The time portal that Larry uses to get the word on upcoming deals (which he won from an alien in a hand of blackjack) malfunctioned and he found himself in 1962. He then became obsessed with buying what would be vintage guitars and stashing them in places he would be able to find in the current day (time portals tend to demagnetize guitar pickups, cause capacitors to explode, etc. and have limited space so not practical for transporting hardware). Unfortunately Larry forgot that today's money isn't the same as that used in 1962 and the FBI is actively after his keister seeking to ask a variety of questions and test their latest assortment of cattle prods and rubber truncheons. Understandably Larry would rather avoid connecting with these wannabie friends and being that they are between him and his portal his return has been slightly delayed. The only reason I know any of this is that I found a letter from Larry postmarked 1962 hidden among my mom's memorabilia - now I understand why my little brother doesn't look anything like my dad...5 points

I'm not sure I see the *need* for collaborators to be on the same DAW. Citizen Regen has two members recording in Studio One, one in CbB, one in Ableton, and one in Reaper (he used to use Digital Performer). It's never hindered us. Why? All members transfer full length 24/48 wav/flac files. We don't need DAW specific project/song files to get the collab done.4 points

The problem I have with this is that the Presonus team is only so big. If they aren't adding staff for this new version, that means the current people will be working on the new product. If they are working on the new thing, they aren't working on Studio One Pro. So even if they aren't getting rid of S1 Pro.... It still suffers.4 points

I grabbed a cheap crossgrade to Studio One 3 Pro when Gibson announced the end of Cakewalk Sonar Platinum. And I've kept up with updates, so I'm current. At my current DAW proficiency level, there is really nothing earth shattering in Studio One Pro that I cannot also do in Cakewalk. But here are some of the more interesting features in Studio One that you will not find in Cakewalk, and I would like to grow into them: https://www.presonus.com/products/Studio-One/features#group-Studio-One-Professional Notion integration - send projects back and forth between the Notion application and Studio One Score Editor - based on Notion Chord Tracks Harmonic Editing - for MIDI & audio Show Page - Performance View Show Page - Live Arranging adds the arranger track to the show page Live chord information - floating chord display shows both the current and next chord, as well as a progress bar to indicate the time to the next chord change Multi Instruments - stack multiple instruments as layers or splits on a single instrument track Sample One XT - integrated sampler Impact XT - integrated drum sampler Scratch Pads - works with the arranger track to provide an easy way to experiment with different arrangements or versions of a section without jeopardizing your existing work and hassling with saving copies Project Page - transfer Studio One mixes to the project page for mastering4 points

The worst case scenario is to dust off the credit card and head to the Steinberg shop... The cheapest scenario would be to spend more time with your backup DAWs if you got 'em, just in case. *Edit: the worst, worst case would be if you decided you needed to buy a Mac so that you could buy Logic Pro. The bonus there is that you would get Garage Band for free!!! ?4 points

For basic tasks I feel this should be the goal of any software. The manuals these days are not always the most user friendly and some are just plain massive in size, plus a new user might not even know the proper term for what they want to do (so cannot look it up anyway). YouTube videos that are short and to the point have closed this gap in some ways, but they are not often the most searchable, and people tend to meander when making them (playing back at double speed helps, but still... scripting productions has fallen by the wayside due to the ease of post-production). Case in point (manual size)... I was looking at upgrading DaVinci Resolve for 4K+ video work, so downloaded the manual first... 3625 pages! Applications where you need to invest 100+ hours just for basic functions need to rethink GUI, include interactive help features (which can be toggled on/off), or even enlist a new user and watch them use it to see what they want to do with things they are looking at. Some actually do this, but it is not very common. Melda is another example (non-intuitive features)... very powerful plugins, but once you go into Edit screens, not everything is intuitive or goes way too deep. MDrummer has a randomization setting buried in the settings (on by default) that is a nuisance... If someone is building a track by firing off MIDI blocks of bars (pretty common), they are probably not going to want those MIDI notes to randomize as they are working in a live playback scenario.3 points

I like their implementation of Arranger track over CbB. There is no finalization process like CbB it's more WYSIWG. I like the chord track when used properly. Works best on clean guitars (over distorted guitars), clean piano or organ and vocals (i,e. pre FX). I prefer the "put a bus anywhere you want in the mixer and that a bus can also be a folder in the mixer. Don't need to see the vocals tracks, collapse them. The built in Monitor 2Bus that can contain ARC or SONARWORKS or Slate's VSX is nifty too. And not interfere with your mixdown. Again, all this "works for me". FYI, my MIDI usage is limited, I'm not a synth or orchestrator guy, so their MIDI implementation is enough for me.3 points

Back in 2015, I demoed a bunch of DAWs and my short list was down to Cakewalk and Studio One. I found a deal for S1 Producer and went with that and haven't looked back. It wasn't really anything specific. I found I kept comparing any other DAW I demoed to S1. The workflow was intuitive and worked for me.3 points

As is said many times here and all over the internet, "use what works best for you" and I'll add "there really is no 'superior' DAW" Having used CbB, Reaper, Studio One, ProTools, Cubase, Harrison Mixbus 32C, Samplitude, Mixcraft , Digital Performer, Logic and Reaosn the question, to me, is not which is superior, but features work best for me. As of today, I'm most comfortable in Studio One.3 points

Sure, but it sounds like you have people who already know what they’re doing. For those who haven’t recorded before, being able to share a project that has everything set up with guide tracks is invaluable (and there still was a learning curve).2 points

I see UNIFY as mainly a plug in that shows off one of the best sound programmers out there. It's really pretty amazing what he does. If you look at the individual building blocks he uses to make his sounds, the efx aren't really anything special. UNIFY allows you to do anything he can do, however we ain't him, so your results might vary. I still highly recommend buying the program if you're looking for sound inspiration and/or don't have the time to do what Skippy does. Yes, you could similarly stack tracks in a DAW and get very similar results. Skippy's program has some advantages though because it is very file friendly whereas many DAWs are more specific. UNIFY reminds me of Cantabile in some ways since you can mix and match plugins and instruments within it. In a nutshell it's a very versatile plugin shell.2 points

This is what the girlfriend and I did during the last few months of isolation - got really drunk and did things like pretending we were 1969/Abbey Road era Beatles or something... Stupid Song idea totally ripped off from The Beatles: Krist Guitar - Krist Overdubs - Kyoko Totally Unrehearsed Bass - Kyoko Piano - Krist, under Kyoko's supervision - and heavy quantization (mainly). Keys - Kyoko Drums - Both of us idiots PLUS programming Goofs - Mostly Krist Cuteness: Definitely Kyoko Vocals: We could not get Paul McCartney to take our call so there's no vocal. (Ringo did take our call and agreed to sing, but he sang out of tune, so we threw tomatoes at him until he left). Recording Engineer: Astrid the dog Mix Engineer: What's that? Like, a unicorn? Definitely not mixed. Special thanks to: Clos du Bois red wine.2 points

All FX racks and ProChannels signals flow top to bottom. All clips have an FX rack. All tracks and buses have an FX rack. All audio and instrument tracks have a ProChannel. The ProChannel may be before or after the track FX rack. Sends are all post FX. The Send PRE/POST switch refers to the position of the send relative to the volume fader.2 points

I wonder if the Fender CEO can figure out how to use these without an MIT degree? Bill2 points

Any substantial changes at PreSonus are probably a long way off, and likely nothing to be too concerned with until more is known. But I will add that this quote from the Fender CEO tells me that he really knows nothing at all about DAWs, or the recording process. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in him or any of his ideas regarding the product line. A Fender guitar might get away with a one page user manual, but a DAW? ? “Having dabbled in recording myself, I’ve never found a DAW I didn't need an MIT degree to actually use. You shouldn't need to spend more time figuring out how to use a DAW than you do creating."2 points

I can already see the teaser campaign........ Are you fed up with having all that stuff to play with ? Could that be the real reason that you're not a global megastar ? Wouldn't it be somehow better if you had knack all ? You spoke and we listened..... Welcome to Presonus Studio None.2 points

I guess that's how you interpret it, as is your prerogative, but that statement seems pretty "iffy", and I DID read the entire article. Business people are "Politicians" for money. They say LOTS of things. For instance "Lifetime Updates for Sonar Professional", and THEN the company goes belly up! Had it not been for Bandlab we ALL would have basically been played for fools (which we were!) and had to move on! Like I said before, when Cakewalk said "LIFETIME UPDATES" they meant the lifetime of the COMPANY - not OURS! So technically they didn't "Lie" per se, they just played POLITICS! We can go back and forth all day....BOTTOM LINE....IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN....just like the article said!2 points

At one time I started a similar project. I had just acquired the Oberheim 8-Voice from Cherry Audio and thought "wouldn't it be cool to do a 70's-style epic synth opus"? No samplers, no acoustic instruments, no vox, just lots of layers of subtractive synths. Well, that project sits unfinished along with a couple hundred other half-baked ideas. Lately, I've been thinking about taking a bunch of those unfinished ideas and stringing them together. Last year I gave the project another shot. I let go of my strict no-samples requirement and allowed myself to use Superior Drummer for drums. The rest is all true to the original concept, consisting entirely of subtractive synths. This is where I left off on that one... https://soundclick.com/r/s86sea No current projects, sadly, as my DAW is being rebuilt after it fried on a hot day.2 points

Free choices from group buys are eligible now. Something I and a couple others here really pushed for and got the team to implement. For example, those who own T-RackS Sunset Sound Studio Reverb qualify for the 9.99 upgrade (vs 49.99) MixBox Sunset Sound modules. Do they get it right every time? No. But I also now take part in a regular meeting with the lead of the team that sets up the eligibility and the reminders are not so gentle any more so I hope this gets squared away to be right each time, every time, from the go.2 points

OK, great! And if you do ever decide to take a peek with an alternative MIDI event list editor, the Reaper DAW has a decent one. Reaper is fully functional and free to download and use for 60 days. https://www.reaper.fm/ Reaper is a very small 15MB download, and it has a much more modern UI than that Anvil Studio linked above. Anvil is still currently being developed, but looks like something still lost in the 90's.1 point

I'm in the same state as probably 1.000.000 other producers of electronic music: sitting here trying to find a path to releasing another actual song from one of the several dozen of (really good, IMO) song ideas I have on my computer that are 50-75% "there." One of the problems with the genre, and it's the reason that multiple books and articles on this subject have been written, is that it has no fixed set of instruments and sounds. The forms are loose, the sky's the limit. It's easier to know when a 4-piece indie rock song is ready for final mixing. All parts have been nailed, takes have been recorded. But with electronica, there's always some little bit of ear candy that can be dropped in. It's a hobby, I consider my songs messages in bottles. I wrap 'em up, toss 'em out there, and maybe 100 years from now some hipster will be digging deeply into early 21st century bedroom chillout and thrill their friends with the totally obscure stuff they found. That's the level of success I aspire to. But....no deadlines except my own death, which should be upcoming in 3 or 4 decades (although I'm rooting for being a brain floating in a jar on a shelf who can control soft synths with my thoughts). The depression and anxiety that have been my emotional wallpaper for almost as long as I can remember don't help at all. But one of the things that can put me in a rare state of giddy joy these days is coming up with a great new set of changes, sounds, and rhythm. Making it into a 2-minute snippet I can listen to on repeat while I drift off to sleep. "I made that! It sounds awesome!" I'd like to be able to share more of it, though. The thought of helping someone to feel happy, get closer to an emotion, relax, or however they connect with music seems to me to be part of my answer to "what's it all about."1 point

I've been wanting to do a prog project for a long time but wouldn't because it seemed to me a project like that would require outside players even though I play guitar, drums, and keys. Somewhere along the way I said the hell with it and I'm doing what I want! Right now I'm working on my third album and each album pushes me closer and closer to a true prog release. This one is more guitar oriented instead of keys like the first two. So far I have four pieces ready to mix and about 23-25 to finish I even have the album cover done and the artwork for the back cover done....just need to fill in the text! As a "one man band" it's both rewarding and difficult doing everything yourself. I just built a new machine- ASUS ProArt Z690 Creative Wi-Fi board, i9 12900k, 128gb Ram(DDR5), yadda yadda...Motu Midi Express XT, Presonus Quantum 2626. Runs anywhere from 2ghz to 5ghz depending on the load. Got 2 out of 4 M2's in(1tb OS, 2tb Audio drive) and 4 sata hdd....I can either throw 2 more M2's in or 4 more sata drives, or 1 more M2 and the 4 more sata drives!! If I can't make music now it's not the hardware or softwares fault Bill1 point
