Hey guys,  I was working on a mix today, and usually in my mixes I have  2 aux tracks.  One is called STATIC MIX  and the other is called F. MIX.   I've done this for a long time now, at least since sonars had aux tracks, so I wanna say since X3 or so...  I've never had issues with this, but today I tried to record the static mix, and it plays back just fine, but when I hit record, everything plays and records back staggered.  I can't make heads or tails of it, so I'm asking here, maybe someone's run into this before.

EDIT UPDATE: Turns out it was Sound Radix's Pi causing this issue.  I've used for ages, and have never had that happen before, but for whatever reason, it started acting up on me.  I'll just have to check and align phase the old way.  Anyhow, thanks to @mettelus and @Bristol_Jonesey for trying to help me out.

Not quite sure what "staggered" means, but it could be active plugins with a look-ahead buffer somewhere in the project. If you are still running tracking buffers, you could try bumping those up to see if that helps. Even Melodyne (as an FX) recommends a pretty massive buffer (like 2048) to function properly if actively running in a project.

Staggered as in everything plays off time, some tracks play on time, others come in late. But it only happens when I hit record.  If I just play it, it plays normally. Also, I have my buffer already at 2048, that's where I set it for mixing. Lastly, not a single plugin is turned on, cause it's just the static mix, so only volume and panning has been set, nothing else.  Thanks for replying, I really appreciate the help

Try lowering your buffer when recording. Raise it again when mixing or playing

Hey Jonesey, I'll give it a shot.  I threw up my hands last night and decided to try again today, I'll keep you posted, thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. There is a note about the global lookahead buffer in the Release Notes (2012-12-31, near the bottom), and it seems the buffer can be accessed locally (not sure if that will help though):

****

"GLOBAL LOOKAHEAD BUFFER

Allows the use of larger audio buffers and other high latency plug-ins. If Pi doesn't get all the samples it needs in time due to a larger audio buffer or other high latency plug-in, it can't do its magic and it'll displays Sync Errors. If you're getting Sync Errors messages, Increase the lookahead buffer until they're gone.

Click on the Sound Radix logo to open the About screen and access this setting."

****

Another side note is that disabling FX in the FX bin does not free up the processing power they use (they are still running), which is why you can turn FX on/off with the transport playing. This can be problematic with tracking/recording in late stages depending on which plugins are being used.

I tried the lookahead settings, it just made it worse.  The larger the buffer, the more the stagger was apparent.  When I went smaller it got better, but Pi only allows you to go down to 150 on the internal buffer, no shorter than that.  It is what it is, I can't use it for this mix is all, but thanks again for trying to help, I really did appreciate the effort.
