mark skinner Posted September 28 Posted September 28 (edited) Hello , here's a new instrumental I'm finishing up. It's pretty sparce with drums , bass , stereo acoustic and electric guitar thru Bias FX2. I'm wondering about the low end in this and if you think there may be room for a few organ or piano fills in a few spots. Thanks for the listen , any crits or suggestions for improvement. mark https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=15117093 Edited October 1 by mark skinner remix 5
DeeringAmps Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Listening on cans in the office so reluctant to comment on the low end. Doing a little work on the video monitors in the studio or I would take the wav out to studio... As always, much enjoyed the listen. 👍's 👏 t 1
PJH Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I listened in the studio and honestly I can't find anything to add. It sounds really good Mark. I love it. Great guitar playing! Well done! 1
noynekker Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Hi Mark, no "riff raff" here . . . another masterfully conceived groove ! It's mostly about the guitars in your mix. as it should be . . . but show the bass player some love . . . oh, wait, that may be you too ? That's just my way of saying, my personal preference is to hear more bottom of the bass guitar . . . even though it's more an upper funk bass, instead of a low driving rock / country bass. It's also possible, I'm just wanting to hear more lows in the kick drum ? I realize it's a delicate balance, and you don't want to mud up those great guitars, perhaps that's why you mixed it this way. 2 cents from Bruce 1
SuperFreq Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Tight guitar playing! Great song. Ever heard of a maestro named Stuart Adamson? Your acoustic work reminds me of that ("The Storm" acoustic version, "Shattered Cross", etc). 1
mark skinner Posted October 2 Author Posted October 2 @DeeringAmps , Thanks Tom , I always appreciate the listen and your imput/ @PJH , Thanks Peter. Your Excptional work with melody lines inspires me . I have'nt found your secret for finding them though. I muted some tracks and hunted for some basic melody fills using a piano. It feels more complete to me now . Thanks .. ms @noynekker , Thanks Bruce , I've done a remix and put some bottom end back in. This one really gave me problems after boosting the levels. It kept thinning out and enhancing the reverb levels. I had to really pay attention to the mix before I started mastering. I Really appreciate the suggestion. 👍 @SuperFreq , Thank You for the listen and comment. No I havn't heard of Stuart Adamson. I will for sure look him up. The link now reflects a remix with added piano. I'll probably play around with it some more untill I'm satisfied. I'm not much of a piano player , but it felt pretty easy and I Really enjoyed doing it. Thanks .. mark 1
T Boog Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Outstanding Mark. The groove is super funky and the drop D vibe acoustic makes it sound down & dirty. It kinda reminds me of Days of the New. Which is a big compliment coming from me cause f**king love Days of the New 😁 Well done 👏 1
Ross S Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Outstanding work here Mark! Great playing, tight grove, spacious and clear mix. 1
