installation? You may already have what you need.

Do you have Kontakt? Personally my favorite synth maker by far is Steve from Synth Magic https://www.synthmagic.co.uk/store.html - he doesn't charge a whole lot for those and they're the best I've heard of their kind and he'll probably be having a fall sale on those already low prices. Those are vintage style synths but a good sound is a good sound and you can make it work in your genres. I own many of those and one of my favorites is the Logan Big Band which will probably be on sale for under $13 soon. Read the descriptions of the synths and listen to the demos, many are good for leads. You can find other great and inexpensive synths on https://www.kontakthub.com and https://www.sampleism.com - but of course, you need the full version of Kontakt which now that I think of it you probably don't have because if you did you probably wouldn't be shopping for something else as even the factory content of Kontakt would give you what you need but anyway.

If he's looking for sampled libraries, I believe there are some stuff available for Sforzando and Zampler RX.

And also there's Full Bucket Music Synths.

That is a tall order, John, but you are in luck, as there is a plethora of instruments out there, both free and otherwise.

It sounds like you might have a sound in your head that is an idea of what you're looking for, so the challenge is just to find it.

There is a thread here for Freeware Instruments that you can check, and Pluginboutique usually has AIR's Hybrid 3, Loom 2, Vacuum Pro and Xpand! 2 each on sale for $14.99 or less (do NOT pay more than that for any of them). They each have great lead sounds, You can often pick up Vacuum Pro for $14.99 with the Fresh Air preset pack included, and from what you describe, it might be the closest of them all to having a preset that would serve the purpose.

It's over the cutoff price, but if you don't already have Hybrid 3 and Xpand! 2, go get 'em. I think they're both $14.99. I don't yet have Loom 2 so I can't personally vouch for it, but it gets great reviews for that price. It's $14.99 right now.

I personally recommend Hybrid and Vaccuum Pro, They're very very powerful.

If you don't have any money on budget though, Vember Audio's Surge VST is a great offering.

There was a thread at vi-control addressing the lack of quality.  This is the only thread that has mentioned this developer.  Basically these are not hidden gems. Some have bought from them then deleted them.

    You mean this thread? https://vi-control.net/community/threads/who-knows-this-company-sonex-strange-pricing.79952/

If so, hooo boy. I grabbed their free pads offering, and I am prepared for the worst.

This developer brings up a red flag in other forums.  Their stuff is not good.

Would you like to elaborate? I am curious myself.

(Also worth mentioning that their catalog is 80% off at the moment)

Let him have it. Maybe he has a point? Not that what he said is absolute truth. I mean, it's a pretty ridiculous notion that musicians "back then" had "actual skill and talent", as if the opposite was never true back then, and is generally true now. It's a nonsensical proposition, and it's only fair to assume that's not exactly what he meant.

Instead of straight-out telling him to get off the high horse, maybe you should think where your inner elitist resides on this matter? Is there a method and means of music production which you'd look down on, and criticize for lack of human involvement in the creative process?

The mistake is in assuming that there is no skill or talent involved in the MIDI editing process. Considering the legacy of Cakewalk and what it's created for, y'all should really know better.

Mixbus is intended to be an emulation of Harrison's analog consoles and a tape  deck.

When you understand THAT'S  the paradigm,  I think some of the "limitations" make a whole lot more sense; it's like we're back in 1982 and sitting behind a Harrison 32c recording and mixing onto tape.

You know, back when musicians with actual skill and talent played actual performances that got captured for posterity.

I would rather you cut the elitism out. There is no reason to look down on people who edit MIDI and compose music.

  7. So trhere was this song that I mastered back in 2012 when I was just starting out to produce songs. At the time, I had Sonar X1 Studio and did not have the luxury of ProChannel plugins. In any case, there was this Dimension Pro patch that I remembered using that was layered on top of the Pianos and it had a pretty nice effect. Unfortunately, due to having no audio interface at the time, I was forced to use onboard audio and rendered everything out before disconnecting and removing the synths to save on RAM and CPU. (I didn't know what freezing synths did at the time) So I ended up losing all of the synth and patch data that I used for that particular song. You can hear it at play whenever the Piano was playing, but for those who want quick examples, it comes in most clearly at the beginning, 1:58 and 3:09. I have spent countless hours looking for it, so any help would be nice.
