For those that haven’t noticed, version 1.5.0 of Addictive Keys introduced a scalable GUI in November 2021. That was a big deal to me. Also Addictive Drums, Addictive Trigger and the effects DS-10 and RC-20 have all (quietly) been made scalable. Found in the upper-right corner menu under UI Scaling and Settings.4 points

Color Toolbar v2.8.5 Released! Download: https://s1scripts.wixsite.com/colortoolbar/download Check out the animated gif on the homepage for a quick demo of all the coloring features: https://s1scripts.wixsite.com/colortoolbar Here's what's added in the latest release: New features added: Skip - Conform now skips coloring Track and Channel names that start with a "!". This is useful if you start with pre-colored templates or have custom colored sections using the Tint/Shade/Gradient tools and want to preserve their colors independent of a Conform. 2 Character Filter Prefix - In addition to single character (v.) filter prefixes followed by a "." or colon ":", Conform now supports 2 character (vm.) filter prefixes as well. This is useful if you want to separately color sections of a choir or orchestra and retain the ability to use free form descriptive track names that are not matched exactly to a track name. Fixed: Not coloring prefixes for tracks with no channels. Not coloring prefixes for tracks with no channels ie: Automation Tracks. Improvements made: The previous Slot Editor pop-up dialog box is now embedded within the Color Toolbar "Detached" panel. This **major workflow design change provides easier access **to everything you need to customize colors and move names. By merely selecting a current slot you now have full control over color adjustments and name/keyword moving in a more natural workflow.4 points

I saw on FB that yesterday was the anniversary of the release of Deep Purple In Rock. In 1972, we were living in Frankfurt and my mother took me out of school for a week to go with her to Berlin, a sightseeing trip. My father's job in the Air Force was sensitive and he wasn't allowed to travel to the East Zone, so I was volunteered. Took the train, and I remember being stopped at the border, and East German and Soviet soldiers boarding and searching the train. I wonder what they were looking for? We stayed in a military-run hotel and spent the week seeing the sights, hence the name. Checkpoint Charlie and the wall, the Brandenburg Gate and all the other points of interest. While walking along the Kurfurstendamm, I spied a record store, and went in while Mom took a break at a coffee shop. Deep Purple was kind of a new band to me, and I found In Rock in the bins and thought the cover was cool. I bought it, I think for 12 DM? About 3 bucks. Man, that album blew me away. Listening to it in my room with the speakers next to my head (I already had ear damage, so, why not?) it was amazing to hear and feel. Sent me on a Deep Purple album-buying spree. One of my favorite bands ever. I still have it.2 points

This update mania! ? It seems that WE all are not of value anymore, because we're not updated! ? And the Ferrari of the 60ties, the stradivarius violin, they have no value anymore, because they are not updated! How crazy is this kind of view? Modern times! I have a lot of plugins and other software that have not been updated for years, and I can tell you that I have less problems with them than with "modern, updated" software! But YMMV!2 points

I just fired up the forum member search and had a quick rifle through it. There's a member called Rick Forbes listed. Hasn't signed in since the one and only post listed to that member, but if you happen to know that his last name was Forbes, it might be worth firing off a quick PM as that would trigger a notification to his email address if he has that function activated.2 points

It could just be me, I had spent several hours working with a Superior Drummer 3's, Rooms of Hansa, Marble room kit, which are quite lively and bright, prior to listening to your track. The result was the kit sounded a little boxy and flat to my furry ears. If you are happy then that is all that really matters. Your music your choices.2 points

We all hate changing our workflow. I started on an Atari and KCS by Dr T. That was an all event list sequencer no piano roll. When my Atari died in about 2004 I was “forced “ to change my workflow to Cakewalk and the PVR. Sure at first it was slow and I didn’t understand nothing but now when I open the Event list in Cakewalk I’m 100% glad I don’t have to use it. All improvements and workflow enhancements are within the PVR not the outdated event list or the staff views. So your basically on your own if you choose not to update your workflow. I can actually fire up my old XP computer and run STeam Atari emulation and KCS still works but it would be sort of pointless. So that’s your best option. If you want to stay in the past it’s best to keep the Computers from that era going.2 points

That policy of having to download everything within 180 days is absolutely insane. I'd love to know the reason for it. If it's to reduce web traffic, I doubt it's effective because every customer now has to download everything just in case (I personally download everything for Mac and PC). Ironically, this policy might mean IK have more web traffic since people download everything instead of just what they need. If it's to make money, there has to be a better way to profit than charging your customers $10 to download something they own.2 points

This is a song I actually wrote 7 years ago, but it could have easily been written today. The saddest thing about it is that absolutely nothing has changed in those years, in fact things have gotten worse and even more divided. Divided (We All Fall)1 point

The last job I did was a favor for a Tim McGraw impersonator. He was facebooking himself to chicks all through the session. He was set to do a concert and his promoter wanted to have CD's to sell. They were considered favors. This whole thing was shady from the start. He had user written all over him. Not the least bit interested in the tech or how I did what I did. He wanted a master and he wanted it cheap. He happened to know me through some other people. I was dumb enough to oblige because I thought I was helping him out. He ended up in a fight with his promoter and all my work still sits on a hard drive. I hate to delete it, but I know I'll never use it.1 point

Grem, I can almost see the allure of a 'tribute' lookalike geetar such as the Joe Strummer Telecaster or EVH's Frankenstrat. But a guitar artificially aged seems pointless to me. Albeit I don't take my guitars on the road but my US P-bass, US J-bass, US Tele, US Strat, ESP and my beloved Ruby are all 8 - 15ish years old (all acquired new) and not one of them has as much as a dink or scratch on them anywhere. If someone offered to take a power tool to any of them to 'make them better' my response would not be favourable ?1 point

Better than thinking about the vintage gear that you bought new but then sold for cheap because you thought its value was dropping because it was getting old.1 point

Just because you would do it for free doesn't mean you shouldn't charge. Charging gets lots of positive outcomes, like respect and people showing up on time. As a child, charging the neighbor to mow his grass seemed somehow wrong, but as an adult, I see he would have been fine with me charging anything appropriate and doing the work. You have a skill that is worthy of being compensated. At the same time, you have a hobby you love. Don't price out anyone you love working with. Maybe forgive charges. Be generous. But make it clear that your time has value too. I recently had a friend really shop working with me... like was it worth his time to come play guitar for an hour. He has since scheduled twice to come record and been a no-show both times. I'm pretty sure if I charged something appropriate I wouldn't have to deal with that, either b/c he'd show or wouldn't book. You deserve respect as an artist too. Your time is valuable too. I sound tough, but I'm a weeny. I don't normally charge anything and I get treated like a hero by some and crap by others. I have been mentioned in liner notes on a few records. That's my big claim to fame. And I have many hundreds of albums as examples of my work. Live field recordings. Home studio stuff. The gambit. Actually, the trick for me is finding people I want to hang with in my space. They tend to come and go like friends. The band you are working with displaces the others you might work with. And like friends, when they band moves on, a hole is left. It can take time to fill the hole with whomever is next, but that's part of the journey too.1 point

Sad one for sure. The newly released Prophet 10 (and Prophet 5) are outstanding. Dave Smith somewhat recently collaborated with Tom Oberheim to release the Sequential OB6. Shame to see him pass... when there's somewhat of a renaissance with analog synths.1 point

Hi Mark - thanks for that, appreciated - if you get good Guitar IR's, I find they really make a difference - I purchased some really good ones from these people https://worshiptutorials.com/acoustic-guitar-impulse-responses/ however I am sure they have regular sales - i don't remember paying that amount. Nigel Hi Freddy - your time is always appreciated - thanks for those great comments Nigel Hi Douglas - ha ha about the Porta Studio - after this recording I went out and purchased a Porta Studio, which I think I only ever used a couple of times before I discovered the brave new world of computers!! I still have mine as well tucked away in a cupboard somewhere!!! Cheers Nigel1 point
