  1. FWIW, I wasn't trying to give a detailed comparison between ultra-low latency performance... just show that Cubase and Studio One weren't using the same audio engine. IME, If running Helix Native under circumstances I mentioned above (96k using a 32-sample ASIO buffer size), Studio One out-performs CbB. To put things into perspective: DP10 is one of the worst performers at ultra low latency Cubase 10.5 is slightly better than DP10 CbB is slightly better than Cubase Reaper is better than CbB At higher ASIO buffer sizes, performance differences tend to be less dramatic. Reaper is overall the most CPU efficient PC DAW application.

  6. Studio One Pro 4 and Cubase 10.5 absolutely do not have the same audio engine. Studio One has significantly better performance at extremely small ASIO buffer sizes. Quick/Easy test: Using Presonus Quantum as an audio interface, you can set the ASIO buffer size down to 32-samples (at 96k). That results in round-trip latency of 1ms. Load Helix Native (with a patch using 2 Cab IRs for substantial load) into both Cubase 10.5 and Studio One Pro 4. Play thru Helix Native and monitor the resultant audio in realtime (heavy load on the CPU). If you have a fast machine, Studio One Pro 4 will show heavy load... but audio will be glitch-free. Cubase will struggle to keep up with the load (without glitches).

  7. To top it off - now someone has worked with Skippy to enable this synth to work really well in Plugin Guru’s Unify. Last Saturday’s Plugin Guru Livestream went covered this new capability. Sounds nice! See page 2 of this thread for more info on the combo:

  8. The long-term answer/solution is to do the in-place upgrade to Win10 Pro. You can then insert two Registry tweaks that stop all automatic updates (including notifications).

  9. Super cool! $20 for a year of Groove3. Nothing else included in the bundles interests me at all, but that price for a year with Groove3 included is a no brainer.

  12. M-Slate is based around some of the design of my M-Blue Slate Theme but is still a whole different Theme and much easier on the eyes than Blue Slate. Free Download Here... M-Slate Cakewalk Theme A combined total of around 150 hours, sometimes much more, goes in to creating each Theme I make, then there's more time spent to update them whenever BandLab makes changes or additions to the Cakewalk GUI to ensure any changed or new items display correctly and match the Theme, I also don't make all these Themes for myself, it's more of a hobby and to share the end results with the Cakewalk Community for their use and enjoyment at no charge, Any Tips/Donations via the following link for my time and efforts in creating and updating these are greatly appreciated, however small. 13. This one was the latest theme I was making last year (2019) before specifically concentrating on easier on the eyes Themes which I've released a couple of since, so it’s bright, colorful and may be seen as garish by some but as it was mostly done I decided to finally finish and release, someone might like to use it. 18. Hi Soundwise, I used the latest version of AAS' Custom "All" Installer. Restarted the laptop and checked with CbB. I think previous forum posts noted a "memory leak" issue with some AAS plugins, which would explain the interminable loading/crashing but they are the only plugins I use that lose their GUI. Sorry, not computer literate enough to know why it should occur specifically with CbB but I imagine that is why AAS have not addressed the issue before now.

  19. Peg Winder @ Sweetwater I suppose I should say this device isn't for everyone. I actually enjoy restringing and putting slow care into an instrument, usually with a glass of single malt. However, there are times in the studio when speed is key, and this in my gig bag prevents it from getting lost (like these with a drill that grow feet: https://www.guitarcenter.com/DAddario-Planet-Waves/Drill-Bit-Peg-Winder-1342625288175.gc?source=4WWMWXGL&source=4WWRWXGL&storeCode=&gclid=CjwKCAjw_-D3BRBIEiwAjVMy7HqwFO-Ono5WvUcT0DzpiEWwRgJ7j8g17F4M-LeahtKNBI1qlPfhWRoChRgQAvD_BwE ).

  20. You could try disconnecting the drive, then running windows with it disconnected and then reconnecting the drive, see what it does. If the DVD is too old, could get a new DVD drive or if it's a laptop, get an external one, they are pretty cheap. To get out from where you are now, you could use the windows 10 disc/USB (if your computer can boot from USB), change the boot sequence in BIOS to DVD/USB and then boot from that and when it starts select the recovery/repair. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/boot-or-repair-windows-10-using-the-installation-media Or the various ways to do a reinstall, there is an option to completely reinstall windows but keep all your stuff: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4000735/windows-10-reinstall You probably just need to do a repair and then upgrade the DVD burner.

  23. @garybrun Some of your UA compressors could be updated to the latest (non-legacy) versions. If I'm reading your list correctly, the Fairchild and 1176s are the "legacy" versions. UA's "Analog Classics Pro Bundle" has the latest versions those compressors. The bundle includes other plugins which you already have the latest versions. However, UA usually discounts packages based on what you already own. There are also separate 'Fairchild' and '1176 Collections'. I remember getting a discount on those collections because I owned the "legacy" versions. But, that was a few years ago. The non-legacy Fairchild 670 plugin has two very useful features: 1.) Mix control for parallel compression; 2.) Adjustable Side-chain Filter which adjusts how the low-end triggers the compression. Then again, you could wait for the usual end-of-year sale!

  26. I have had a similar experience. AAS plugins seem troubled by Windows updates (who isn't?) and how they interact with CbB. There is a thread somewhere on the forum about this issue. I re-installed all my AAS plugs, which seems to work...

  27. I have the joy of now dealing with both. So far MS has not destroyed anything major for me. I have lost access to my (more conveniently located) external USB3 CD/DVD writer a while back, but TBH I burn so few that it's not anything major (like that song you were learning Kenny).

  29. The only way to really turn updates off is to disable the network!!! And that gets more and more impossible with all those software providers that really don't support real offline installation! So in fact those software providers (no names) cause such issues! ? I don't wanna total all the hours that I have spent/lost to fix such Microsoft update problems. And each time when I look at the changes protocol of MS I get angry, because there is almost nothing that I really wanted! Just annoyance for nothing at all! I hate MS (but Apple is surely no alternative)!

  31. They send you a box with a booklet with a code in it. You enter the code on their website and you'll get all the codes pop up for the products. There you'd find the Groove3 code. I tend to buy these bundles when they come up as well specifically for the groove3 codes, too.

  40. I recommend checking out Brian Eno's OBLIQUE STRATEGIES quotes... Originally released as a deck of cards with 500 quotes, these have grown and been updated. I've put them into a text file that you can conveniently use to replace the stock built in ones in Cakewalk. (We added affirmations to the startup toast notifications last year) To check these out, simply copy the attached ProjectOpenNotification.txt file to this folder: %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core Just type that path into the Windows search bar and it should take you to that folder. Then save the attached text file to that folder. This will override the default built in notifications. You should get a sometimes cryptic but always thoughtful random oblique quote the next time you open a project file. (assuming that you have notifications enabled in preferences | customization | display) You can even add your own quotes to that list or make up your own list of creativity tips. I've had these on for a long time now and they never fail to entertain or inspire. YMMV PS: The original Oblique Strategies deck is still available from Brian's website. ProjectOpenNotification.txt
