  2. Introducing the VLA-2A Mark II It's the same beautiful compressor as the original VLA-2A, but with new features that catapult this unit into the 21st century! It captures the beauty of opto-electronics by adding warm, breathy compression and tube saturation to your tracks, for that unmistakable vintage flair. 7. Just realized my right and left hands don't match. Left is 7.5", right hand is 8". That might explain why it's hard to find gloves that fit. Makes sense, I guess, given the superior work ethic of the right hand. It does everything, from scrubbing pans to pruning roses. I am, however, impressively ambidextrous when it comes to nose-detritus removal.

  10. nice and funky! dig the guitar fills... drums are smooth and well tamed. this would totally work with a vocal treatment, without changing a thing instrumentally, you'd have to find a good jazz style singer and just cut em loose on it, if you wanted to discover another version. i like kurt s's suggestion. that would lift it one more level.

  17. Isn't it true, though? Why are you so resistant to the idea of a little housekeeping by posting in the most appropriate subsection? When we registered for the forum we all gained access to all parts of it, so there's nothing but habit keeping us from moving around instead of getting stuck in Deals. Maybe we should form new habits that adhere to how the forum is organized instead of stampeding it into something unrecognizable out of stubbornness. Organization of the forum into subsections serves everyone as it makes relevant discussions and information easier to find. Taking this thread to its appropriate subforum (e.g. "Production Techniques: Discuss best practices for mixing, recording, production techniques, music distribution, etc.") would make it easier to find, make more room for actual deals here, and prevent the constant stream of deal announcements from knocking it off the first page. If someone comes here just for the deals then these threads are noise to them, while the appropriate content of Deals is inherently an unstable environment for long, meaningful discussions. I don't think the quality of this discussion is by any stretch of imagination a consequence of the thread being posted on the Deals subsection, as I wouldn't expect desirable personality traits to cluster with deal chasing. Not that I gave it much thought (change my mind). I don't really care so much for strict compartmentalization and am all for free discussion and stream of consciousness type of thing, but I think the off-topic posts (i.e. chatter taking place within threads pertaining to deals) add significantly less entropy than routinely starting off-topic threads. It seems you're trying to establish your own law that would make the forum adjust to your habits, first by tarring & feathering our friend and now sanctifying it by appealing to communality, in effect repelling criticism - whereas in my view the criticism is valid because the forum already facilitates all kinds of interaction by virtue of its subsections and all we have to do is make better use of them by adjusting ourselves.

  20. The tempo track shares the same envelope editor as the automation lanes. When using jumps in automation, the dotted lines literally mean no automation at all. This means if you started a project in the middle of a dotted area, no automation would be sent out until it reached a node. Obviously you can't have an area in the project with no tempo, so for tempos, there's pretty much no difference between a jump and a straight line. It's really down to how you want to work. Multiple nodes at the same position should in most cases end up being merged into one node. If in doubt, refer to the Tempo Inspector to see if the list of tempos makes sense - and of course, there's nothing wrong with deleting nodes / changing them to jumps if you want to. Obviously, if the rare case when you start seeing strange envelopes being drawn with nodes / lines in the wrong place, this is a bug - the easiest way around this is to simply delete the offending nodes. FYI - this is how the tempo track works: 1. The tempo stream contains shape events in exactly the same way as an automation lane contains shapes. 2. When you change the tempo envelope, behind the scenes a linear list of tempo changes ( the tempo map ) is regenerated based on snapshots of the tempo envelope at regular intervals. By default this is every 1/16th note, although it can be changed in Cakewalk.ini to be a higher resolution using the TempoMapDecimationResolution setting. 3. The resultant tempo map is exactly the same tempo map used prior to the introduction of the tempo track. 4. Saving a project saves both the tempo track envelope and the tempo map. This approach has several advantages: 1. The vast majority of the code didn't need to be changed, as it's referring to exactly the same tempo map as it did before. In other words, the tempo track is used for only as an editor for the tempo map, and only the tempo map is used when playing, or whenever edit operations need to calculate the current tempo - just as it did before. 2. Projects remain both forward and backward compatible with SONAR and earlier versions of CbB : Backwards compatible, because we can generate a tempo envelope from an existing tempo map if a tempo envelope doesn't exist; forwards compatible because there's always a tempo map stored with the project - earlier versions will simply ignore the tempo envelope stream. 3. We can use the same envelope editor for the tempo track as we do for automation envelopes. For the most part the tempo track envelope is king, and the tempo map is only generated from the tempo track envelope. There are a few exceptions where the opposite happens - i.e. the tempo map is manipulated directly and the tempo track envelope is then regenerated from the map: Loading older projects that don't have a tempo track envelope Set Measure / Beat at Now Tempo detection from audio - either through AudioSnap, or using Melodyne (drag audio track to time ruler) In these cases, separate Cakewalk.ini variables are used to determine the resolution the envelope should use. The ini file settings are documented here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Tempo.15.html

  21. This. There should be nothing you need that is only available as a 32-bit plug-in. Modern Lost Angel is an effect that is especially unnecessary with Cakewalk. The much better CA/2A (also an LA/2A clone) is right there in your ProChannel, and it doesn't get any more compatible than that. I think the rest of Antress' FX are also 32-bit and they're mostly clones of hardware that other people have since cloned as 64-bit freeware. Analog Obsession is a good source of such things. If you want to find good 64-bit freeware that's been checked out by other Cakewalk users, there is a thread in the Instruments & Effects subforum that has more than you could probably ever hope to use.

  25. I used to make a lot of videos, using Premiere Elements (good software), mainly shot on my trusted Canon MVX250i DV camcorder. I spent many hours doing the real-time capture then adding titles, transitions, FX, and SmartSound audio tracks before rendering to a finished project. I can now shoot better quality footage in HD on my smartphone and yet I almost never bother. I guess I just fell out of love with it, just at the point when it's never been easier to do. Ironic, right?

  32. The only reason I can think of that CbB would not “seem “ to run as well as X3 is user error. I have X3 still installed just to have the stuff that was included. I just opened it after reading this and very quickly saw that I could never go back.

  37. LOL, I had the same reaction initially! Even got paranoid and made sure they are the same size. For guitarists, the fret hand also has stronger muscles to spread the fingers, while the other just holds the pick. Not much use on the piano for right-handed players though, since the right hand does more work most often on the keys. Maybe guitarists who play left-handed can put it to use.

  39. Bodily facts........ It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach. One human hair can support 6.6 pounds. The average man’s pen is is two times the length of his thumb. Human thighbones are stronger than concrete. A woman’s heart beats faster than a man’s. There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet. Women blink twice as often as men. The average person’s skin weighs twice as much as the brain. Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still. If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it. Women will be finished reading this by now. Men are still busy checking their thumbs.

  44. I have 2 Octo TBs for my Mac and 2 Octo USB for my PC and I've never once thought about what they look like internally. It would only make sense it's a PCI-e card but without the end piece that locks it down to the case. When/if you do open it up, please let me know (simply for curiosity sake mind you).
