  2. Well, I got so much IK stuff that even with me in the lowly $49 level I got a lot more added to my available picks. I will have to go through each one, but I think I already have them all. Still, it was a wonderful thing IK did to help make this the best sale ever. I told ya'll it would go all the way!!

  6. Once again, Bapu, you beat me to posting here. While working on this acoustic guitar library, it quickly became my favorite. It really gets that sound of the guitar with super old strings that you don't change because they have a certain magic to them.

  15. I think the Cakewalk documentation may need a refresh. Could also be that the authors of the documentation were making the assumption that the user would only enable plugin upsampling on a handful of plugins. Which I think makes sense. You would think that if they intended on the user enabling upsampling on a bunch of plugins they would have come up with a more useful user interface for such a task.

  16. I've received many comments and questions about how I integrate software synthesis, with the many arpeggiation, filtering, envelope and sync-to-tempo options with virtual orchestral instruments. When orchestrating a passage that contains a synth timbre, listen closely to the harmonic pattern and/or the rhythmic pattern that is being expressed in the arpeggiation sequence or filtering. This information can give you both melodic and harmonic clues as to how to proceed with orchestration. Also, it is very common with many synth timbres that the attack times can be very fast, faster than many acoustic instruments are capable of. The solution is to simply delay the entire synth track by X number of milliseconds or ticks (division of quarter notes into 480,. 960, etc.) so that the synths and the samples have better coordination with their attacks. Measures 45-65 demonstrates some of these techniques: Example Jerry

  17. I have been lurking with bated breath. I have been rolling over the numbers in my back pocket. How could I pass up such schweet deal? Well, I have AT5, MD Drums, MD Bass, TR Deluxe, SSS reverb, MP 2, et al. There is just not enough cream left in the pail. I wanted to stroke the wand for ST4, as I only have ST3, but it seems as if I have yet to dive headlong into ST3, which has enough victuals for a small banquet. I wish I would have snatched Kontakt 6 during the summer sale. However, my mind is not yet negatively persuaded in the finite fashion. One only needs so much fat, and then it is a glu honestly though, this is a great deal for the initiate, the broker, and the collector. GBIK IKYDC

  20. Heads up for bundle owners- When I logged in the price showed as $16 because I own Ultimate. It ALSO showed as $14 because I own Toolbox Pro (which is a subset of Ultimate). Weird. I was able to make the purchase for $14 US (local sales taxes were computed in to keep the price exactly $14.00) https://kilohearts.com/products/convolver From the email- Don't be fooled into thinking that convolution is limited to just making nice reverbs... it can also impart the character of particular microphones or speakers, mimic unusual filters, or simply generate mathematical magnificence. Browse over 300 factory IRs and discover just some of the effects that can be created using this process. You can also load your own samples! Convolver Features: Choose from over 300 factory IRs or load your own Start and End controls Fade in and Fade Out controls Stretch and Reverse Pre-delay control Feedback control Tone control Mix control Tooltips for all controls Available as a Snapin in any Kilohearts Snapin Host The best way to find out what Convolver is capable of is to try it out for yourself with a free trial. But make sure you don't miss the intro offer, which will expire on the 15th of October!

  25. I have their Collab3 and Electrix and both have the same issues in Cakewalk with constantly having stuck notes. Both of them were free, so I have never bothered the dev asking for support. But I really like the way both VSTs sound, but their problems have kept me from buying other virtual instruments from them. Has anyone else used them in Cakewalk and either not had the same issues or figured out a fix? If I knew there was a fix, I'd strongly consider their other virtual instruments and I feel grateful for the ones I have that the dev gave away free. Except for the constant stuck notes, they are simple, straightforward instruments that sound very good.

  28. I just noticed that the descriptions do not always align with the name. They are off by one starting with Amplitube 5 SE but seem to get back ok with the JCA100H. But there are other areas that are off, ex. arc3 software only, EQ73. Not a big deal and doesn't take away the usefulness of the spreadsheet.

  31. Here’s a new way I discovered that is perfect for singer songwriter stuff. Input 1 vocal mike Input 2 guitar Record your song best as you can focus on the tempo and a solid punchy rhythm . Don’t worry about the details of performance as these 2 track will get re done. Don’t use the metronome Drag the guitar track to the time line to create a tempo map. Record a bass track. Drag the bass track to a midi track and quantize and edit. Make it perfect. Use you favourite bass VST Insert you drum VST and now lay down kick track and quantize and edit to lock in with the bass. Now record the rest of the kit part by part. Quantize and edit. Now lay down some keyboard parts to fill in the space and add interest or a counter rhythm part. Of course you quantize! you now should have a bed track that is squeaky tight. Now sing you heart out and get a perfect vocal track. Gotta love Melodyne 5 Last I like to do the guitars so as to not walk all over the vocals and this will also ad the needed sloppiness to the tune.

  32. @Teegarden, you were curious as to whether the performance hit results I saw were specific to my vintage laptop. I repeated my playback experiments with running the project at 88.2 vs. upsampling all the plug-ins, and same thing, switching the rate to 88.2 incurred less of a performance hit than 2X'ing all the plug-ins. And, when I played the project at 88.2 and all the plug-ins 2X'd, I got the same "bum note" in my bass arp track as I did when rendering that way. Did you read my post where I tried various forms of higher sample rates (plug-in and project)? I must be in the top.1%, because I can hear a difference, and to me it's not even that subtle. Yes, I agree that after going through <256 lossy conversion, the differences probably wouldn't be audible, but I buy FLAC's on Bandcamp and purchase uncompressed or FLAC albums and songs from sites like HDTracks (OMG, Radiohead's Moon Shaped Pool at 48/24). This is becoming more of a trend. If you look at the Cakewalk documentation, one of the benefits of higher sampling rates is said to be "Phase shift is drastically reduced." p. 976 of the Ref Guide. Now I've speculated about how it can be that two power amps can sound different, how it can be that there's so much of a difference in detail and image. In my studio, I have two power amps for powering passive monitors. One is a Crown D60 amp from the '70's, designed for radio station studio monitoring and other pro audio uses. It's "only" 30 watts per channel. The other is an Alesis RA-100, originally designed and sold as a mate to the Alesis Monitor Ones that make up one of my monitoring systems. It's rated at 70 watts per channel. I tried an experiment where I switched my Monitor Ones and my Boston A70's back and forth between the two, and the difference was stunning. I had another musician friend in the studio at the time and he was also blown away by the difference. He's by no means any kind of audio freak, but he described the speakers being driven by the RA-100 as "squeezed" or "choked." or just "smaller." Even in mono, the Crown had a more vivid image. I suspect that the Crown was designed with a lot of attention to phase distortion and maybe group delay. I think something similar goes on with lossy compression and plug-ins that may sound optimal at higher rates. So why would lower rate lossy compression sound "2D" rather than "3D." Theory says that since humans can't hear anything above the frequency range, it's not possible to hear a difference. My (fully admit self-educated) theory is that there are other factors like phase and group delay that get messed up. It's not just about frequency response. @bitflipper suggested that I read Fletcher and Munson to get a better understanding of it, but I haven't yet. Another factor is what genre we're talking about. I'm in awe of artists like Tipper and Telefon Tel Aviv, who create detailed sonic immersive spaces. There's a higher percentage of their fans who know that their stuff will sound better in lossless and with bit perfect playback, on a system with less phase distortion, etc. I'd like to impress those people too. Even for people who don't listen "critically," I think the extra detail can come through subliminally.

  34. Thanks - glad you liked it. I'm not associated with any music related company, so this isn't an attempt at any kind of upsell, but if you're considering Full Kontakt at some point, it might be an idea to pick up a Player library that you can upgrade to Kontakt with. Libraries and Kontakt upgrades go on sale from time to time, and once you get full Kontakt a whole world of freebies gets opened up, e.g. I've picked up 32 free KLANG instruments so far; there's a free edition of DRONAR; and some online stores sometimes have time-limited offers of a free library with a minimum spend. Edit: and also what abacab said

  41. Websters says "marked by the ability or power to create : given to creating." In my older age, I have a tighter definition than I used to. In order to be "creative," a person must actually create things. Otherwise, all we're doing is creating thoughts inside our heads, and anyone can do that. The fact that my thoughts are about music or visual art instead of, say, car stereos, doesn't make me creative any more than thinking about boats would make me a sailor. Part of this attitude comes from dating "art girls" who came equipped with a portfolio of projects they did in art school, and who looked and acted the part, but after I got to know them, I noticed that they never actually created anything. Well, except for confusion and bitterness in the minds of people they were involved with. 😂 It's just a label, anyway. Or a conceit. Bottom line, create something. The process of actually doing so tends to stimulate more ideas and more creations. Even if they're for nobody other than me, I'm fine with that. I would ideally like to share my creations with others, as I have enjoyed the creations of others. But that's not mandatory. Making music makes me happy in and of itself and that's enough. Anything else is gravy. YMM certainly V!
