Just a thought.... I like the added Subforums which in reality should have been done (and was lobbied for) from the beginning. However, wouldn't it have also made sense to move the Deals forum up with the Subforum big boys? Deals include both Hardware & Software and is one the most trafficked on the website IMHO. ....just a thought.

Um you are speculating. We don't need help to "rebuild the DAW" and building from scratch isnt a solution to any engineering problem. And your point that it crashes in X but not Y has no meaning. A crash is a bug in the plugin whether it doesnt happen in another DAW or not.

Yes this filters out presets that have gear you do not own (or corresponding to however you have the Gear Selector set).

So there is a "way" to downgrade the AAS plugins. It's painful but it can be done and it does fix my crashing issue. Here's the steps: You have to uninstall each of the plugins. If you run the older installer it won't downgrade, so you must uninstall them first. Then go to https://www.applied-acoustics.com/dl/ and enter your serial number. The download page that comes up will have a link for "Show all Windows installers" If you click that it shows you all the version history of the plugin and has links to download each one. You can then download the previous version (From Jan 2021). Not really sure how to roll back the AAS Player just yet though. And yes this fixed my crash on exit issue.

Thus, as long as the current versions run, I will not update anymore! As I do not use Apple quirk, nor do I want to drop 32-bit/Windows 7 support, what would I win else than losing some precious time of my life? Especially with such odd installers that produce a lot of manual work to clean up the chaos! More and more I have the feeling that I should not update most of my plugins. It just generates a lot of work and mostly there are no real improvements for me!

If every mix you do uncovers a bug then most likely there is a recurring theme of something common in your workflow and plugins, that exposes these issues and the only way to to isolate it is to log specific cases and follow up with us to help us diagnose the cause. This isn’t the normal experience for tens of thousands of users who use Cakewalk daily. I understand your frustration and we want to help, but making assumptions that all your issues are cakewalk problems without going through a proper troubleshooting process, is not going to be productive to solve them in itself. I’ve written at length about how most plugin issues are caused by lack of testing by plugin developers in multiple hosts (many only test on Mac DAW’s). About 70% of the issues we find are bugs in the plugins that are host specific. When we isolate them I report them to the developers and they normally fix them promptly. In other cases when possible we implement workarounds in the DAW but that isn’t always possible. Are you running the latest updates to Fabfilter? We use those plugins routinely and never have crashes. There were known crashes with it that the developer fixed in an update. Like us they are very proactive about fixing crashes. The bottom line is if a plugin crashes its almost certain that the root problem is unexpected code in the plugin. Always send all crash dumps for investigation. If the crash is in the plugin the dump should also be sent to the plugin developer since they are the most obvious candidate to fix the issue. The fact that a plugin crashes in one daw but not another only means that the plugin was not tested enough in that DAW. Please read my article on diagnosing plugin problems in the FAQ where I go into further depth on this issue if you want to learn more about it. Many users would differ with you on this. Ripple editing is a fundamental editing feature that is used under the hood in a variety of operations which is why it needs to be robust. We can’t possible please every user with every update, but we do but we try to cover a broad area of stability and workflow fixes in every release. One of your reported issues is already in the next update. I realize that it takes time to report issues, time that you could be making music, but if errors encountered are not reported there is little chance of them being investigated. The use cases in a DAW are enormous so many others may never encounter the specific problems you see. We take every reported case seriously even if we don’t get to fixing them immediately. If you are willing to work with us, you may find that most of your problems can be solved quickly.

I am jealous of American musicians. They have really good prices for hard- and software. E.g. the Ampeg RB-112 is $399 in many U.S. shops, here in Sweden prices are $535 (foreign shops active in Sweden) up to about $650 in "real" Swedish shops/sites. This is only an example, it's with almost everything like that. And since the EU defined that all products bought via internet are taxed in the country of the buyer and since our mail company (almost federal) has decided a very high fee on imports it got less interesting to order things from abroad, even in the EU! Terrible! It reminds me absolutely of the Soviet Union!

Thanks for the heads up on the Free version of Halion VST3. I have Cubase 7 Elements and it came with a Older SE version, this one might be an update so I thought I'd follow through. I also thought this might be a good replacement for TTS-1 because it too is a GM player. OK- you gotta register, no big deal this is expected from some freebies. I'm already registered but Steinberg didn't like my password so had to go through all that BS which seems like every time I log in to my account. It took a long time to download due to large library. ( which doesn't seems to exist?) WARNING- On install it has the list of items to be installed and one of them is that pesky Steinberg Generic ASIO driver. Knowing this is a real nasty takeover of my ASIO system for Cakewalk I did the smart thing and unchecked this. Otherwise it becomes your Timing master in Sync and Caching, not a good thing. If you only have on board audio then you will have to install this as there will be no other choices. It won't work in stand alone with on board sound cards without that stupid driver. Now first thing you have to do is activate it. This is were Steinberg sort of sucks big time. Years ago I got so fed up with the software licenser I had to fork over $35 for a USB dongle. The good thing is it sort of work 99% of the time and I can move between computers easily. Ya, 99% of the time, today was that 1% day. Took 15 minutes to get that working and I managed to add the license to the manager. I opened the stand alone version and this is were I found out I couldn't use it with on board audio. I don't use an ASIO interface on this computer right now because I don't record, just edit and TRY NEW VST's. I then open Cakewalk and had to add the Halion sub folder to the scan path to get it scanned. The scan took about 3 minutes. But there it was, So I opened a GM midi file to test and inserted it and deleted TTS_1. This seemed to work except the Halion had no sounds loaded. Digging around it seems there's nothing? All the menus are empty. I used the default pathways ( there was no choices) There's a Library Manager I opened and it said there are no licensed Libraries found? I looked in all likely locations and found no libraries. And it is odd that it doesn't warn you or something when it loads? OK that's my 2 hours wasted on a VST. This is basically one of those pointless exercises in frustration EVERY step of the way. So Welcome to Steinberg folks- enjoy the ride. I got off at the last stop. Oh, this is #1 reason I never switched over to Cubase when Cakewalk died. I do use Wave Lab a Lot but I am slowly finding other ways to do those tasks- for free- and more intuitive software that doesn't drive you nuts.

as an observation, going to PT, StudioOne, Cubase, Live, FL, REAPER forums you see complaints about crashing all the time. i've never seen a high end (>$25K worth of IO and computer) ProTools installation on a Mac, for example, ever work for more than about 4 hours without crashing completely. even with no plugins or only stock ones. so not sure that CbB is the least stable of DAW out there. i know on my desktop and laptop, i've gone easily 8-10 hours a day for a few days before i start seeing weird things - like no doubt memory holes being drilled by plugins and various Windows processes. then again, my workflows tend to be simple and i limit the number of cross-trakc/cross-buss routing and massive numbers of plugins and soft synths. probably no more than 40-50 tracks on a project and probably same number of plugins across all the tracks and busses. maybe a 12-15 soft synths which are typically then frozen during the mix.

I have the $50 voucher. If I had the $75, sure, I’d get it. But even at $49 it’s too much of a stretch. Next year it will be $29 as a regular sale item.

It would be great if we could enable and disable the metronome count in and if this feature were also accessible from ACT and or a Keyboard Shortcut. By the way there is also a very old bug where when the metronome count in is enabled. Cakewalk doesn't 'know' when to transmit the midi clock. For example I have Cakewalk starting my TR8S drum machine perfectly in sync to the midi clock. But when the metronome count-in is enabled Cakewalk will play the metronome count-in then get confused and start the drum machine late and out of sync. 😉

More testing of Acustica's Sienna headphone mixing software this afternoon with a pop/rock tune from 2004, used only my spot checking cans ATH-M30's..removed all the plugins & started from scratch.. Used a bit of eq & brickwall limiter on the master.

All their updated plugins are still crashing on exit/close for me and all I've gotten from them is total silence. You'd think they would at least tell me they can't reproduce it and that it's my problem. I wish they had older installers so I could fall back to what I had before this update, when everything worked.

I feared twice already what the improved behaviour could mean... more places where the plugins are installed? On a serious side I can hardly see a benefit from updating for just improved installer behariour (have only Chroma.v2 and the sessions).

A better question would be "Why do you still need Windows 7?" 😁 (That said, my current DAW server box is still running SONAR Producer v4 on XP! 😆 )

Why are you looking in Windows sound when you’re using an audio interface? The interface is you sound device. Make sure you download and install the latest ASIO drivers for the interface. Make sure your interface is the only device chosen in all the preferences/ Audio dialogue boxes. Make sure your master bus output is going to the Focusrite Alway use the ASIO driver with any audio interface Your speakers need to also be connected to the output of the interface not your computer. You can’t use both together, it’s one or the other. If you speakers don’t have the proper connection use the headphones or get an adapter

Brilliant! I just came back from hard work of cleaning my drives from AAS plugins spammed all over the place (and even twice in my main Vstplugins folder!) and need a shower now. If it's a some OSX maintenance update I simply don't wanna go back there to clean all that stuff again. Please keep us posted .

I have a presonus faderport 8 that I really like in studio.one but also works pretty well in Cakewalk in mackie mode. I use it primarily for transport and navigation, but it is just fun to be able to control several channels at the same time and to do things like automation rather than drawing it in. Only if you've defined mappings for your transport & faders.... if your controller is emulating a Mackie, you can probably map the transport, but faders probably won't work. The ONLY reason for installing the MMcL Mackie Control version would be to have a second (but independent) Mackie Controller alongside the Cakewalk Mackie Control. So in my studio, I use the Cakewalk Mackie Control for my MCU + XT + C4, and the MMcL Mackie Control for the nanoKontrol 2 stuck on the wall. This means when I change banks of tracks on the nanoKONTROL 2, my MCU +XT + C4 don't change with it. Of course if I change a fader for a track that they're BOTH looking at, then yes, both of them will change. The "special"mapping for the nanoKONTROL 2 was allowing the Cycle (loop on/off) button to be used as a shift key for the other functions. These aren't needed on the MCU as it has all the extra buttons, whereas the nanoKONTROL 2 is pretty sparse in that respect. ACT allows you to define mappings to parameters on the fly. You can't do this with the Mackie Control. With the Mackie Control, Synth/Plugin parameters are either assigned automatically (i.e. in order that the plugin reports them), or can be mapped within MackieControl.ini. I wrote the C4Mapper utility to edit MackieControl.ini for you. Also, when editing synths with the Mackie Control / C4, it works on the Synth Rack... not on the active track. To be honest though, unless you've got a Mackie Control compatible control surface with a display over each track, it's gonna be pretty hard to use as you'll be essentially driving blind unless you memorise where all the parameters are. I keep meaning to get around to writing a display emulator, but I never seem to have the time nowadays! The other thing with synths, is that there's so many parameters available that it makes editing almost impossible. Even with my C4, which has 32 knobs, it doesn't even cover the parameters for a single oscillator on most VSTi's. Effects are much less of an issue. I use my C4 all the time for EQ's and compressors, and I've set up mappings to make sure the knobs are in a similar position for each plugin so it's dead easy to jump to the right one. But with the nanoKONTROL 2..... I guess that leaves you with a choice... do you want to use the nanoKONTROL for transport / faders, or do you want to use it as an ACT controller for synths? If you want both, you might want to consider getting another nanoKONTROL 2 (or something similar from another manufacturer so the MIDI devices don't get confused) and use one for transport and the other for ACT.
