Honestly, it sounds like you have a bad HDD that is about to die. If I were you I would urgently back up everything. In over 20 years of using Sonar/Cakewalk, I've never once had corrupted audio files. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have not posted on this forum before and only joined it a few hours ago, so who are you referring to when you say "no one seems to be able to fix the issue". I hope I'm not feeding the troll...3 points

as per Fleer's intuition ? What I find strange is we actually waste lots of time by messing around. ....let's just put this (plugin) on, than this, great it sounds better, than this... fiddle more, than more.. almost always sounds better, right, at least louder - louder is better... than fiddle some more, adjust fiddle again. Then I take everything away, and if level matched I almost always prefer the original. We loose so much especially with, De-Brethe, De-plause, de-ess, de-this, de-that = de-stroy! I find this especially true for the vocals, presuming they are well recorded in the first place. For all that ''wasted' time experimenting with the plugins I could have just gone through the original (edited) vocal track and make the required automation (or cuts- fades) for the relevant vocal elements. Same time spent = much better final result. But is it more fun than fiddling with the plugs? no way... just way more hard work = better results. But hold on aren't we the big boys with the toys, just love to be at play ?.?. SO here comes Larsy again with his another deal, we grab the 'virtual 'wallet, get the fix... and enjoy our play in our custom 'virtual' playground... finally! Seriously though... I always ask myself what is the reason for me destroying that lovely sound of my expensive mic, boutique pre amp and great compressor chain that I used at the tracking stage?3 points

Does it appear in the Command Center? Did you not save and backup all your files from the CCC download folder back when Gibson gave us the boot? These files are worth a lot of money and it's best practice to have them all backed up to a few safe locations. I certainly wouldn't count on those old Sonar servers being around forever.2 points

I cannot remember any Windows 10 update that had something new that I really needed! Most of the time the updates are only a pain, time wasted, settings reverted, some unnecessary cloud play things (child stuff), ... If I had the chance to choose, I would still use the first Windows 10 version!2 points

In addition what @John said, if you use the right click menu to insert a new track, you can select one track in the same breath to define where the new track has to be inserted. I like to use it that way, because often you do not want the new track to be added to the end.2 points

There are over three dozen major fires going in Oregon and even more than in Washington and California (not to mention the states that border these!). I think Mother Nature is punishing the West Coast (Left Coast?) for it's idiotic politics... Check out this Government Fire Map! Like Kenny, I can barely see across the street and the sun is just a little red circle in the sky! There's finally a REAL reason to wear a mask if you have to be outside... We have some clients that have already evacuated and others that are prepping (we're working to make sure they're backups are safe - I do IT consulting). Between my business partner and I, we have several friends and relatives that have evacuated. The statistic that blew me away (I'm not sure I agree with the "Worst Air Quality on the Planet one, I've seen parts of China on video!), is that 10% of the population of Oregon has been evacuated! (Over 500,000 people.) There was a rumor going around that Antifa was starting the fires (they did double in number over night), but this was primarily due to a fake social media account that got created. This rumor has been well OVER debunked with all sorts of media (including Snopes) saying it's just not true. I believed this too until I learned a few things... There was a 37-year old female from Selenas California that was arrested for starting fires (no known Antifa affiliation), then a 36-year old male from Puyallup Washington (who DID turn out to be an Antifa member), plus they were looking for a guy "with a black German Sheppard and a green SUV" who was seen starting a fire. Now, that still didn't convince me until I heard from an ex-business partner in Willamina Oregon who witnessed some youths get arrested with "incendiary devices" on them, a client who was listening to a police scanner in Molalla Oregon about police chasing four to five cars of kids throwing Molotov cocktails, and a guy who used to be on my dart team posted a video (since removed by the censorship of Facebook) showing the arrest of one of occupants in one of those cars... Now I'm not convinced there isn't a connection... Even without any organized affiliation, people that are starting fires should have all the punishment possible! There are at least four towns in Oregon (Detroit, Pace, Talent and Phoenix) that simply no longer exist! I have no idea what the death count is up to by now (more than 20), but MILLIONS of acres of land have burned (to give an idea of the scope, it's more than the entire size of Wales' 8,002 square miles!). Of course, as much as most of the population just wants to get the fires put out and then figure out how to start over, the idiotic people that somehow got elected to run things are, naturally, trying to politicize things... After repeatedly saying that the Federal government should stay out of all the "Left Coast" states, the governors are now begging for help (while complaining that it's coming too late - more "Trump's fault!" B.S.) - oh, and they're also using this as proof of Global Warming! Really???! Facts mean nothing to these people and they should all be put in a hole if you ask me. (Ah, I forgot to mention some of the mishandling of fire resources where some units were allowed to be lent to other places because they pay more and, therefore, became unavailable when they're OWN neighborhoods needed to be evacuated! Wow... I hope they get all these fires out soon with minimal more destruction and impact on people! We just had a very welcome change in the weather that should help.2 points

Some of the most common and complex problems that arise when using a DAW (digital audio workstation) are issues relating to plug-in compatibility. At Cakewalk we take plug-in compatibility problems seriously and all reported issues are investigated. It is however impossible for us to test thousands of plug-ins in Cakewalk. While we follow best practices for VST compatibility, handling plug-in's can be complex since many vendor's do not test their plug-ins in all hosts, and there can be subtle or not so subtle (crash) behavior changes across plug-ins running in different host's. Before drawing conclusions on the cause of a plug-in related fault, its important to properly collect information that can assist with diagnostics. If you encounter an issue with a plug-in here are some tips to diagnose it. Identify the kind of problem. There are a few kinds of issues: Compatibility issues. While this can be wide its important to try and isolate whether the problem appears within the plugin or the host. e.g do you notice the problem in the plug-in UI, does it occur with only certain presets, does the issue occur when loading the project or when exporting audio, etc. Crashes. This is self explanatory but its critical to observe whether the crash report indicates that the crash in within the host program or within the plug-in DLL. The crash dialog will typically list the module that the crash occurs in in the title. If a crash occurs please save the Minidump for the crash since it is the only way for developers to diagnose the issue. Hangs. In a few rare cases a plug-in can cause the host to hang. If a hang occurs you can still capture a dump file while the app is hangling, though it may be a lot larger. Project specific problems. These are cases that result in unexpected behavior only with certain project files. Diagnostics and action If the plug-in crash is listed as happening within the plug-in DLL the first course of action is to contact the vendor of the plug-in. The reason for this is in many cases the the issue is caused by the plug-in running into an unexpected operation from the DAW that can only be fixed by the plug-in vendor. Every DAW is different and unless the plug-in has been specifically tested with a DAW there is a potential for unexpected bugs being discovered. If the crash occurs in the host program (Cakewalk.exe is shown in the crash title) then one possibility is that the host ran into an unexpected condition. This should be reported to Cakewalk. It's important to note that not all crashes in the host are caused by the host. Plug-ins share the same memory space as the host program and as a result of buffer overwrites can corrupt memory, leading to random crashes or app shut-downs. In all problem cases the best way to report it is to provide the following details to all vendors concerned. Write a detailed description of the problem Include a zip file containing the project in which the problem occurs Include all minidump's if the plug-in causes a crash. Please read this for more information on how to capture a minidump In some cases Cakewalk will assist and work with the plug-in vendor to get a resolution to a problem. If you send a problem report to a third party vendor you may also refer them to contact us through our support channel at support@cakewalk.com should they have technical questions or require internal follow up with us.1 point

https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2020/09/portland-now-has-the-worst-air-quality-in-the-world-due-to-oregon-and-washington-wildfires.html Holy Smokes ! It looks like the Planet Mars outside where I live . The sky is overcast with an Orange Red Color to it . I live about 10 miles North of Portland OR in Vancouver WA . Thankfully I am not directly in the actual fire burn zone ... The air is so smoke filled and thick it is almost impossible to to breath with out straining . Forget about going outside ... I have woken up a number of times out of a deep sleep literally choking and gasping for air ( dealing w heart problems and shortness of breath before all this certainly contributes to the extreme effects of the air quality for me ) Toughing this one out has been a challenge on so many levels . Between the isolation of social distancing and all the riots in Portland OR I am convinced these are certainly some very strange times ...Yet in all honesty after taking an inventory , I know it could be far worse because I'm sitting here cozy w a full stomach , a roof over my head and a guitar or two to bang on if I happen to feel the need . ( still wish I had a dog ) My heart goes out to all the people that have had to evacuate away from their homes due to the fires . In some cases they have gone back to what they thought was home only to find they have lost every thing . Kenny1 point

First thing I would be checking is the sample rate of your project in Cakewalk. Make sure it matches the sample rate in audacity Settle on a sample rate that you would like to use and then make sure that you use that in all programs (Including Windows itself)1 point

I'm a very happy, long time Cakewalk user. In the last several years, I've scored many films using Cakewalk and it works perfectly for me. One feature that would be very helpful would be to be able to export the list of markers in a project. Often, when I'm assembling the score for a director, she/he will give me guidelines, but I'll sometimes start/stop cues at different SMPTE markers than their original notes. Once the project is complete, it would be useful to be able to export the list of markers (in a text format) so that they can use them with their editor to ensure the cues line up where they're supposed to be. This would also allow for the director to add notes to my markers if it were in a text format that they could send back to me or on to others. Thanks very much for all your hard work!1 point

I did an experiment a couple months ago that may be relevant to this discussion: The tested device was a 500GB Gen4 NVMe drive running the ATTO Benchmark in both a direct-to-CPU PCIe slot, and a switched PCIe slot. The result was a ~1-percent difference in the throughput. Link is below: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showpost.php?p=14878090&postcount=1827 Also, outside of the space requirements for the audio, it's important to keep both the overall speed capability and the user experience in view. There was a pretty careful test done to compare the sample loading performance of an NVMe drive versus a conventional SATA SSD. The differences in the loading/usage experience is far smaller than the speed difference between the two technologies. I'd like to see other tests of this kind, particularly in the context of CbB. Link is below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wL8XYGgd_O9fomMrK1EpSnZJeQwhVOAn91e82byj8s4/edit Lastly, keep in mind that 50 mono tracks at 192kHz needs less than 40MBytes/sec to playback.1 point

It is just as bad up there where you are according to the linked article and the news ...Our locations were tied up until Portland inched ahead by a smidge . Dumb assed me walked around last night for almost an hour for my exercise , I didn't realize I was so-posed to stay indoors under these type of harsh air quality conditions ....duh .... Then I went and left my patio and bed room windows cracked about 6 inches all night ...it was painful inside my apt ...I woke up a few times with my throat super dry and it felt like it had closed up on me .. I'm somewhat Lucky , my place came with central air . Today I shut all my windows and I'm running the fan section of that unit . Yeah it smells like something is smoking in here ...It ain't the barbecue ...LOL I see the displaced people on the News and their attitudes are so unbelievable ...Some have lost everything and the spirit they exhibit is still one of gratitude and hope . I'm glad to hear your OK Kenny1 point

It ain't much better here, a hundred miles north of you. It's like a foggy day, except the "fog" is brown and makes you gasp for air. We're supposed to stay indoors with the windows shut. That would be a reasonable plan during the 9 months of the year when it's cold and rainy here. But in September that can make it too hot to sleep at night. Choose between not being able to sleep because it's too hot, or because you can't breathe. Either way, it's not going to be a restful night. On the plus side, it smells like the whole world is having one giant barbecue. Except when the smell of melting plastic gets mixed in. That's pretty nasty, and you try not to think about the reason for that smell, as it's probably somebody's home and/or car on fire.1 point

The OP's video shows how you can combine two sources of monitoring Direct from the audio interface - dry signal (near zero latency) Signal processed thru DAW (in this case with reverb set 100% wet) You need the DAW processed signal to be 100% wet (no dry signal). If the reverb contained any dry signal, it would cause comb-filtering (unwanted phasing/chorusing). The signal direct from the audio interface is near zero latency. The signal processed thru the DAW is subject to ~5ms round-trip latency. Had the Reverb contained any dry signal, it would be mixing dry vocal back in... but delayed by ~5ms. By keeping the Reverb signal 100% wet, only the reverb is subject to the ~5ms round-trip latency. Dry vocal = near zero latency Reverb = ~5ms latency In real physical spaces it often takes a few ms for the reverb (ambience) to reach your ears. Thus, that ~5ms latency (in this example) wouldn't sound unnatural.1 point

@AxlBrutality I fully understand this. We have excellent relationships with many plugin vendors. Waves, NI, Celemony, Arturia and Steinberg are some big guys who come to mind but there have been numerous others who are extremely responsive when there are compatibility issues. On the other hand others make assumptions without doing the due diligence testing and debugging. Doing a test that compares a plugin in host A and inferring that host B is to blame because it doesn't work there is flawed logic. Software is far more complex than that and most competent developers would never make that assumption. Just in the 09 release I communicated with Steinberg about verified bugs in plugins state management that we have to work around. This is an ongoing problem and not something we can solve directly since none of us have any control over third party vendor timelines and policies. I can say with 100% certainty that when a vendor reports a specific compatibility issue to us we bump that to the highest priority to solve as soon as we can and work with them directly to get to the problem. The bottom line is if a plugin vendor asks you to switch DAW's without supplying evidence that it is actually a DAW issue, its really your call to decide the value proposition of whether you would rather stick with that developer or abandon your DAW. One root issue I have seen is that some plugin developers do not test on Windows systems and can be quick to dismiss plugin bugs as being host specific without actual verification. Some others regurgitate obsolete out of date information. Yes in the past we had compatibility issues but the vast majority of plugin issues have been resolved over the years. Our VST3 implementation is second to none (even by Steinberg's admission).1 point
