Megan CM
Hey everyone, I've done absolutely everything I can think of, and I still can't get a signal from my mic into Sonar. I have a Mackie Onyx Producer 2.2, using a condenser mic via XLR. I've updated the driver for the audio interface, I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times restarted my laptop, everything - I still can't get a signal. What am I doing wrong here? I'm pretty sure my settings are good. Sound comes out of my monitors no problem, but can't figure out the input issues. I had my gear set up well over a year ago and didn't have a problem, but took a hiatus and have since decided to get back into recording. I bever had any issues when I did the initial setup. Any info or help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Meg
matt
Did you press the phantom power button on the Mackie (+48V)?
David Baay
Are you not able to record to an armed audio track, or is it just that you don't hear live output because neither the Mackie's direct monitoring mode or the Sonar track's Input Echo are engaged? You need to have one of the other - but not both - enabled in order to hear yourself in real time (since you're recording from a mic, I presume you're monitoring output from the Mackie via headphones...?). For monitoring your own performance while recording, you'll want to be using direct monitoring because 27ms of latency at 512-sample buffer is going to be to much for input monitoring The windows audio settings are only relevant to Windows sounds and generic multimedia players and browsers that use it; Sonar is going to be using the interface driver directly via its ASIO driver so the Windows audio setup doesn't matter, but you might do better to assign your onboard audio (e.g. Realtek) as the default I/O device for Windows, leaving the Mackie dedicated to Sonar so there's no chance of a conflict. Noel Borthwick
Your settings in Sonar look fine. Did you try arming the track and recording? If you get no signal recorded into the track, then the problem is "out of the box". Obviously check if playback is working in Sonar through the Onyx output first. The first place I would check is the Mackie ASIO control panel (driver settings) and not the Windows sound settings that you are showing since that isn't relevant to ASIO mode in Sonar. Check if you are getting signal from the mic in the Volume / Input Volume tab. If it's a condenser mic you need to power the mic as well.
57Gregy
Also, do you have the Mackie selected as the input to the track?
mettelus
Another quick thing to check is that Input Echo (speaker icon) is enabled on the track if not actually recording. If track routing and phantom power are on, Input Echo may also be tripping you up.
Bass Guitar
First step is plug in your headphones to the interface and listen for your signal from the Mike. If there’s no sound there then you need to troubleshoot your cable. as well as that 48 volt power is on. Hopefully you have followed the instructions provided in the user guide to use the mix control to balance your mikes input with your Daw playback. Get that set up first and then move on to your computer. 2
