Kurt Barkdull
I'm using bandlab sonar and selected midi notes in piano roll dont change appearance or color to show what you've highlighted as they used to in older versions. Is their a setting that will work? Thanks in advance.
Colin Nicholls
I don't see this in Cakewalk Sonar. The behavior appears to be unchanged from Sonar Platinum, or Cakewalk by Bandlab. I'm not sure that I've selected any unusual settings here - I'm using the Tungsten theme for what it is worth. You might need to post a short video or something to demonstrate the issue. This issue has been discussed quite a few times in this forum and the answer turned out to be that if you use your keyboard as a control surface, no keys will be highlighted in the PRV. The only workaround is if you've got a keyboard with both a USB and a traditional MIDI DIN connection. Then you can use one of those as the In Port to your control surface in Preferences. Of course, you'd also need a traditional MIDI input on your audio interface. That setup works for me. The OP is saying the note 'blobs' aren't getting highlighted when selected - unrelated to keyboard animation. 15 hours ago, Kurt Barkdull said: selected midi notes in piano roll dont change appearance or color to show what you've highlighted Sounds to me like the notes aren't actually getting selected, possibly due to the clip being locked. It makes no difference for me whether the clip is locked (data or position). I can still select the notes with the right-click lasso or swiping in the track view; notes get highlighted (actually turn white) in the PRV. So I don't think that is it. Lasso and swiping in the timeline/keyboard also work to highlight in the PRV, but not left-clicking on notes. The Smart tool doesn't register that there's a note under it (no change in pointer) when Clip Data is locked.
Colin Nicholls
Yeah I see the Smart tool won't recognize it is hovering over a note when the clip is locked. But the Select tool or any other method of note selection works. @Kurt Barkdull, what methods are you using to select notes? Could your clips be locked as @David Baay suggests? I guess tha makes select by left-click with the Smart tool the exception among all the methods, and maybe clip-locking is not what's going on in the OP's case. It was just the only thing that came to mind.
sjoens
I wonder if the theme OP is using would play a factor in this. Edited yesterday at 01:43 AM by sjoens
Kurt Barkdull Posted yesterday at 01:13 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 01:13 AM Thanks guys for all the input. Attached photo showing piano roll. I can select notes and everything works. Only thing is the notes dont change color. For the past 20 years all Cakewalk I've used including bandlab cakewalk always changed colors of blobs when highlighted. Since upgrading to free bandlab sonar they wont change color or shade to show you whats selected.
Kurt Barkdull Posted yesterday at 01:20 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 01:20 AM you mentioned clip lock and when I right click on the track I want in piano roll and view clip lock here's what shows. not seeing anything saying locked or unlocked. I must be missing something or misunderstanding
sjoens Posted yesterday at 02:08 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:08 AM (edited) They do change. Your track colors are almost white. Selected notes are white (normally). So your selected notes don't appear to change but they do. Try changing track colors and see what happens. Colin Nicholls Posted yesterday at 02:14 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:14 AM "Any color you like... so long as its white" Yeah try selecting a blue color for the track, and you'll see the selected notes turn white (instead of blue)
sjoens Posted yesterday at 02:18 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:18 AM Never underestimate the power of a good screenshot. Unlikely this would be solved here without one.

Kurt Barkdull Posted yesterday at 03:09 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:09 AM Here's another one for ya. When I have a track selected and open event list there is no way to select just the volume. You can see that the volumes are there and are all 50. In event manager there is no volume to highlight . Also above the 50's you can see there is no header saying volume?

Volume Automation will show up in the Event Inspector as (Kind) Shape, and volume drawn in the piano roll controller view will show as (Kind) Control 7 (CC #7 is Volume). The volumes you see in your image are individual volumes for each note event.
Kurt Barkdull Posted yesterday at 03:39 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:39 AM actually wasnt looking for volume automation. I just want to see all the 50's and no other events. There use to be a volume option in piano roll to select just the volume column for the notes.
Chaps Posted yesterday at 03:49 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:49 AM Well, the volume column for the note is unlabeled and part of the Data field for the notes. I am unaware of any method to see only the note volumes and not the notes. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't really see how useful it would be to see the volumes of the notes but not the notes they are associated with. Anyway, it is what it is. sjoens Posted yesterday at 04:49 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:49 AM (edited) It's actually "Velocity", but in the Event Manager, Notes is your only option and includes all the basic data including velocity, so there's no way to isolate it from the rest. Makes sense because showing just velocity with no associated notes would be confusing - at least for me. Been like this since at least SONAR 8. Same with the missing labels for Velocity and MBT columns. . . please fix. Edited yesterday at 04:55 AM by sjoens
